I think with a few exceptions (like the MGS closing theme) the music was better in MGS2.
Obviously graphics too but that's pretty stupid to mention, so pretend I didn't ;)

Hmm...
I remember liking the music in both games, not sure which I liked better.
The opening cinema in MGS2 was better than MGS (cinematically, not graphically of course. :D).
Of course, of course ;). I have the Xbox version of Substance and I have to say the sudden slowdowns in the rain are a real piss off. It's like a shabby lesser version of a wonderful wonderful thing. :cries:
I still get chills watching Snake jump off the bridge... god that was cool.Quote:

Of course there won't be. US game companies think that US consumers and limited edition consoles mix like water and oil... Nevermind that we're the most consumeristic country in the world and they'd no doubt meet with fantastic success if they grew some nads and just tried releasing one.
Not really worth salivating over, unless you don't have a Gamecube yet.
Agreed. They should've just release the bonus disc and book as pre-order premiums and be done with it.Quote:

Wonder how much of the art in the artbook will be new, and how much will be a rehash of the MGS they released years back (which rules).

That's cool I guess... but I can barely read Japanese, so it'll get looked at once (like the one that came with the MGS2 Premium Package) and probably never again. Unless it's got dual language portions like the MGS artbook had (which I doubt it will).
Still, I want somebody to release that little Gamecube jewel with the Foxhound logo for a reasonable price. One piece of plastic you can pop out easily shouldn't make it this rare limited edition system =\.
Doesn't Nintendo sell those little black plastic pieces on their store? So couldn't an enterprising individual buy one (or in this case: several) and using a high quality home made stencil, and some decent grade metalic spray paint... make one of their own FOX HOUND GC tops?
Yep, I've replaced the top plastic piece twice now. I think it was something like $3 (or was it $5?) from their online store.
What you suggested is basically what I was hoping for in posts up above. I'd pay $10-$15 for a talented stenciler to do that sort of thing I think...

I'll probably get the shitty ending first and get the optic camo as well. Then I'll go for the good ending and get the bandana.
I'm really curious what other costumes they'll have for Snake... tuxedo Snake I'm sure will be in again, but maybe there's wackier shit in there (red overall Snake perhaps? ;) ).
And I'm really, really hoping there's a playable Fox in there somewhere. Maybe for getting all thd dog tags... that'd be awesome.
I'm thinking perhaps some of the costumes he wears in MGS2 or maybe his Snake Eater outfit.Quote:

Well, I wont be playing it, but dj will be :) Since I got bandana in original MGS, he will be going after Stealth suit first. And playable Cyber Ninja.
I don't know what you're talking about, screwing around with stealth and soldiers never gets old. Running circles around them punching like mad to confuse them and shooting them at point blank range and having them try oh so hard to track me down was great in MGS. Should be even better with the MGS2 gameplay added.Quote:

Looks great but I'm not sure if I prefer the color theme change. Every TS shot is a dark green/grey whereas MGS uses green inside and blue outside and I rather like the original. But this is just fanboy nitpicking which I honestly won't care about in the slightest when I'm playing the game.
Which, I might add, is something I'm not currently doing. I hate waiting.
fanboy nitpicking, yes, but i agree with you. looks like they tried to match the mgs2 color scheme, as opposed to keeping the original's. i prefer the darker look.Quote:

Also - Notice in the radar screen that they've kept the vent system but it no longer trails off the screen. In the original, this contained either a ration pack or some bullets (can't remember which) but had a grate blocking the rest of the vent shaft. Supposedly this vent was supposed to link to the jail-cell somehow but got nixed later on. Wonder if they'll block this one off as well.Quote:

I miss the fake purple/greenish tints from the old game. The new one just looks so grey.

I still wish that they would have added more to the story and maybe some additional Bosses or missions. While I am excited about this, it feels like REmake all over again, with new moves and better graphics, and cut scenes, but the story behind the scenes not changed :(
Honestly I think the Resident Evil remake was much more remade than Twin Snakes. Both added in new gameplay (MGS moreso than RE), both overhauled the graphics greatly, both messed with the game's layout (RE moreso than MGS, from what I hear), but RE at least changed the plot around, fixing a few loopholes, and the experience was much different.
Everything I hear about Twin Snakes is that it's awesome but fundamentaly the same experience (only prettier and with new gameplay options... new if you haven't played MGS2). Still excited, but I've realized when MGS3 is about to hit my frothing demand will increase much more as it gets closer.
Ditto. REmake was definitely a more elaborate remake. It added the whole Lisa Trevor thing to the plot and new areas to explore. Twin Snakes adds nothing to the plot (not that it needs to) and the game's structure remains generally unchanged. It's just MGS1 in MGS2's engine.Quote:

It's fine as is, they're doing a better job at remaking the title then I thought, go Silicon.
oh i completely agree, but a near perfect game with better graphics will never get turned down by me :) so whens this out? 2 more weeks? saw eb and gs have it listed for $40. suprised theres no pre-order swag from either place :(Quote:

I could do without the Metal Gear GC disc, but this, I want.Quote:
There is info on Metal Gear Solid Naked a disc containing inside information on the full Metal Gear series, apparently to be released at the same time as Twin Snakes. I imagine it is the video disc that could come with the Game Cube limited edition... or perhaps as a separate item.
This is part of the nice and expensive Twin Snakes Premium Pack... which I still have on order but am very close to killing.Quote:

Well, here we are less than a week away (or a week depending on where you live) from the release of the game, and in the end there were no US pre-order bounses. I would have figured Nintendo would have wanted to give the only big March Gamecube release a bit of a push... oh wait, that's right Pokemon! Woo! Pokemon! Yeah, that'll really get gamers excited about owning a Gamecube.
Still, all that matters in the end is that it's finally coming out next week.

So what is it? A DVD? A Cube disc? And how can I get it?
For starters, it's not even digital at all. It's a book that serves to clarifies the plot of the series in abudant text and artwork. It features a cover art by Kyle Cooper, a Twin Snakes pinup by Noriyoshi Ourai, a long interview titled the "Potrait of Hideo Kojima", a movie essay fully written by Kojima himself titled "Interview with the Inspired", plus various plot analysises by Ryuhei Kitamura, N'Gai Croal, Hideto Fuse and Masahiro Sakurai
It will come out on March 10.
Oh, so there's zero chance of it coming here. Nice.
Well considering some of the writers (namely N'Gai Croal), it might be released in English or at least have some English text.
Perhaps they're on a budget?Quote:

Wishful thinking.
Don't know but I hope so.

Fry's will have it for $30 on Thursday for anyone interested.
EB got Ninja Gaiden a day earlier and began selling it in my area, so perhaps something similar will happen with MGS: TS.Quote:

EB is Not getting it today (Monday). I thought for sure it would be out tomorrow because its published by Nintendo and all of their own shit usually ships on a Monday. The one EB where I live did get Ninja Gaiden a day early but they said that they wont get MGS till Wednesday or maybe Tuesday night.
God damnit. I really want to play this game. MGS is my second favorite PSone game. Guess I'll just finish Ninja Gaiden tomorrow.
Moogle, you never added me to your list, did you?
The date for MGS: TS is supposed to be the 10th. But it's possible some retailers will get it a day earlier. Sucks that I'll have to go to my store during my day off to get my copy.
In the meantime, I've been playing the original just for fun.
The music CD that came with Castlevania LoD was infinitely better than the game.Quote:

This is just a "if you see it today, please post about it here" request.
IGN and Gamespot both reviewed it, 8.5 and 8.2 respectively.
Some issues they both mention:
Lack of replayability (shocking)
First person mode makes things too easy
Layout is much the same.
Nothing really shocking, about what I was expecting.
I would love to get this today, but it's not gonna be the end of the world if nobody stocks early :)
Haha well, I'm six hours from home and would like to play this with my friends who are the two biggest MGS fans I know of... so I'm hoping I can find a copy today.
I still see no mention of the GBA connectivity, maybe it's a beat the game bonus type of deal that reviewers are hush-hush about.
And I refuse to read about the game on GameFAQS, as I know I'll ruin whatever small amount of surprises I have in store for myself that way.
I'm interested to hear the "drastically altered" MGS theme music the IGN review alludes to at this point.
No GBA connectivity in the game. It was taken out prior to the final version. Considering the GBA only worked as a radar, I'll say we didn't missed much.Quote:

Hmm, I wonder if my EB gets it tonight. I will try to stop by there on my way home.
Well I called my local EB and they have a release date of the 11th of March so I doubt I'll be getting it today.
D
I just called around, and Gamestop sure as hell isn't getting it today. Tomorrow at both Gamestop and EB for people who reserved it. There should be a few for people who didn't, but best bet is Thursday or Friday like with Ninja Gaiden.
Suckage I say to that. Oh well.

No MGS today for me.....damn it. I had today off too. Why the hell didnt it come out today like all other Nintendo published games?
No luck here.
It's possible that a Wal-Mart might stock it at midnight, but I doubt it.
And it isn't Nintendo-published AFAIK.
Yea, part of Konami's deal with this is they get to publish.

The first person to hit the boards with this game in hand needs to put up a new official thread. 13 pages is too much to sift through.
