Every three seconds my mouse/entire computer will freeze for about five seconds.
Yeah... this is quite annoying. Any ideas why?
Also... I have four svchost.exe running processes. Is this normal?

Hmm, I had something simular happening about 2 weeks ago. I checked for viruses but found none, and then my mouse stoped working. I replaced my mouse and havent had this problem again.
Try to run your pc with different mouse and see it the problem continues.
The optical mouse light stays on when it happens, and my laptop mouse thing doesn't work either.
Its quite annoying.
I can only think of three things that might make it do that.
1. Your hard drive is teh gay and needs to be defragmented or something.
2. Some retarded process is using up outrageous amounts of resources.
3. Your OS is fucked and needs to be reformatted.
Four svchost.exe sounds pretty normal. How many internet applications you got open?
Two.
Also, using BT seems to start the problems.
BT is a resource hog and could very well be the cause of the problem. I assume you are using the latest version?
4 svchost.exe for two applications eh? Hmmm, sounds suspicious unless your using AIM. I'd update windows if I were you if you haven't already.
I also had a problem that had slightly to do with a svchost.exe. Long story short, it was the Blaster virus.
Do you have msblast.exe as a running process?
I'm not that dumb... :)Quote:

OK. Its not the mouse.
This happens whether I am using my built in laptop mouse pad thing, my microsoft mouse, or my logitech mouse.
Its not the mouse, as the entire PC freezes up. The mouse freezing is just part of it.
Once again... its not the mouse.
P.S. Did I mention that it is not the mouse?
you sure its not the mouse? :)
which anti-virus are you running? make sure its current and hasnt been screwed with by any virus.
try trend micro's online scan...
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
if it isnt a virus, Id reinstall windows, its the ultimate cure all..
that's about what I'd do, just save some of your shit you'll need to another harddrive or something and start over from there.
88, some possible scenarios which have not been mentioned:
Your computer may be trying to resolve an IP constantly or is getting a renewed IP from the DHCP server constantly if you're on a high speed connection. Try disconnecting network cables/modem.
Boot into Safe Mode (press F8 at Windows boot screen) and see if it freezes there. If it doesn't, it could be a driver issue or a program eating up all of your resources.
If you can get ahold of Norton Systemworks for your PC, run WinDoctor and fix everything.
Not all running processes are shown in the task monitor. You mentioned svchost.exe, so you're either in 2000 or XP. Right-click on your computer and select "Manage...". Actually, I think I posted something similar to this in this thread. See what services your machine is running and how many depend on svchost.exe.
Finally, try Housecall by Trend Micro. Online web scan, might take a while with the freezing and all.
{stupid}Oh yeah, try a different mouse.{/stupid}
Hope those help.
