I'm writing. Fuck it, why not?
Sounds like its time to punch a dork in the face! Whooo-hooo!
I'm definitely the minority, but I really like Play. I like the fact that I'm getting, while overly optimistic, actual enthusiast opinions on games/media instead of some washed up skater-punk who is doing nothing but glorify a trend instead of giving props for merits.
I like it a lot despite it's flaws. The magazine has nowhere to go but better, and after seeing Game Players, Game Fan, GR and Next Gen die, I'm not too keen on seeing another great magazine go away.

Hey, that's sort of like when EC....Quote:

No, I shall be quiet now.

Halverson never treated me wrong in the GameFan days, so I have no qualms with the man.
But I did think some of the stuff in his JSRF review was not necessary. Example A: "Gum has round boobs, panties, detailed blinking eyes, and looks as smooth as a baby's butt."
WTF ??

Christ man, i try not to remember. Lets just say he seems to be the Mikey of the new millenium. "Davey likes it, Davey likes it"Quote:

And that, my friends, is why I do not read "Play".Quote:

"We drew straws to see who'd get the honor of reviewing Smashing Drive and, well, nuff said. It's hot-potato status is do to the fact that we all respect the Namco name so much. Placed on a pedestal with the likes of Konami and Capcom. It's hard to believe it's their name on the box. It's like they lost a bet or something. In a nutshell: N64 graphics at 60- frames, gameplay that makes SF Rush seem almost desireable. and a soundtrack so preposterous I forgot the Mazda zoom-zoom jingle for almost a full minute."
1/5 Dave Halverson
Serious from the mag. I couldn't mke this up.
Agreed.Quote:
Yeah, SD ain't great fun for everyone as it is for some of the folks round here, but it certainly warrants at least a 2 or 3 star rating. 1 star... fucking ludicrous. Good money says he didn't spend but two minutes with the damn thing.
I like you, Bebop Lover. Really. You were one of GR's most vocal supporters (and later, spurned fan). As apathetic as I am about Dave Halverson, don't send the email unless you really need some cathartic-like closure to the whole GR/GR Online fiasco. Seriously. He won't read it. He doesn't even care. Love or hate old' Halverson, the man's moved on. He's got a family to support and is going to do whatever it takes to succeed in whatever endeavor he pursues to sustain that family. I don't like the fact that Dave does the lions' share of all the writing either, but, you know what? It's his mag? Many of us old GR guys were a little resentful about what happened to us and to the fans regarding the magazine and online. However, at the end of the day, the world righted itself. Steve Thomason works for Versus Books now. Chris Hoffman works for old Vic Ireland at Working Designs. Tom Stratton works for Nintendo. "Pooch" became a helluva stand-up comedian here in Cali. Me? I'm all over the place.
I guess what I'm saying is, well, the magazine is doing well and has it's niche. Love it or hate it, it's doing something right. Mike Hobbs writes more than you think for PLAY under various amusing psuedonyms, and you've got to admit that his design on that magazine is sexy as hell. And Brady? Well, Brady's going to be A-Okay. Just watch. He may surprise we gamers soon.
Don't send that email. Would you know what I'd honestly *love* to see you do? Send a submission for the magazine. You're a helluva writer with *quite* the following. You, Verbal, Bahn...all of you guys have skillz and ambition. Don't waste your time sending that email. It won't stir the waters. Dave's still going to do his Access Hollywood thing. His CNN thing. His PLAY thing. You want to rock the boat? Try this: Make your mark in this crazy gaming thing. The dot.com board members aren't pulling the strings anymore. It's all about fan love again. There's too much money involved, and not enough passion. Fuck it. Do it. You're too damned talented. I troll these boards *EVERY DAY*. I know. Good luck.

damn so e.storm pulled the same shit with GR as he did with GF.
nice first post Shola :)
He ACTUALLY SAID THIS? In public? Pardon my French, but what a freaking cock.Quote:
