Fuck. What a lovely start of the day and a present for my upcoming birthday.

Now its all back to drawing boards for me. No more games or dvds.

And the job situation around these parts is not all that great.

Its shit like this pisses me off, they keep hiring all those "sales" people, who dont do shit for you. I couldnt really go around trying to find my own clients, and those fuckers werent doing anything, plus they were making probably twice what I was anyway :(

4.5 years and here I am. Back to the interviews now.

At least now I will have all time in the day. Ha-Ha :curse:

Come on Despair, we'll help you get back on your feet, you can always go to a temp agency (they really do work if they are the right one, I recommend John Leonard), or toughing it out with two crappy X-mas jobs. If money is an issue right now my man, especially for despair junior, I will say this completely and utterly without humor. Paper route.

Find your local paper office, apply for a job (if you have a car they will take you), most routes let you solicit for tips, have a base pay of 170+, and your car become entirely tax deductable.

And they are always looking for help. The xmas season tends to tip very very well (the guy who did one of the one's here pulled in 4000 dollars in the month of december).

These are just suggestions friend, but if you take any of em I suggest that one for now, and it free's up your day to look for jobs.

Kidnemo, I was consultant/programmer. Working with MS Access, MS SQL Server, VB and VBA. Before that I was also doing AS/400 RPG4 programming, but I havent done it in 2 years, and have no desire to go back to it anyway.

I am still going to get paid till the end of this week, plus the vacation days I had left. But thats pretty much it, but I can apply for unemployment, and that should help till I find a new job.

Now, I need to find a good way to break the news to my wife. She not going to be happy, thats for sure.

My friend lost his job late last Fall, and still havent found anything. We spoke to him about a week ago, and now it hit me. He is in networking, but I hope that I wont get stuck like that.

that sucks man, i know how that feels from other people's experiences (namely, my dad and tracer) - things will pick up for ya.

You familar with doing any of the webside of things?

Sorry to hear about the job situation Despair.I dont know ya personally but us videogamers are a dedicated and hardworking bunch and I'm sure the same is true about you, so I doubt you'll stay jobless for long.Just stay on those interviews and maybe give that paper route thing YAWA mentioned a try, which doesnt sound too bad ...

Also I know if you live in the Vegas area they are hard-up and looking for school teachers of any type, not sure of experience requirements, but Ive heard they are taking pretty much anyone -- and I'm sure I remember somebody here posting about this a while back...

I was laid off about 2 and a half years ago from a programming job, and it took me about 6 months to land a new gig. I actually had an offer or two, but I would have had to move, which I wasn't ready for.

I was lucky in that for the last 3 months of the time, I scored a contract job with a company I used to work for.

Monster.com was actually my best friend at the time. I received a lot of calls from people who were interested, but again, I wasn't ready to move. You might want to set up an account there. You have to keep your stuff updated (I made changes every day, just to keep my name high on the list of recently updated profiles)

Where do you live? It sounds like you have good experience, which is what a lot of people prefer now (compared to the dot com time anyway)

Actually, something similar happened to me in the beginning of the summer- my company was doing layoffs, and I was let go, but another department in the company heard about it and hired me on the. The really cool part is that I like working in the department more, and I actually make a little more money here, too. I'm sorry things didn't work out so well for you... :(

sucks man. i know in my area jobs are really hard to come by. scratch that. they either want to pay you shit but give you full time, or pay decent but offer no benefits/hours. atm im working part time (24hr week) at a medical lab getting $10 an hour imaging the req's (7-11). but i'd be hard pressed to find another job to fit in that 9-5 spot. been trying since i graduated in december. and if you DO try monster....stay away from the boards. nothing but horror sob stories there.
