NEW PlayStation 2

Does anyone know when this new PS2 is coming out? The one with the built-in infared for the remote and has the capability to play back-up DVDs. I heard that it was suppose to be included with the Network bundle but Sony decided to pull it and just add the current model in it.

Back up dvd's?

Alright thanks. Reason why I asked was because I was going to sell my current PS2 to my friend and just pay the difference on the new PS2.

yeah mine too. i dont know why people seem to think you need a modchip to play burned movies.....xbox is the same. and ign had an article last week about this new "9000" series and SONY said it will slowly integrate it into current stock within the next month.

I have this version of the Japenese PS2. From what I recall, it has a quieter fan and different-sounding disc tray mechanism. Maybe it's only the Japanese version, but the menu system seems different. Then again, I haven't played his PS2 for quite a while, so my memory may be fazed. Hopefully the power off can be used when playing normal games; I'd like to be able to turn the PS2 without having to open the glass door in front of it (because it's just so difficult).

Actually, it's going to start shipping in the US within a month, according to Sony's execs at last week's Sony Gamers Day. The packaging will look identical, though, so you'll need to check your console's serial number to ensure you get one of the retooled models.

I've been without a PS2 since June, my brother needed one so I gave him mine so I would have an excuse to upgrade to the new model which I THOUGHT was gonna be the one in the Network Bundle.

Finally, I'll have a PS2 again at long last...

Any word if it'll retain the same SCHP-50000 product number the new Japanese model has, or will there be something else to look for?
