Yes you heard right. She is only 1 of 20 in the state. She's looking for help....she is in a financial bind, and really can't afford a good lawyer. Anyone have any good ideas?

Stop downloading music.
How much is the lawsuit for?
She wasnt neccesarily downloading ANY music.
Well, don't do whatever she was doing wrong.
It wasn't her who was downloading it, it was her son. Though her name is on the internet bill, so shes the one getting charged. I'm not quite sure how much it is, but she said the minimum fine is $750 per copywrite violation, and they claim he had 900 some files shared.
Join the russian mafia and have all the RIAA members assasinated.
There should be some lawyers she can speak to (for free) and shopping around would help if she looks for one with a good record in this area. My best bet would be to check with the EFF as they are handling cases like this.
Really sad to hear she's going through this. If I were in her shoes, I'd have all my stuff packed up someplace where they couldn't touch anything because she'll need it safe from any collection agents trying to profit from all she has.
what about the amnesty program that has been mentioned?
is this not an option for the 261 users named?
only for those NOT YET SUED...so its retarded.
Heh...and if she only has 900 files shared...damn, I figured they were going after the bigger fish.
*edit* from yahoo!:
The amnesty would not apply to anyone the RIAA already has subpoenaed for information regarding file swapping.
Reasonable doubt is all she needs to avoid the fine IIRC. Just go into court and say my sin did it. He's a minor so they wouldn't dare touch him.
