can't we just have 1 thread for all this stuff?
Hey Kenshin, where'd you get that shirt? That's awesome.
SC
I *WISH* I had that shirt...
I saw it in NYC, and later found it online. But, sadly, I don't have it.
You see this shirt around Toronto alot:

Montréal aussi. It's very common.
The first one you posted is better though.
I think the fact that we messed up royally in Iraq and are continuing to waste taxpayer dollars trying to get things under control and catch our mysterious attackers hinders the War on Terrorism more than criticism of Bush does. Bush has been criticized from day one of his term.
Looking back on this, I think spending some more time thinking our plans over would have been the prudent thing to do - as long as inspectors were there, a chance of Hussein using any of those hidden WMD's was low. At the time it seemed like getting Hussein out of there before any real damage was done was the correct path. I mean, it wouldn't have taken much to assess the propensity for the looting and whatnot. We sort of toppled the Hussein regime and then stood scratching our heads for a few days before reinstating the Iraqi police.
A pretty slipshod job. The Iraqis definitely needed to be free of Hussein, but now they're basically at our mercy to keep the peace and keep other dictators from rising.
Basically, we tore down an apartment complex because we knew the tenants hated their living conditions; but once we got the building down we realized that we had no idea where to go from there and no plans to house the tenants temporarily.
The fact that the American leadership lied to get us there is irrelevant - this needed to be done. However, now we see that we needed help and advice in addition to the approval from the rest of the world. At least now our manifest destiny is on hold.
Good to see you back, Almaci, you old commie. ;)
Here comes the spin. I wouldn't have expected this coming from Calliander, but it seems everything is in surprise mode lately.Quote:

"messed up royally" is an awful ignorant way to put it, don't you think? We could have/should have planned better for the rebuilding phase, but to state that it's been nothing but messing up is just liberal spin. The schools are functioning, hospitals functioning, water/electricity largely functioning, local government functioning. We accepted armistace with North Korea so they wouldn't attack South Korea, and we look pretty positively on that, but kick a despot out and it's "messing up royally"?
This idea of an immediate win/exit is bull. We cannot allow another post-WWI Germany. We have to stick it out, we have to rebuild, and we're going to be there for a while.
I agree that we should have thought more about reconstruction. I think that we overestimated the amount of assistance we'd get and underestimated the amount of resistance from terrorists.Quote:

I don't even know where to begin with this. You're saying, "Yeah, it's good to have a murderous tyrant out of there, but..." It's like saying, "Wow, it sure is good to have the Nazi regime defeated, but now those Germans are at our mercy to keep the peace and keep other dictators from rising!"Quote:

The problem here is this: you're saying that these people had deplorable living conditions beforehand and now ... they have deplorable living conditions! Well, what's worse? A man killing them and threatening them, or people who're giving them food and water, and trying to help them own their country? Not a hard choice.Quote:

I would sincerely watch such language. A promise or word given today, is a promise or word that can be redeemed tomorrow. We've not found weapons yet and we may not find them for a while, but I'm quite confident that we will, and at such a point, you will have to eat those words.Quote:

We've got a history of it?Quote:
