Fzero GX vs. Soul Calibur 2

They were born on the same day and they're both great, but there can be only one..............

Which do you think is the better game and why? I personally have to say FZero GX because this game is just rocking my world relentlessly. I never expected anything like this from the game, it's blown away all my expectations (and I'm an Fzero fan). Soul Calibur 2 is lots of fun but every time I play it feels like I'm playing a port of what I was playing Christmas 99'.

I haven't put my finger on it yet, but there's just something special about Fzero GX that I haven't felt from a game in a LONG time. The game sucks me in, beats me up with it's unrelenting difficulty, and yet not even a faint spark of frustration results. Unbelievable. Fortunately I own both games so I don't have to make the cruel choice with my wallet, but if I did......sorry SC2 but the soul doesn't burn anymore, it hauls ass at 1500 mph with goofy homemade decals pasted on it.

Bahn: I agree it's apples and oranges, but 50 bucks is 50 bucks and how often do Nintendo consoles get 2 games like this on the same day?

yeah, um...if i could only choose one, i'd just flip a coin. they're just way too different to be able to pick one over the other and be okay with it.

What a dilemma...I dunno what to get today (have $$ to buy only one game this afternoon)

Klonoa: here are the key questions A) Do you have friends that will play tons of Soul Calibur 2 with you? B) Did you play the hell out of Soul Calibur 1 to the point where you are burnt out on it? C) Do you like racing games?

FZero GX is the greatest racing game ever made with a fantastic 1 player mode, tons of replay value, as well as a great multiplayer mode. Soul Calibur 2 is Soul Calibur 1.5, with slightly improved graphics and sound, Link, and a mission mode similar to SC1's only this time you unlock variations on weapons for each character as well as characters and arenas. They're both great, but I'd say if you've played a lot of Soul Calibur 1 and have interest in Fzero then get Fzero immediately, it's first priority. It will blow you away and dominate your life. Soul Calibur 2 will give you pangs of regret over where your 50 bucks went if it prevented you from buying Fzero.

I've been having fun with FZero so far, but greatest racing game ever? I'm beginning to think people put too much stock in a game as a default if it has the Sega name flash across the screen...

I played SC2 in the arcade.

I didn't play F-Zero in the arcade.

I bought F-Zero on release day.

I'll buy SC2 in a few weeks.

Actually, I think I'm going to buy Ikaruga since the local stores seem to have finally gotten it in stock.

But given the choices, I WOULD have said Soul Calibur 2 yesterday. SpoDaddy and Kidnemo make a strong argument in favor of FZero though, I think I'd have to rent that first and see if I like it as much as everyone else seems to.

After playing the Soul Calibur 2 demo yesterday, I just came away feeling like "This is EXACTLY like Soul Calibur 1" which in and of itself isn't bad, but I just don't know how long it will hold my interest since I played SC1 so much a while back I got completely burned out on it.

Why do you even bother to make these threads if you're so absolutely biased in the first place? I think you just got proven wrong in your "Is SC2 the sequel it should be" thread, so you need to set up some other thread to prove its inferiority. -even when the setup is totally without merit.

"FZero GX is the greatest racing game ever made"? -Wow, that's objective. I like how a valid strategy is just to swerve back and forth, because the wonky physics engine will reward that with acceleration. The game is based more on twitch reflexes than mastery of your vehicles handling properties, which can be cool, but certainly doesn't appeal to everyone. For my money, no one has beat the physics and feel of the Wipeout series
