Anyone ever heard of John Titor?

I spent the better part of today reading all the information on Titor from that and various other sites. Needless to say, them are some interesting theories he puts forward. Especially in regard to the "Mad Max"-esque future where food and water raiding is commonplace.

edit: Unless you were stuck because of the hurricane or something. Alls I know is that when Andrew hit, we lost power for like a week; there were downed wires and trees everywhere. It was miserable (especially the no AC part).

Nah I mean its one thing if it was proven false and all that, but I gotta admit this guy was good.

If that had happened on here, how many of you would have questioned yourself in light of the things he was saying?

Also not for anything, but the inherent criticism that comes from anyone who can predict or had knowledge of the future is always the same, its always the same response from people (it was obvious, or of course we could see it coming).

Either way it was an interesting read.

Anybody see the other time traveller page on anomalies.net? The video of the dimensional portal is intriguing, but it could be faked. They even add an extra spice to it by leaving a magnetic wake/disturbance on the film.

I've been following the discussion about Mr. "John Titor" with some interest, and I have to say, it is certainly a very intriguing story. However, I also have to say that, in spite of all the discussion, there is not a SHRED of evidence to suggest that this is anything but a hoax. Nothing. Now, Mr. Titor is obviously a reasonably intelligent and well-read man. He is articulate, and certainly convincing in his unwavering attachment to his story. However, it's fairly obvious to me that this is an indivual with very particular and strong political beliefs and that he is trying to convince people -- fool people I should say -- into seeing things his way by concocting this nonsense story. After all, who is going to argue with a guy when he already knows the outcome of all the political decisions to come? I'll talk more on that later. But let's consider the facts.

The fact is, contrary to what I have read, Mr. Titor has predicted absolutely NOTHING. Let's look:

He "predicted" that CERN might possibly be able to create a small black hole. However, this information was released before Mr. Titor began his rants on the Internet. Here is an article from May of 2000 that proves it.

He "predicted" the Mad Cow pandemic. "I have tried to tell people about CJD disease and it seems to be "catching on" in Europe." This is real clever, because he words it as if he was out there warning people who didn't know about the threat, and that his prediction turned out to be correct. However, Mad Cow was around long before 2000, and was being widely talked about in the news from the mid 90's. He is simply warning about an already well-known problem after the fact.

In spite of beginning his writing right around the time of the 2000 election, he mentions nothing about the winner or loser in that election, even though he would damn well know who it was. This obviously wouldn't violate any of his rules, since it was going to be decided pretty soon anyway. But this is carefully avoided.

The fact that he says we are losing our rights is viewed as a hit by some people because of the Patriot Act and the War on Terrorism. However, people on the far end of both political spectrum have been saying that for YEARS. This only reinforces my point about him being a political activist.

So let's get back to that for a moment. To me, it's pretty damn obvious that his motivation for doing this is to engage people in political debate/thought. Notice how he frequently tries to
engage people in debate about the mass media, commercialism, genetically-altered food, etc. etc. He's preaching, plain and simple. Moreover, I would bet this guy is a 7th Day Adventist, judging by one of his comments about the Lord's sabbath being held on the correct day, his generally strong religious talk, and his political leanings. Here are some links for you to compare. I'm not saying he is definitely a 7th Day Adventist, but his beliefs are very similar.

This last link is of particular interest. One thing that struck me as particularly peculiar about Mr. Titor's posts is that he mentions Elian, Ruby Ridge, and Waco in several instances. He goes into some significant detail on Waco, even talking about the muzzle flash on the weapons of the FBI. Now, recall that several times people ask Mr. Titor about significant or interesting events from the era, and his answer is, "I studied to go back to 1975, so I don't know very much about this time." And yet, he seems to know about these events in detail. The reality is, none of those 3 events have had much lasting importance to most people. In other words, in 30 years, I doubt very much that they will be in any history book with much more than passing mention, if that. The only groups that place great significance on these three events (and, it should be noted, PARTICULARLY these three events) are the rabidly anti-government groups; the same groups that are usually strongly pro-gun, states rights, etc. etc. Interstingly, Titor asks about the 2nd amendment specifically in his 13 December rant, and also takes a shot at the military. In his 26 January rant, he states, "I am a very strong believer in local or state's rights." Incidentally, take a look at the "history of the church" link above, and read the 7th Day Adventist view on the Federal Government.

Let me sum up:
#1: John Titor predicts absolutely nothing. There is NOTHING to suggest he knows what will happen in the future.

#2: John Titor has an obvious aversion, at the very least, to eating processed meat.

#3: John Titor is an advocate of state's rights -- as are the 7th Day Adventists, and anti-government groups.

#4: John Titor is a Christian who believes the Sabbath should be held on Saturday -- consistent with the 7th Day Adventists

#5: John Titor emphasizes Ruby Ridge, Waco and Elian Gonzales -- also strongly emphasized by anti-government groups

#6: John Titor obviously believes country living is the best. Here is a direct quote from one of the links I provided on 7th Day Adventists:
"Country living is preferred to city lifestyle. Living a life as simply and naturally aspossible away from stressful influences is encouraged"

#7: John Titor frequently talks about the importance of close family, and the family unit. A quote from one of the links above: "The Family is the foundation of the Church. Without sound family government, the Church will not prosper."

#8: John Titor states that clothes in the future are warn for practical purposes, not for fashion or show. A quote from the 7th Day Adventist Church Manual: "Christians should avoid gaudy display and "profuse ornamentation." Clothing should be, when possible, "of good quality, of becoming colors, and suited for service. It should be chosen for durability rather than display"

I could go on for a while. But I would say his beliefs are pretty consistent, with the particularly important one, obviously, being that he celebrates the Sabbath on Saturday. Now, I'm not saying he is DEFINITELY from the 7th Day Adventists; there are one or two thing that don't quite match up (ie they are supposed to be conscientious objectors). However, I would definitely bet he is in a group LIKE the 7th Day Adventists.

So what does this all mean? It means that there is everything to indicate that John Titor is a man from this time period, who is a member of the 7th Day Adventist church or something similar to it, and who holds anti-government views, call them libertarian as some have, or whatever you may. If you cut out all of the time travel crap and get straight to the points he is trying to make, you will find that he is preaching religion and politics. That is exactly what he is doing.

But even if you don't buy my theories about that, the overriding point here is that there is not a shred of evidence to suggest that this man is a time traveller, other than that he says he is. He has provided absolutely NOTHING that shows he is what he claims to be. Look past the fancy talk. Look past the politics. Look past the interesting stories. Look past your own anxiety about the future. What you are left with is a guy who spins a good yarn, writes well, and is pretty smart. This situation is no different then if a guy walked up to you on the street and said, "Hi! I'm from the year 2036." There is no more evidence here then there would be in that case. It's all smoke and mirrors. Nothing more.

Just so you know, the generalities of the predictions of which Mr. Titor spoke could easily have been ascertained by any astute person of your era. In the future, please use some reason and logic when confronted by this type of situation and don't be so gullible.

This part is entirely too plausable. I can see it happening.

If Bush wins, he'll have carte blanche to alienate the left even further, and there will be all kinds of heated protests. This will lead to events like "Kent State" all over the place.

If Kerry wins, the right-wing nutjobs will think he can't protect them properly, and they'll start stockpiling weapons for their own civil defense. This will lead to events like "Waco" all over the place.


It doesn't matter who wins the election. The country's extremely polarised, and government-public relations have nowhere to go but down.
