It's not so much about what it makes them look like, it's about what the public will do. They are within their rights to file such lawsuits. It's a good tactic. People are ruled by their fear ;p

I should push for a new "public review law" that states any new laws passed by congress must also in part be looked over by the national majority of citizens for further ok to be officially included with our laws and state of affairs, rather then let more rules that violate our amendments slip in before anybody can do anything about it.

So exactly what does it take to remove some of these laws? 100,000 signatures?

That's what this is. The RIAA is making indescriminate 'examples' of people. Voltz's reaction is the kind they're hopeing for on the large scale. Personally, I don't frequently use p2p programs and will not because I'm too busy to be an MP3 martyr.

They're also kind of people that are refusing to buy their CDs. :\

Also, that 12-year old got enough donations to pay off her fine, plus she made a profit. Not exactly the kind of deal the big 5 were hoping for. :D

Good for her, the money goes to the RIAA in anycase even though they likely found evidence against her illegally and she could have won the case. But computer laws are sketchy and RIAA lawyers could and would find the loopholes they need. Anyway - a wealthy conglomorate organization wins more money from strongarming people around. Yay.

I don't think the RIAA's gonna stop until either all file sharing is gone or someone slaps them in the face and tells them to face reality. I don't see either happening too soon, so get used to being musicless.

Someone should start an "RIAA are fuckwits" awareness fund, in which all money donated will go towards advertising educating the masses on what this evil is doing, and how to avoid buying records from them. Or fund a big fucking explosion at their headquarters. One or the other.
