the super spy sucked. the difference between a first person shooter and first person beat em up is that in an fps everyone is shooting at you...from a distance. you can easily turn around and SHOOT back. in this first person beat em up they're kicking you in the back and you're going to be able to turn around? DOUBT IT!!!

Just because this is a FPS "beat-em-up" it doesn't have to follow all the traditional rules of the genre.
For example, just because all 2D sidescrolling beat-em-ups had a ton of enemies, a FPS wouldn't neccesarily have to.
They could make the combat system really deep, and have it focus on only fighting two to four enemies at a time. That way you could control the flow of combat alot better, therefore avoiding the "OMG CAN'T TURNAROUND" Delta syndrome.
I understand you're filled with negativity, angst, and all around distrust for the gaming industry. And let's be honest they did kill your family afterall, but sometimes a little optimism goes a long way.
Just a couple of thoughts.
I don't think they scrapped the orriginal FP beat em up idea. From the time the first screens were shown the female player had a gun and the male player had a glowing fist. I'm guessing that the screen shown with the FPS style gun is showing the female gameplay and the male gameplay remains the beat em up.
well dead to rights was a welcome surprise and if they've got the same team working on this game, i'll be all over it like white on rice!
