Who else is looking forward to this game?
Excellent. I've heard it's a solid game.
*-neo
As have I. The screens I've seen, mixed with the impressions of it that I've read all point to it being a worthy purchase.
Hmmm...I'm not the worlds biggest Lupin the 3rd fan, but this has piqued my interests. I've seen screen shots in some mag...maybe OPM...or some...thing else? Well, I've seen them, and it looks like it stays true to the art style at the very least.
WHat kind of game do you recon it is? That's more than likely going to be my selling point.
Well, from the screens and impressions I've seen, it looks to be a mix of MGS and action gaming. There is some nice disguise stuff in as well judging by screens. I just wrote up a preview for it, and will hopefully get more info from Bandai regarding the game.
Magic in Thailand?
Lupin's great stuff. The shots of the game look good, but I'm a bit weary. Most anime to game conversions are ok at best.
I'm sure it'll cater to the Lupin fan though, and there will be references galore. I look forward to playing through this at some point.
(Go watch Castle of Cagliostro if you want a good example of quality Lupin the 3rd!)
The game has looked good from all the previews and has been getting solid reviews out of Japan. And with a subtitle of "Magic in Thailand" how can you NOT want to buy it?
NoFace, I've been dying to see that flick, haven't been able to track down a dubbed DVD of it though. Until then, Secret of Mamo and the Pioneer dubbed shows will suffice.
You know, Video Game Depot sent me a subbed VHS copy of Castle of Cogliostro during that "Super Mytery Item" promotion they were running...I threw it out. :(
I love your banner, Veggie. My "preview" went up - http://www.game2extreme.com/news/art...344&language=2
Feedback is appreciated to make it suck less.
Dude...is your last name really "Peeples?" That's cool. :D
I'll get you that feedback in a second. Let me read it...
...OK. First I'd like to state that the names and avatars of a great many people here at TNL now make a lot more sence. :D
I have two insignificant problems with it, J. The first is the "...you won’t want to miss..." part. This particular phrase is over-used among the pros in gaming media, and it doesn't convey the sence of fun and purchase-urgency that I think you're going for.
Second is the entire last sentence. I'd just dump it if I were you. It doesn't soud right, and it brings closure to the article...which is a preview piece. You don't want closure in a preview article. You want some sence of "come on back and see what else we can uncover about it" kind of hanging line, and, " Hopefully, as the release draws near, more information will be revealed about the game," works great to that end.
Just some suggestions, and remember, you asked me. ;)
Thanks for the feedback, now to change this bad-boy. God bless this real-time article changing ability.
That's much better. :)
Glad you liked the changes. The Lupin Encyclopedia has some info on the game.
Um, the regular dvd of Cagliostro IS dubbed. Pretty good dub, too. And yes, it's fantastic, like anything else Miyazaki has done.Quote:

The game's new, official title is : Lupin the 3rd: Treasure Of The Sorceror King
I dig the boxart and the revamped logo.
Does anyone know how it plays yet? No hands-on impressions or anything? Bandai is making this, after all. For that, I remain skeptical.
I was considering importing to see what it was all about, but I don't know . . .
Well, there's a review of the game up on GameFAQs, and it's not too favorable, with control issues being a key complaint. There's a small chance that Bandai might fix it up, but I doubt it. Banpresto was seemingly loyal to the source material though, which is good.
The Thieves' Paradise DVD has a trailer for the game and some in-game footoage. The footage has Japanese voice acting in it judging by the grunts made when Lupin attacks someone, a Spring 2004 release is mentioned at the end of it, which hopefully isn't the case.
Man, that sucks they changed the name. Magic in Thailand roX0rs.
Magic in Thailand may have just been a placeholder name.
You think so:)?
Eh, probably. It could also have been a name that GameTrailers was given for some reason.
Preview on the game
Gamespot's preview, with links to other previews
Knowing that it runs at 60 FPS sure is neat, should make for some silky-smooth sneaking around.
The game now has an official strategy guide to compliment it.
Site for guide
There is also a board for the guide. The main board there also has a board for the Disgaea guide as well.
DoubleJump's doing the guide? That is the hotness.
I haven't seen much Lupin but what I've seen I liked. I'm definitly going to check this out, looks great.
Wasn't there a Lupin arcade game? I think it was one of those laser disc games and they changed everyone's names. Cilff Hanger, maybe?
Double Jump Books is allowing folks to submit questions for an interview with Bandai about the game, the questions could appear in the game guide. Details on submitting questions This same thread, reworded a bit, was also posted on the GameFAQs board for the game.
After seeing the preview on the fourth voume of the lupin DVD's I can say I'm defenately excited, the preview in this months Play makes it look cool as well...
GMR also has a preview in it. I'm very excited about the game, because, as a game, it looks like a light-hearted stealth affair, and as a use of the license, it looks fantastic as well.
I think the use of the license is it's best asset. It may not turnout to be the best stealth game, but who the hell cares? it's lupin for the love of god... lupin...
Yup. I can't wait to adapt to the form of statues and change into disguises. Also, I can't wait to hear the Pioneer/Geneon voice cast in the game, as it might be the last Lupin thing they do. Oh, and I added a question to the thread on the DJB thread on the game, concerning the logo, which I think looks pretty good. A mix between the one that Animeigo used for "Rupan III" and the Pioneer/Geneon one.
I can't wait. :D
Awesome. I'm really looking forward to the guide, the listing of features for it so far (character art, Q&A, etc.) is pretty cool, and the fact the DoubleJump is letting the fans actually have some say in the content is just awesome. I'd love to see one of my questions get used, it'd be cool to see my name in a print publication for gaming.
I submitted my question!!!
"So, why did you guys choose to use the red jacket, instead of the green?" :D
OMG! DOOD! I saw your question. Keep in mind though that it's just with Bandai, and they're just translating it from the original game, which had the red jacket. Monkey Punch has said that the red jacket is the "true" Lupin. Also, LUPIN'S COMING BACK TO ADULT SWIM!! It'll be back on Jan. 5 at 1:30, thanks to the Lupin the Thirrd Yahoo Group (which I just posted on) for that info.
Lupin's already on Adult Swim, isn't it? At like 2:00am or something?
Nah, they took it off a whle ago. 2:00 AM is now used for re-showing the first run of shows on it, and Lupin's time slot was all over the place.
The game has new, slightly less-good boxart, with a green background and 3D renderings replacing the hand-drawn versions. I'll attach a file once I can actually get it to upload without stopping halfway through. Also, I updated the Yahoo Group with info on which episodes were airing when it returns.
Oh, and Xeno, Cliff Hanger did have some Lupin stuff in it to my understanding. Also, for those who would like to see tons of character and location screens, check out the official site for the JPN game at www.Lupin-Game.com
The Bandai site for it is, again, http://www.bandaigames.com/game.cfm?id=2
Also, I'll probably take some screen grabs of the in-game stuff from the Volume 4 DVD, there isn't much, but it's better than nothing.
I've only read the Lupin mangas and they have an ridiculous amount of sex and nudity. It's almost like 2 steps away from hentai. I wonder will the video game have any of that?
I seriously doubt it. Also, which mangas have you read? I just picked up Volume 8 (to go along with 1 and 2) and it's pretty tame when compared to those two, fun read nonetheless. Also, according to the Lupin Encyclopedia, there will be a sixth DVD release for the second TV series. The title is - Lupin the 3rd: Lupin the Target, can't wait to buy it. Oh, and the second series returns on Adult Swim tonight (technically tomorrow) at 1:30 A.M.
Just found out that my name will be appearing in the guide for the game. WHOOHOO!!
That's awesome. I guess my question didn;t make it. :( ;)
Well, time will tell. IGN has a review of the game up - http://ps2.ign.com/articles/489/489970p1.html
I'll be snatching this game up quickly, as I have a "get an extra $10 in trade-in credit" EB coupon if I find three games to get rid off, which should (hopefully) allow me to get both the game and guide for next to nothing.
Very cool news, as the guide will be made available for free via a PDF file on Bandai's site - http://www.doublejumpbooks.com/yabbs...y;threadid=251
So, the game came out today. You buy it yet, Jay?
That rhymed.
Nah, the earliest I'll get it is this Saturday, hopefully along with the guide.
Cool. I'm probably going to return Champions of Norrath for it tomorrow, if my paycheck sucks, that is.
And, Jay, how are the Lupin DVDs with nudity and sexual crudeness? I'd like to buy them, but only if they appear in their Adult Swim cut, as the wife and I don't appreciate that whole nudity thing. Especially in cartoons. ;)
CV, the nudity is pretty mild. The only nudity edits I can think of for them are Fujiko's bare butt in the shower in the first ep. of the second series, some edits in the nudist camp section in one episode on the fourth DVD volume, and a topless section in To Be or Nazi Be that would definitely be cut in an AS airing. That's for the second series DVDs, the content on the films and TV specials varies, but beyond some nudity in Dragon of Doom and tons in Secret of Mamo and the Secret of the Twilight Gemini, as well as some risque porno vid covers in Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure and a thong-clad Fujiko in the opening of the film it's pretty tame.
OK. I sounds pretty mild all around. I have the Secret of Mamo, and there was a bit in that, but nothing over the top. I still don't appreciate it, but I can handle it.
Thanks, man.
Incedentally, are the DVDs available in an Adult Swim cut?
Getting this tomorrow. In all honesty I think controlls and puzzles are gonna suck... but the atmosphere will win me over... Lupin is teh best EVAR!1!!!
CV, no, not for the second series. However, some of the flicks are available edited. Check out www.lupinthethird.org for a listing of them within the reviews, they are quite rare. As far as the game goes, I'm expecting something that does the characters and the license justice, and I'm hoping the puzzles are decent. Anything beyond that is gravy.
The puzzles aren't bad, but the controls could be a bit more tight. They're a bit drunk, and by that I mean a bit sluggish and slow on the pick-up.Quote:

I might wait for the price to drop, and I might not. But it's a pretty decent game, and it does Lupin justice.
Yea, I saw it on Starcade on G4TV, same exact characters and settings and activities, just different voices.Quote:

DJB announced that the guide will not be released in any form. Dang.
Bandai released a guide- WOOHOO- http://www.bandaigames.com/lupinguide/default.htm
Are the questions in it?
No, it's just a pseudo-walkthrough.
GameFAQs walkthrough, pretty well done - http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/31465.html
Somehow, I missed DJB's interview being posted on the board for the past three months. It was neat seeing the answers to the many questions asked.
