No offense taken. :)

But I think you're confusing what I meant. I am all for world unity and the prosperity of human beings in general. However at the same time I don't want everything to be like it is in the U.S. There has been too much deculturization thanks to the U.S. If our government is going to be the pinnacle of a world political community then I don't want any part of it because I don't feel that our government is doing things the way it should be. And as a liberal I hope you can understand that.
I do understand that, and I also worry about it, to some extent. That's why you'll constantly see the two words "manifest" and "destiny" come from me a lot and you'll see that I make sure to say that "we" means "the world", not just the U.S.

We had a world political body that functioned relatively well until political and commercial interests circumvented the idea of actually helping people. Yes, I'm talking about the U.N. It's unfair that countries like the U.S. hold so much power over everyone else that we feel our ideas are more important and valid than anyone else's.
True. I like the U.N. Always have. They're not really "the gov'ment", but it is very close to a united world force. What Bush did hurt them severely, but we're going to have to concede at some point to allow them to help us, which will put them right back where they were. :)

In my opinion, that's dumb, to want to live in squalor so that Bush can invade some country. Just my opinion.
I probably should have elaborated on that one. I wouldn't care if I lived in the U.S., the U.K., Italy, France, wherever. It's not so that we can invade, just so that the world can help out.
You know, I was just thinking - we gave Hussein that ultimatum to leave Iraq or war. He probably did leave, didn't he? So technically, he fulfilled the ultimatum. ;) Just a little joke to lighten the mood.

And with those programs and such that you mentioned, aren't you helping people that way too? Or is it just people outside the U.S. who you want to help? So take it easy, I didn't mean to offend you. :D
Both. I know it's tough, but like I was saying: I've lived my life pretty much in splendor. I don't mind a little squalor so that someone who has been living a crappy life can have a chance to pick things up.

Good post. But look at it this way: Right now, Iraq is the most ideal place for terrorists to be to strike at us. We have a large bulk of our army there and undermining our efforts helps 1) further their cause AND 2) make us look bad on the world front. I know your opinion is that the Iraqi people are solely resonsible (and it's likely that some are), but give my suggestion some thought.

1. There are no wmds there, you were lied to, but that doesnt seem to bother you. Bush said there could be a nuclear cloud in NYC if we didnt invade immediately, this is not a game Mr.Bush, how about a little discretion next time.
WMDs haven't been found yet. Much like the weapons inspectors, if they were there to begin with, difficulty in locating them is being experienced. Personally, I think there probably were WMDs there and I think they were probably moved somewhere or hidden extremely well.

2. The US foreign policy is dictated by self interest, money and power, not liberating the 3rd world, you again were lied to again.
You won't hear me argue against our leaders not believing in their stated convictions, but that's just me.

3. Who are we to dictate what a totally foreign culture needs by our lofty standards?
So totally foreign cultures need to have oppressive dictators who mercilessly kill them for trivial issues? Totally foreign cultures don't need to have free people who can speak for themselves without fear of retribution? Totally foreign cultures don't need a supportive environment for their children to grow up in? Those are lofty standards?

4. Were is this 87 billion going to come from??? The middle class, you and I. Bush seems to believe money grows on trees, seeing as he is a spoiled little rich boy, I cant blame him personally. Cheney is also on record saying that the oil in Iraq is not going to fund the rebuilding and that the 87 billlion is just a down payment, again where is this money coming from Carter???
Another point you won't hear me argue about. WOO CLASS WARFARE! BOO YAH!

5. Why are we there, no one seems to know, so why should I let Bush take this money out of my pockets. Once agian we have been repeatedly lied to and our soldiers are dying for what????
We are there now to clean up the mess we made. Our soldiers are dieing to protect the good people of Iraq. Does it matter if it's the good people of Iraq or the good people of Ireland as long as they're good people? Do you want us to leave Iraq, half-finished and poverty-stricken?

6. Was Saddam a terrible man, yes, does that justify the killing of average iraqi citizens who happened to get in the way of our dislike for Saddam, no. If that were the case we would be obligated to invade half of the world.
Is inaction justified when innocent people are being oppressed and killed by a madman? Yes, we are obliged. Not to "invade" half of the world, but to HELP.
Do you live in Australia? There's got to be a better news source than that. I doubt that article was in the Washington Post.
