I've been keeping an eye on this one for a couple years. Now that it's coming out in English and I've seen the preview trailer, I've decided not to get it. :o It looks like playing Magic cards with Monopoly... I mildly like the latter but dislike the former.

I'd take Monopoly over Magic any damn day. Card Fighters, that's where it's at.
I don't like the art style, either.
I think it looks cool. I came very close to getting the Dreamcast import a few times, but now I am glad I held off. :)

Don't view it like "I hate Magic the Gathering so I'll pass." The battles are not nearly as convoluted as in Magic. The boardgame aspects are more dynamic than Monopoly. It's a whole beautiful beast in itself.

Sorcerer can deliver a scroll attack of ST=30 without an item.It have nothing to do with power as the enemy about Goblin by the attack of Sorcerer which repeals defense of geographical feature. First of all, Goblin is since defense of geographical feature cannot be received.
For Cepters, this battle is only practice of the opening part.

- Goblin Vs Cyclops.
Although Cyclops is a forcible creature, it always bats last in a battle.
The land which this Cyclops protects is surrounded by the creature of an enemy's Cepter in both ends. Goblin is attacking Cyclops gaining support of two creatures of a friend.
However, it does not have power until this Goblin pushes down Cyclops.
Probably, for the master of this Goblin, it was enough just to give a damage to Cyclops.

- Tempernce.
This man (Rybern) seems to shower water. However, it is different. Although it is hiding in Rybern, the object of this spell is a creature. Tempernce will set even what creature to MHP=30.

This leg is the symbol of land being trampled down. In Charm acquisition competition, it becomes important to have more Charms(Element symbols). However, the spell of this "Pressure" has the effect which demotes worth of all Charms(Element symbols) 30%.

- Dwarf which is having the injury treated.
The special capability of Healer which is a creature is the power which treats the injury of other creatures. Now, Healer treated Dwarf by the command of a master.
The territory which this Dwarf protects is the territory of Blue Cepter. If brightness of a blue frame is seen, it can check that this territory is three or more levels.Both Dwarf and Healer are the creatures of a ground attribute. Probably blue Cepter is considered to possess the book of a ground attribute.

I guess I shouldn't have said the battles are simple, because they really aren't. It's all about judging what your opponent will throw down, and whether to react to that or to go for the kill.
The battles aren't rediculously complex like in Magic, though :)

i'm still enjoying it very much, but i just got my ass handed to me by the computer, which isn't much fun. as with magic and monopoly, luck can play a big part in the proceedings. moreover, it compounds due to the dual nature of them...
good stuff still and all, of course.

The a few difference in Culd 1 Ex and Culd 1 Ex+ is only the number of maps. The number of Culd 1 Ex+ of maps increased for a while from Culd 1 Ex.Quote:

ok, culdcept gurus.
i got the saturn version of culdcept in the mail today from ebay and i played the first battle. i have some observations and some questions..
for one, interestingly there's a music copyright on the title screen for yuzo k. the music isn't all that, though. sigh. that's a seperate discussion, however.
the game is very much the same as the PS2 version -- so much so that i was shocked. obviously, it's in lower resolution, but it has many of the same cards (some of which are slightly rebalanced) and all of the gameplay elements. rather than being a skeleton or suggestion of what culdcept might be, it's more like the new version is a refinement of that full-fledged concept.
however, there is one difference that i don't understand. when you hit the castle it brings up a menu asking if you want to do something with your opponent. if you pick his/her name it brings up a menu and the woman's voice says "sometimes you have to make a contract with your enemy." i was wondering what that's all about? it's not in the PS2 version of the game. i didn't try to puzzle my way through the menu, because i was just starting out, but that's certainly a significant-seeming change.
i played through the whole first round. it's harder than the first round of the PS2 game, and your deck starts with some more advanced cards (slightly.) a bigger map, a bigger G goal, etc.
anyway, it's pretty interesting and i'm glad i picked it up. it's also pretty easy to play given my semi-decent japanese skills and having played a lot of the PS2 version. i'd be lost if not for the latter, but it's pretty cool with those taken together.
also, it seems that it runs quicker than the PS2 version. i don't know what it is about games these days, but it seems that many of them are slower in menus and navigation. that's part of why i responded so favorably to .hack -- it's fast as shit. that is also another discussion.
Culdcept was fundamentally the same from Culd 1.
I seldom expected in fact, when Culd 1(Saturn version) was released. Rather, I have not understood what the players would do, when the trailer of this game was seen. And it did not seem to be pleasantly.
However, I knew that Yuzo Koshiro and Naoyuki Katoh had participated in work of this game.
The company (The Ancient (http://www.ancient.co.jp/)) of Yuzo Koshiro and him dealt with the music (fundamentally the same music) of Culd 1 (or Culd 1Ex or Culd 1Ex+).
It of Culd 1 was still new technology, and was more new those days.
In fact, it separated from my expectation. Culd 1 was very interesting (I had called it the combat monopoly simply). The present Culdcept (Culd 2Ex) looks pretty. Compared with it, Culd 1 is rough-planed.
The some are like the next.
- The divine message of God "you lose one territory."
- One of the spell card, "Meteor Storm" (The levels of 5 lands are set to 1 at random).
- The card with which the effect was alike exists.
However, these rough points are just the charm of Culd 1.
Please read the text of a card, if you have Culd 1 (or Culd 1Ex or Culd 1Ex+). Moreover, please play story mode (it is fundamentally the same). There, it is the myth of Culdcept.
Please extend Culdcept love.
About a contract with the enemy who was able to do in Culd 1 . This is magic supply and land exchange.
I think. It is which can bear one Cepter at three-person charge's attack.
However, AI does not respond to a contract mostly.

About evolution of Culdcept, the Omiya Soft has taken up the comfortable nature in game balance and operation of a user into the portion which is using mind. They had said that they had improved the portion which becomes troublesome, when a user played the game of numbers of times.
Like O-Well said, the Saturn version is a lot rougher than the new versions. It is not balanced nearly as well as the new games.
Another HUGE difference betwen Culdcept on Saturn and Dreamcast/PS2 is that you cannot save mid-battle. The ability to be able to save and come back to the game later (i.e. break up a 3-hour round) instantly makes the newer versions better :)
It seems that, outside of TNL, Culdcept is not getting the scores it deserves :(Quote:

I saw a single copy at EB! Unfortunately, no cash to pick this one up.
Just ordered it. Very interested in this, can't wait to see what it's like firsthand.
From what I've been reading, it sounds like only EB might be the only place getting it in stock.
I picked my copy up today (at EB) for 39.99, which was one of the few copies they've got in. Haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I'm excited to finally try it.
Looks like my local Gamestop may have it in today. If not I guess I'll just have to order it.

Since it was told about general contents by the preview of a game last time,
it differs from other reviews.
But explanation to people who began to the name of this game is given.
However, this review is written for card game players and board game players.
And it is a thing for those who change with the user of this game.
It is reference to a multi-player and on-line that I attracted the eye.

Well I've been playing the shit out of my copy the last few days. I must say it sucks having to start over with a new book... I miss my good cards I had in the DC version. But it is nice knowing what's going on with the story now.

Does the North America version have an on-line data download function? If there is this function, various tournament results on Web etc. are downloadable.
Another is the possibility of United States and the North America tournament holding. Those tournament becomes the encouragement of the players. The rally promotes relation to this game in more persons.

Are you guys still having trouble finding this? The mom and pop store I work for got it in, so I imagine everyone would be able to, unless managers are passing it over in order to stock more copies of Cat in the Hat.

What is everyone's opinion on the Symbols system (where you buy Symbols based on what land you hope to build on and slowly profit from your investments)?
Is it worth doing? Are there tricks to using it to your best advantage?
This game is so much easier to play in English! Man, now that I can read the card details I don't suck in battles nearly as much :)
I've found it's best to buy some symbols around mid game if you have a good monopoly on a certain color going... then upgrade all of your properties... it can shorten some of those later games quite a bit.
So the exact benefits of the Symbols are:
- Extra mana (G) when passing the castle (but ONLY IF you own the most Symbols out of all the players)
- Extra mana when upgrading territory of the corresponding color in the corresponding area (North, South, etc.)
- You can trade in the Symbols later on if you need extra mana (are there any penalties to doing this?)
Did I get that all correct?
I would assume that you should buy them early on if you know that you will be grabbing all the territory of one type/color in an area -- or do the Symbols only benefit you when Upgrading territory, not when Buying territory?Quote:
