:o My mission tomorrow on my day off is to find the Rainbow Six 3 demo disc package thing. I've been playing SOCOM 2 today and I now realize what I'll be buying 1st. Rainbow Six. WHOA.
I just pray it moves as well as it looks.
Rainbow Six 3 just looks goddamn fucking incredible, and about 6000000000000000 times better than Killzone. I guess it doesnt take much to impress a PS2 fan!
It looks like Splinter Cell with teams. God I hope it runs well.
It's being developed by Ubi Montreal (the Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and Raven Shield (RS3 for PC) team), so it's in mighty capable hands. They're pretty much making it a completely new game than the PC rev, and GMR magazine said it's possibly the best FPS they've played this year (and considering they cover the PC, that's just insane).
then again Ghost Recon looks pretty good in screens too.....

Rainbow Six is easily one of my most anticipated games of the year. The fact that they're altering it to act more like a console game makes me happy since I always found the series to be needlessly complicated.

I got the demo today. GO OUT AND BUY OR RESERVE IT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
The game kicks some serious ass. The demo level is Alcatraz and its like the movie The Rock. The game runs nice and smooth, the lighting rules, the weapons sound awesome, the bullets flying past your head sounds awesome, your team is actually not retarded, and ahhh theres a shitload of guns you can select from even though its a demo!!!
There's even cool music playing. Basically this looks like a better splinter cell with kick ass teammates. Your teammates take no prisoners, just point to the ground where you want them to go and they go and rape anything they see. When they infiltrate the room they look real the way they cover each other. I cant say enough good things, its so jizztastic. If anyone has any question just let me know because I'm to crazy to remember what the hell just happened. This game easily shot up to my #1 most anticipated game of the year.
I got the beta for Socom 2 yesterday and it just seems so craptacular after I've played R 6 on Xbox.

No, it's a good system. I've got one. I just wish they'd try and expand Live's horizons beyond inferior ports of FPS games that I can already play online free of charge. The only reason I posted in this thread was because I was under the impression that Rainbow Six 3 wasn't also available on the PC. If that was the case, I'd be commending Microsoft for obtaining a game that is truly exclusive to their Live service. They need as many of those as they can get. Where is everyone getting this port stuff from? Yes, it shares a little bit from the PC rev, but the developer interviews I've read all state that this will be, for all practical purposes, a new game built from the ground up for the 'box. Different levels, different enemies, brand new engine, new textures and light sourcing/fx, etc.

Nightmare in Dreamland is a port of a game to superior hardware (NES -> GBA), and it is considerably more polished than Kirby's Adventure on the NES. That was actually the first GBA port where Nintendo had to dedicate a team of artists to revamp the visuals and animations. Porting Rainbox Six 3 down to the Xbox is a different situation.Quote:

Is the Xbox version different? Yes. Is it better? No one can say yet. I hope it turns out great and can stand out from all the other tactical FPS games though. I think this looks much more promising than Condition Zero or the new Ghost Recon.

I was trying my demo again and found out that by pressing and holding the squad command button I have more actions. Breach and Clear is damn cool. Teammate place a bomb on the door, door shatters and team runs in. :D Why open a door when you can blow it down! I also had a few terrorists give up. Then you cuff em... or kill em anyways. I know this has been done before but I like being able to tap the D-pad to open doors up. Then I can open them slightly and toss in a grenade.

Played through the demo several times now. Good stuff -- they finally got it right and excised all of the pre-stage "planning," thus getting the player right into the action.
It's cool that voice commands work with the demo, although it seems to be somewhat hit or miss, particularly in the first half of the demo. (Picture me screaming "MOVE!!" 3 times in a row, while my daughters, who are already off to one side, tell me on the verge of tears "We're sorry, daddy!") Strangely, even more complicated commands like "open, frag, and clear" seem to work perfectly through the second half of the demo. Anyone else routinely using voice commands? Successfully?

Just got the demo from OXM. As Samurai Moogle mentioned, the level is very similar to The Rock, and they give a nod to the movie with the shower room shootout between the marines and the terrorists. The only thing I dont like is how long it loads maps.
I created my own room and found out you can just set a time limit between rounds and keep replaying maps right away with no load times. Thats sweet. Any questions just ask I'll answer them later.

Get both! They're different enough to warrent owning both. Think of it like this. Rainbow Six 3 is Tiger Woods 2004 while Counter-Strike is Mario Golf. Ones a simulation, one is an arcade-style version of it.
At least I'll be getting both and hopefully RS3 arrives today or tomorrow. I need that new headset X__X

Well, any match over 8 players officially does nothing for me. Me and Latro were in a game -- taking turns shooting each other in the back, apparently -- but never mind trying to hold anything approaching a conversation. Too chaotic. The co-op modes are fantastic, though.
Hat's off for the voice recognition, too, something I've been pining after forever now. Granted, sometimes it takes a couple tries and, yes, there was that one time when I muttered "oh shit" under my breath and one of my men tossed a flash/bang in response.
Still. The communicator is about a million times cooler right now.
I'm too afraid to play the game now. My rank/ELO is rather high and people are always gunning for me. :( last I looked my ELO was 1380 something. Crazy... too bad if I get killed by someone with a low ELO mine plummets. Oh well, I want it to go down really. I watched my bro play a quick game last night and the bastard killed a team of 6. Thats just stupid. :D

Seriously, great times tonight. I met a ton of cool people through a streak of games. My night started off with a really serious toned match with everyone on top of their game (I still felt totally green at the time), issuing commands, setting up ambushes, flanks, ect. By the end of the night I was really comfterable with everything and ran into Prince Planet in a totally casual game. Nearly every round ended with hilarity.

Hey guys. I just wanted to make a quick appology about last night. I played a little with Mog, but two things came up last night.
1. my connection has been super shitty for the last couple days, I will be getting things ironed out soon though.
2. my communicator was totally destroyed last night, & no voice chat really kills the fun of this game. I wanted to play more, but between that & the lag, all fun was sapped from the game.
I didn't want you guys to think I was being rude by not talking or playing for very long.

Rainbow Six 3 is crazy cool. I just got done playing two hours online co-op with a friend of mine. It's hard doing it with just two players, but it's damn fun. Using the voice com to call out tangos and coordinate dual room rushes.
I wasn't ever really a fan of RS on PC, but I gave this a shot last night and I'm gonna have to go buy it. I'll be on later today.
so, is anyone up for co-op? i should be on later tonight/tomorrow night.
I will be on for a little while tonight, then I will be out of it for a few days. I'm switching over to DSL, so I won't be the laggiest player in every room I play in. :)

Someone says there gonna through a smoke grenade so i put on my thermal glasses...........everything goes really fuzzy...it was a flashbang so im running around shooting at anything green and everyone else is running in circles. it was great.
Then another one. Someone says there gonna throw a flashbang...well we all look away then storm the room...alas, the world goes fuzzy it was tear gas. So all 4 of us are running around like crazy. I think this got recorded, i'll have to find out.

In any case the Elo system is not about achieving the most kills to deaths ratio but the quality of people that you are killing. When you first start playing Rainbow 6 on Live I think you start at a default ranking at 1000 or 1100. As you lose to lower ranked players you lose points but when you beat similarly ranked or higher players taht's how you advance. i'm surprised no one was asking about this before.

The ranking system is totally broken, ive seen people with no kills have like 1400 and be in the top five, its even more broken than crimson skies. At least it keeps a kill count.
