My old monitor spontaneously died on me and I'm currently using a 13" crapola one that's probably at least 7 years old. My last one wasn't anything special, but it beat 13" hands down.
Anyone got any advice on what kind to get? Good bang for buck, size to price to resolution ratios, the works? I'm all ears. :)

how much you willing to spend? that's a good place to start.
only thing i can say without that is crt over flatpanel.
Yeah, I probably should have mentioned both those points. $300-ish, hopefully less but maybe more if a good reason comes along, and there's no way I'd touch one of those flat-screen things. It's fun to touch the screen at a store and watch the waves from your finger disperse, but there's no way I'd want something I spent money on to do that.
So yeah, more details = a good thing.

I've had a flat screen monitor for quite a while now, probably 7-8 months, and love it to death. I was originally put off by the finger disperment thing too, but I decided that flat screen was the way to go for me. I spent around $200 on it, and $30 for the 3-year Best Buy extended warranty. Haven't had a problem yet, but if I ever do, I'm good to go. I wholeheartadly recommend a flat screen monitor. Mine is a MAG Innovision 14' TFT LCD with a power consumption feature.

I have two flat screen monitors, I love them.
Honestly, don't get a monitor over 17". It's a decent viewable area, inexpensive, and 17" CRTs are just at the point between semi-heavy and fucking-heavy.
I bought a Samsung SyncMaster 753DF when my last monitor flicked out of existance, and I've had no complaints whatsoever. (Of course, there's probably a newer model by now.)
I'd go for an LCD, but the price/quality ratio isn't quite right yet. (There's cheap ones... but they're "cheap".)
