User Riccardo_Margiotta posted this on IGN.
Thought I'd share :)
Hi folks,
I subscribe to UK magazine Edge, and the latest issue just popped through my letterbox a few days ahead of its newsagent date. Inside is a preview of Killer 7 featuring an interview with Capcom’s Production Studio 4’s general manager, Kobayashi Horiyuki. Plenty of interesting new information is revealed.
First off, the bad news:
“The game was expected for Christmas, but during the interview Horiyuki-san hints that the release has dropped from the colder winter (end of 2003) to the warmer winter (start of 2004).”
Some good news for importers, though:
“Killer 7’s dialogue is in English”
And lots more details about the game:
‘The game is about a hitman. Well, seven hitmen confronting a common enemy called Heaven Smile, who is capable of changing shape by touching people. He’s in the US, and the seven hitmen are dispatched to kill him.’
This manifests itself as the hero having seven lives, as he can switch between the assassins at any point. To switch, he must find a TV, where each of his forms corresponds to a channel.”
“[The footage shown so far] implies a shooting game, but Killer 7 is more than that. ‘You might get that idea because of the way we have shown the game so far, but it is very much an adventure game,’ say Horiyuki-san, before [Grasshopper Manufacture director Goichi] Suda-san interrupts: ‘But it does have the action element, where you shoot your enemies in realtime, not like an RPG with turn-based combat. All the hitmen have different weapons … One has a sniper rifle, one a machine gun, one a rocket launcher...’”
“While Killer 7 is an adventure game, movement is not freeform, but confined to a single button that instructs the player to follow a path which regularly branches in different directions. ‘I’m very proud of the travel system inside the game,’ says Suda-san. ‘It’s like a racing game. You push the acceleration button so that your character speeds up. When you arrive at a spot with a choice of directions, arrows appear and you just need to choose the direction where you want to go. The game camera and travel systems are two of the most important features of the game.’”
“The goal is to locate an enemy which is also capable of changing form, using sound – specifically the enemy’s laugh – as a guide. ‘Yes, you get frustrated hearing this enemy laughing at you!’ exclaims Horiyuki-san with glee. When the player believes the enemy is close, they can trigger a battle sequence. ‘You can fire at will,’ points out Suda, ‘there’s no ammo limitation. Well, you need to reload, but that’s just to make the game better.’”
“It’s a violent game … ‘We were asked about the purpose of the game,’ says Horiyuki-san. ‘But we only had one critic, someone from Europe who asked us not to kill a Christian priest onscreen. Nintendo was not opposed, as I think it knew what our intentions were from our work on Biohazard GC.’”
Plenty of interesting new info! Roll on new year!

OMG THE TRUTH COMES OUT! Nintendo wants to kill Christian priests!!!!!
one of them touched mario when he was a kid :( its all about the revenge
Sounds like a new gameplay style that has the ability to be great if done correctly. Very much looking forward to this game :)
Killing Christian priests? :wtf:Quote:

First of all, the whole joke lies in the "Christian priests" phrase. There's no such thing as a generalized "Christian priest." All of two denominations have priests, the Catholics and Orthodox, which is why I found the statement funny in the first place. There's no such thing as a Christian priest.
Second, I agree. Catholic priests have been found to be much more heinous individuals, statistically, than your average murderer or ner-do-well. If it were obviously perverted priests we were shooting, I say go ahead. But I doubt that's the kind of priest we're talking about here.
Are catholics not christian? I don't understand what you're saying.Quote:

Catholics are Christians, indeed. However, whenever someone says "priest," they are speaking exclusively. "Christians" can be Catholic, Orthodox, Methodist, Presbiterian, Non-Denominational, etc. Priests are not members of every Christian sect. Thus, the term "Christian Priest" is misapplied. Reverand would have been a better term.Quote:

I just don't like it when people put those who "work" for god above others, as if they are somehow better. Its pretty obvious to me that they aren't.Quote:

Understood, but it is because they are Christians, and they are also priests. They are priests that are Christian, but not "Christian priests." They are not "priests of the Christian faith," as they are only found in two such denominations.Quote:

To be honest, I don't give a crap one way or the other. If it's part of the story, fine. People get shot all the time, man. What's the difference if it's a priest or a plumber? Not to mention the fact that since it is a priest, there will be much more impact concerning the issue. A killer who kills a plumber is just a killer, but boy-O-boy! A killer who is depraved enough to kill a priest? You see what I mean? Much more emotional impact. More emotional impact = good.Quote:

Not trying to get technical on you, because I actually chuckled to myself when I originally read that. :)Quote:

what the hell, i thought i clicked on the Killer 7 thread?
anyways, Kinopio makes a good point about the game not having any censorship.
I didn't say there was a difference between a plumber and a priest. to me, there isn't. I was just talking about how it pisses me off when someone like the person they mentioned told them they shouldn't kill a priest in the game, even though i'm sure a bunch of "regular" people can be killed in the game.Quote:

Coolest F'n Trailer Ever!!
June 2004 release in japan.
so i guess we can expect a fall 2004 release for sure now.
niceness
The art style reminds me of halfway between "Out of this World/Another World" and the filmclip for "Go with the Flow" by the Queens of the Stoneage.
I like the way all forms (even Kaeda Sumisu) look like different versions of the same person, it's really cool.
does that demo game go anywhere?
or do you endlessly shoot apart laughing zombies and their floating scapulas?
Magicbox-
Capcom announced they will release a PlayStation 2 version of Killer 7 in Japan and US this winter, the game was previously exclusive to GameCube, now it is coming to both platforms simultaneously.
What does "this winter?"
Like in two months, or in 12?
winter 2004 for North America and Japan and early 2005 for Europe according to the official website.Quote:

Yeah, it's good for the game to be on as many consoles as possible. I'm really suprised they didn't do this for Viewtiful Joe as well. Anyway, I think I'll buy the GameCube version since it was originally developed for it.
Hmm, I wonder why Capcom hyped this up as the "Capcom 5" or whatever the fuck, especially for Nintendo, and then went back and changed their mind? Just like how Outbreak is coming to the PS2 even though RE was supposed to be exclusive to PS2.
I thinketh that these games are selling like shite on GameCube and Capcom is getting fed up.
RE:Outbreak was in development long before the Nintendo deal. Flagship and related development teams have been in love with Nintendo ever since the Zelda oracles, the "frustration" would only be coming from management.
Technically speaking, this is winter 2004.Quote:

But their sales aren't so bad: RE0 sold ~340,000 units and REmake ~220,000 in Japan whereas RE Code:Veronica sold ~380,000 and outbreak ~260,000, which considering the differences in user-base (both in number and in age) is more than honest.Quote:

Which leave RE2, RE3, REC:VX (but I don't know why Capcom thought those would sell well), PN03 (which is a niche game to begin with) and Gotcha Force as "underperformers" in Capcom's GC exclusive.
Overall, I don't find the sales that bad, even thought they would indeniably have been higher on PS2.

Guess we should get rid of the Gamecube symbol next to this thread.
Heh. Go Capcom. The GameCube, in my ever so humble opinion, has gone from gold to garbage. Capcom should kick it to the curb.
Maybe. But even if your game sold a million copies on the Gamecube... you'd still be wondering if you could have doubled that amount if you had released it for the PS2 or Xbox as well... it's just smart business I guess.Quote:

Uh, andrew, it IS coming to PS2 now. So the devs don't have to wonder anymore.
I know. I was just explaining a bit of the business logic behind a decision like this...
They could of also looked at Viewtiful Joe as a minor risk. Just a niche game to make a few million for their bottom line while a game like Killer 7 has more invested interest behind it from the company. So they'd expand the audience to, potentially, increase the return on a product that they pumped money in.
It's crazy. Unless you meant Viewtiful Joe is multiplatform now too... in which case I did not know.
Heh well the fact remains that at least for the moment ,Killer 7 is STILL Exclusive to Gamecube in the USA :D (only for PS2 IN JAPAN HAH!)
What, did the PS2 rape you or something?
:DQuote:

I really hate my fellow cube owners sometimes. It's like they reallydo conciously avoid multiplatform titles, and only get excited about exclusives.
If you're still talking about RE Outbreak, it was announced for PS2 ages ago because it's online and no sane company would release an online Cube title.Quote:

It's stale and needs to be reworked. 4 will probably do this.
I personally think more titles should be multiplatform as long as the developers put 100% of their effort into all versions. With the ones that are multiplatform I usually buy the GC version just to support the console, unless it's the worst of the three, which it usually isn't. GC needs all the help it can get. I don't have an XBox so that's not an option yet.Quote:

And they never put 100% effort in to each version. They usually have a smaller team doing the ports and one is always worse than the other. Multiplatform doesn't help the Cube. People buy Nintendo games because they can get Nintendo-exclusive games on the system. PS2 has the largest selection, so if people wanted to have a bunch of multiplatform games they'd take the console with the most of them anyway (PS2)
Talk about falling off the radar.
I figured to be knee-deep in the import by now.
I have a bad feeling about this one.
i think you're right. *cry*
LOL, yeah I caught an article on IGN and was going to post it but I was too tired. I'm still afraid the gameplay won't be as engaging as I'm hoping for.Quote:

Viewtiful Joe 2

Yeah, so Capcom owns 2004.
You mean 2005 right?Quote:

I have no patience.
So now it's spring '05.
I can't believe this game is still in development. I hope the've decide to add lightgun support by now
new screens
Yeah I am really suprised as well, more power to them. I am still interested in the game, but not in the same way I was when it was first announced.
Yeah, I think most of us are bracing ourselves for a let down. I was talking with a friend and I said, "well, even if it sucks, at least we'll Okami should rock."
when is Okami coming here
I don't think it is.
EB doesn't have Okami listed on their site. It's my most wanted game right now so I will be pissed if it doesn't come here. Capcom better not use poor VJ2 and Under the Skin sales as an excuse not to bring it here.
The worst part is that I'll still wait a month after release for a price drop.
It was announced for all territories a while back, but there isn't a firm release date for it, even for Japan. Okami apparently went through some development problems where they had to change a lot of things that just weren't working so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.Quote:

Looks interesting, but I wonder if it will play well.
That video makes very little sense.
I thought he said the hate that comes from your grudge? I donno, tough to hear. Im all over this game. Super weird madness is A-OK with me. Its not often we see games like this in the US.Quote:

I've been waiting for this game to be released for a long time and I hope Capcom didn't screw this game up. Judging from their previous game, RE4, I'll be looking forward to playing this.

This game looks like total fucking garbage. Seriously. Now I know why Capcom waited so long to release actual in-game pics. Because it looks like some damn SuperFX chip bullshit.
Dif is entirely spot on. SuperFX chip with some extra memory. I really need to see a video of this though.
Oh wow, that's not very good stylization.
The only thing that videos will show you is the extremely choppy and terrible animation of all the characters.Quote:

Still, I've been following it for a while- hopefully it'll surprise me.
Nice visual style, but does anyone even care about this game after all of the delays?
What the fuck happened?
This looked dece in earlier pics.
I'm pretty sure the "action" segments play like a light-gun game without the light-gun.Quote:

and about the jaggies - maybe those are screenshots from the PS2 rev.
anyway, its goin to be funny when this game comes out - 'cause right now, none of us know what to expect.
For anyone who hasn't seen the trailers, it looks a lot smoother and more interesting in action...

The trailer is OK. Doesn't sell me on the game at full price, though.
I really think someone is up with this game, as its the only one that Capcom made everyone sign NDAs for an unknown amount of time since their last gamer's day. That's never a good sign. You would think they'd want gameplay impressions to finally go out after so long.
i was interested in this game when it didn't look like a pile of shit. what happened to those nice early shots?
If anything, the trailer has the exact opposite effect it's supposed to.
Capcom can call it stylized presentation all they want, the gameplay looks like crap in motion. i mean how the fuck do you play the damn game?
