You could get one of newer Android phones for a good price, don't know why you'd really want to go with a G1 at this point. If you have a contract with Verizon check and see if you are due for a new phone. You get an additional 50-100 off right away for resigning.
My Verizon contract has been expired for a long time now, Verizon has been trying to get me to upgrade my phone with a new contract for about a year and a half. The main reasons I'm thinking G1 is price - the Droid is $300 out of pocket, and Verizon doesn't have unlimited data (which may change soon, but if it's not unlimited it's useless to me.) The G1 is $130 out of pocket with a 2 year contract. *edit* The phone is now $50 on Amazon.
On the flip side, I can afford the extra money for the phone without any trouble, but Jesus, $300 for a phone? To me that's silly. Then again, I have a Neo Geo collection so my percieved value of the dollar may be a bit off.
I heard the $100 rebate on Droid is going to be an instant rebate at Best Buy.
In the end it'll be significantly less than $300. Stormy is correct, BB is doing an instant 100 off instead of the mail in. Since they do Verizon contracts, you should get the new every 2 deal too.Quote:

Verizon has another Android phone coming out the same time for $99--I'm not sure how it compares spec-wise with the T-Mobile G1 but it looks a lot nicer. I wouldn't be too worried about the initial price, though--it's the data plan that'll eventually cost way more than any phone.
That T-Mobile unlimited plan sounds pretty reasonable. Sprint has similar pricing. Both have an Android phone or two.
