The buzz has been so shitty I'm probably not going to get it, despite being interested in the idea at first.
Plus I can't decide if the heroine borders on Lara-croftian boob sales tactics, or if its just so hilariously overboard it can't be faulted for that.
Dunno, I'll watch this thread and see if anyone enjoys it.
Check Neo's review:
(Scroll down) http://nfg.2y.net/games/
Considering it's getting such bad reviews, I doubt it's going to sell very well, so I'm going to wait till it's considerably cheaper before I plunk down for what will likely be not much more than playable wank material :p
Not me :(
But I would like to play it.
Maybe I will give it a rent. I can afford to spend $6 :)
Me: "Do you guys have P.N.03 for the GameCube? I think it was supposed to come out today."
Best Buy Employee: "Let me go check in the back."
...
Best Buy Employee: "This is what you wanted, right?" *shows me a copy of Wrestlemania XIX*
lol.
The character design is neat, but what I played of the demo left me feeling pretty much apathetic to it.
I agree with you Kid...ya Frenchy! But I still might buy it. The hilarious ass-wiggling alone is worth the price of admission.
I think it's just so hilariously overboard, myself.Quote:

I picked it up
personally i liked the demo alot and im liking the final
I'm loving the game, though the backgrounds are starting to get repetitive. The gameplay is damn fun, feeling like a 2D shooter shoved into a third-person game. Maybe a good way to look at it is like a free-roaming version of Dynamite Duke or Charge 'N Blast.
You shoot, you dodge, you try to combo your enemy destructions to chain bonus points. I think the game plays great, and its rythmical exlosive shooting is fun. I can't believe the raping it is getting by IGN and Gamespot - it deserves a hell of a lot better than 5's. I'd give it a 9 right now, but that may change as I play through it for the second time. Gotta see if it holds its fun the second journey through.
Got it on day one, Japan time. It rules and that's all I have to say. You shoot, you dodge. It's an action game and a damn fine one. Those expecting story, fancy cinemas or any sort of wank material need not apply.
Pa
How does it control? Everybody says it's like controling a tank.
Does her ass ever stop shaking like that?! It's like no matter what I do I can't get her to turn her groove off!
I LOVE IT!
On a not-so-entirely-unrelated note, My GameStop was giving away free Vanessa Schnider glasses with a purchase of the game. You know, the cool yellow ones she's wearing on the front of the game cover. They come in a neat frosted clear plastic case with P.N.03 spattered across the front. They're really neat. :D
"Everybody says it's like controling a tank."
Yeah...I don't know who these people are, but they have to be some incompetent gamers. I got my first taste of it at PaCrappa's house a few months ago and asked, "OK, what are the buttons?" Within 30 seconds, I had everything figured out. She's a lot more agile than most people who have "played the game" seem to think. SO not only does she not control like a tank (I don't know where this comes from), but the controls are simple. Most of the games getting lauded with praise lately feature characters that don't control nearly as well. The GTA guy? If you think he controls well, then you'll have no problem here. If she controls like a tank, then he must be the Rock of Gibraltar or something.
Just give it a play at a kiosk ;p You'll know whater you like it within minutes, IMO. Don't even have to rent it.
crap crap crap, and more crap. This game is annoying, pointless and lame in my opinion.
*phew it felt good to get that out after 2 days of the forum being down*
I hate it, I'm buring the disc as we speak.
yeah. aint no itagaki game.
and what the hell is 'buring' supposed to be? and bitch, you never made me a pie.

anywhoo, I just don't like it, it's bad. Why does she keep tapping her feet? Why does my energy run out so fast? Why does she look like Trinity from the Matrix?
I think it would help if things (movement-wise)were a bit sped up. It seems to take awhile not only to shoot, but to dodge, jump (why isn't there a double jump anyway? It seems like it would help things out)...
I dunno, it just seems like if it was ZOE style fast, I'd like it better. I guess I'll quit bitching and go play ZOE then. No, no, actually, I'm just going to go to sleep.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you suck at it, and thats the root of all your problems.Quote:

What, is it Be A Dick To Satsuki Day already? Damn, I almost missed out. Here's my contribution:
(special thanks go out to Lhaddatt, who I believe originally made the pic)
Should I know who Itagaki is? I mean I mostly just play games and spend less time studying their lineage. Someone please inform.
Thanks in advance,
Pa
Dead or Alive about sums it up. Sure, there are more, but whatever.
Yeah, he's the head of Team Ninja. He likes to be weird and talk big, as if his team's really accomplished or something, when all they really have is DOA, DOAXBV, and the upcoming Ninja Gaiden.
And people keep interviewing him and listening to his point of view, even about fighting games.
It's amazing. Kinda like Perry from Shiny and American McGee.
I still think Alice is fantastic ;p More than I can say about Itagaki's stuff.
BUT ANYWAY...how about PN03 ;p
I'm really considering buying it, despite the negative hype.
More and more I care less and less about what magazines and the industry say about games. I mostly base my buying decisions on you guys, and I haven't bought a shitty game or missed out on an obscure gem in a long, long time.
I think I will be picking up P.N. 03, but when it gets cheaper. I believe Disgaea needs my money first. Who knows when that'll go *poof*?
Ah, I see. So DOA2 is really all he currently has going for him then? I mean 3 was pretty cool but that boss fight was just stupid. Well, that's settled. Thanks Mzo. Who knows, Ninja Gaiden does look promising.
American McGee's Alice was great, but I don't know if one great game based on someone else's engine makes one an industry pundit or anything.
Pa
captain vegetable- can you take a picture of the glasses? sorta wondering how they look in real life. (hell i might be interested in getting them too then)
thinkin about picking up pn03 at the tru buy 2 get 1 free thing...assuming i have the money and any game is in the deal.
I'd love to take a picture for you, but I don't have a digital camera. :(
I'll try to get a pic when they arrive at my place.
Cool. Problem solved!
P.S. SHE'S STILL SHAKING HER ASS!
I'd glad there are other people that are enjoying P.N.03 :)
I plan on finishing Easy mode tonight (it should have been labeled Super Mega Easy mode...) and jumping right into Normal mode. I think the trick to chains is to have your main weapon maxed out in power-ups so you can drop your sucka enemies in no time. I tend to balance my power-ups too much. Hell with that from now on!
This game - and Vanessa - kick your ass. I think it's unbelievably fun, but it's firmly set in the "love-it-or-hate-it" genre. Vanessa is *ahem* beautifully animated - I think all the dance stuff is super cool and gives the game its own identity. I'm happy they trashed the guns. Oh, and the soundtrack is amazingly good, and makes the backtracking in the trial missions more than worth it. Vanessa's got quite a snappy mouth on her, too: "I think the transporter is bad for my skin."
I cannot understand why this game is getting trashed (glares at IGN & Gamespot). The controls are fine - they're just different, much like GunValkyrie's. I can see why some think the gameplay repetitive, but I think going for combos and no-damage clears is what the game is designed around, so that makes each room a fresh challenge, as you get graded between rooms, not just between missions. Sure, the environments are repeated, but the gameplay is so fun and compelling it doesn't matter. The camera is never a problem, the controls work perfectly once you get used to them (it took me like five minutes), and the audio/visuals are very well-done. It feels a lot like a puzzle shooter, as you quickly view the environments for hiding spots, track enemy types (each one gives a unique timer extension, so if you want to combo the entire room, better kill them in a certain order) and movement patterns.
kabuki, did you unlock the Blackbird suit when finishing Easy?
First Otogi, now PN03 - it's a great time for action games. I don't think it's going to be a major hit because it's got such a niche kind of vibe to it - you'll either dig it or get totally turned off by Vanessa's gesturing - hence the poor scores and such.
"The controls are fine - they're just different, much like GunValkyrie's."
The controls are fine but let's not misread the man. They are nothing like Gunvalkyrie's controls. GV's truly have a learning curve. PN03's can be picked up in about two minutes, much less curve.
And I feel the reason it won't be big is because the sorryass magazines (whose employees rarely, if ever, spot a good game until it's time to put it in the retro pages where it will undoubtedly score and 8.5) have all gotten together and unilaterally decided to pan it. Of course those pussies rarely score a true action game anywhere near what it's worth. They gotta save all those high marks for some schlocky "adventure" title or the next Madden.....
Pa
I feel as though the reason for the controls getting bashed like they do is that Vanessa can't shoot and run at the same time. At least, that's what everyone who played the game at my store tonight was saying. People want to keep moving while they attack the oncoming masses of monsters. Dante does it. Hotsuma does it. Maximo does it. Why the Hell doesn't Vanessa do it?
They don't really get that confronting the enemy, in-your-face style, is what Vanessa's character is all about. Flipping left or right just as some rockets are about to blow a football sized hole in your ass, and railing on the attack button until your enemy's next attempt at your life is ready is what this game is all about. And Capcom forces you to play that way, and I think that's what these people don't like about it. In that reguard, it is much like Gun Valkyrie, in that it's play style was forced upon you, rather than letting you feel it out for yourself.
Oh well. Their loss.
Vanessa's attacks are ranged. Being able to do both simultaneously would make chaining and staying alive easy.
People don't want that challenge, though.
Chaining and staying alive are easy.Quote:

Yah, an extra pair would be cool. :) They had forgotten about the glasses when I picked up my copy, I asked them if it had any promo stuff and the nice GS employee went into the back and got me a pair.
Currently on Stage 3 on Normal. Slow going since I keep stopping to work on other things.
Tell you what. Since you already have some, and I'm having a hard time finding a pair for Werewolf, I'm going to mail him this pair, and if I can find another pair, I'll mail them to you, OK?

hmm...I'd be inclined to get it, if F-Zero, Disgaea, and SC2 weren't tying up my free hours. Is it a short game? Like Warioworld short?
It's 11 levels long.
I bought the Japanese import of this game and enjoyed it. I don't care what anybody says, but I would have liked it a lot more if she could move and shoot at the same time. Also the way she jumps seems a bit clunky like there is a delay or something. The backgrounds could have used more variety but Vanessa's design is great as is the music. I don't think it deserves the bashing it is getting, but the control is just not as intuative as it could be. It's not like a tank though, I don't know where the hell people are getting that idea from! :)
I was looking forward to this title, but the controls in the beginning are awful, they're not responsive at all to the environment. But later on in the game you get an automatic gun, so you can stop pressing A all the time.Quote:

I dunno, I played the demo in Best Buy and I found the controls to be really sluggish and unresponsive. Who knows, maybe it does have the GunValkyrie syndrome and I just have to play it more...
Kabuki, you don't suck. To unlock the Blackbird you need to purchase every other Aegis in the game, and then beat it. You probably just left a suit or two unpurchased.
To unlock the Papillion you need to finish the game one more time with the Blackbird in your suit selection. It's just like the Blackbird, but with certain areas of suit missing, showing skin in it's place.
I recomend giving the training missions an extensive workout. It's the only way you can buy all the suits in a single play-through.
A suit or two? LOL, try seven!Quote:

One question - how does one successfully beat a training level? I did it once (and it unlocked Training Mission 2), but don't know what I'm doing wrong all the other times. Also, are there 5 training levels specific to each in-game mission?
Thanks in advance,
- Kabuki
Yeah! What now, Mr. Caterpillar?! The tables have turned and your ass is mine now!
On a related note: New suits! Related to that: *looks at price* EEK! But they look so cool, I must have! You have to get the ranking "Professional" to get the next Training Mission. To get that, clear out at least most of the rooms (possibly all), get mostly No Hit Clears, and move fast. I'm up to Training Mission 3 and then went back to number 1 for getting easy cash, although that seems pointless now since you can get 10,000+ from chaining a large room of 11 enemies which they don't give you in the first one.Quote:

it's not that kind of game. play some Cabal, NAM 1975, or best of all, Bloodbrothers. the game will make more sense to you after that i guess.Quote:

I cannot believe how much fun this game is! :D I agree wholeheartedly that it's one of the best 3D action games I've ever played.
Regarding the Training Missions: yes, you have to get Professional ranks to unlock the next one. In addition, if you score Professional on the fifth training mission, you'll get a huge points bonus - usually 180,000. If you clear an entire set with all Pros, you'll get around 400,000 points, getting you close to those Ultra suits. Well worth the effort.
While playing Easy, I cleared every single training mission with a Professional ranking. Super, super addicting. I'm pretty sure you absolutely have to destroy all enemies to get that rank (of course the higher combo the better), but I've gotten Pro while still getting only two or three No Damage Clears.
But what surprised me when I loaded a new game on Normal was that every single suit can now be maxed out! Even suits that didn't have Auto can now go Full Auto. I'll still max & use the Blackbird since it has the Tengu Pro Energy Drive - plus it looks bad-ass - but at least now you can use whatever suit you want - only differences are the Drives and their appearance. I think the cost to upgrade is the same for every suit, too.
I was hoping your unused continues would carry over to a clear game save, but no such luck. I am looking forward to Hard Mode - I think it's gonna be really tough.
Anyone know if there's a soundtrack available? It's at least as good as Rez's........
I agree, Bio. The soundtrack has me shaking my ass along with Vanessa.
But then again, I would.
Um...so what do you guys think of that loco ending?
Pretty cool final boss, but what about after that? Who was the client? Who was Vanessa? What the heck is Product Number 03?
edit: Anyone know if Normal/Hard have a different ending?
Anyone tried Hard Mode yet? I did, a little. Pretty intense. I'm looking forward to tackling it with the fully-powered Blackbird.
After you beat the game twice you'll have all of those questions explained. You even get to see the Client's face.
I look forward to that.
I did. It's a big, fatty-fat mind screw.Quote:

Silly. It's too bad since Play had such potential. I think I'll stick with XBN because, as Halverson might say, it features a clean design and attractive colors that ignites within me a conflagration of abstract meaningful feeling that every person must have lying dorman in their souls and the writing is good enough to quote and recite while standing on a high cliff basked in the midnight moonlight overlooking a forest filled with furry horny critters.Quote:

Well, I will check other HV later today.
Redco - Put it on easy & you will have more than enough continues to play with. It really is very easy, so you will get used to it enough that if you dig it, a second playthrough on Normal is very enjoyable. Plus, you can ask here for any tips you may need. I would stress completeing all the training missions before moving on to the next level, you will get lots of practice & tons of money to buy upgrades & new suits with. Those suits will also help ease the difficulty of Normal mode on your second play.
JM
I've been playing straight through normal mode...but everyone else did easy mode first...I feel left out. :(
JM, I'm very happy that you tried the game and are liking it!
I started on Easy because I kept hearing about how difficult Normal got, and I wanted to be sure I had the controls down...plus the Blackbird will definitely help.
Strange - I mentioned in the Otogi thread that I usually don't stick with action games long enough to unlock/complete everything, but first with Otogi, now with P.N. 03, I'm on a serious mission. I am willing to bet that P.N.'s Hard Mode is going to be a serious challenge, but I really cannot wait to take it on. Even Orta didn't have this effect on me.
Lots of reviewers say they want something different, but when they finally get it, they complain about the differences ("Why can't Vanessa strafe?").
I'm super intrigued about that second ending!
Someone on gamefaqs posted that you don't unlock the Papillon suit just by finishing the game twice - supposedly you also have to get Professional rankings on all 50 Training Missions, while also having the Blackbird (unlocked by purchasing all other suits, then finishing the game once). I haven't gotten confirmation of that yet, however.
I hope not, since I started on Normal and I'm clearing out the training missions with pro rankings. I'll be kinda annoyed if I have to do them again.
Maybe. It's so much fun I dunno if I care :D
Do I need to go back and beat Easy to earn the Blackbird?
No, you can earn the Blackbird on any setting as long as you purchase all of the other Aegis suits before you win the game.
Bio, that's rediculous. To get the Papillion all you have to do is finish the game with the Blackbird in your inventory. That's it...and I could have sworn I already told you this. ;)
Are you sure Capt.? Do you have it? I know that is how you do it in the JP release, but I heard the requirements were changed for the US release.
JM
