Well Cyanogenmod in particuar actually has a list of officially supported devices that will get updates, automatic updates via wireless connection, etc. While the initial switch may be a "hassle", I think it's a more elegant long term solution than you might be giving it credit for, which is why I singled out Cyanogenmod.
Really digging my Droid 3 at the 3 day mark. Take the original Droid, gut it and replace everything with The Greatest Shit and there ya go. Set up ruled, gave it my gmail info and it downloaded and installed all my apps. After doing some settings tweaks I'm currently at 13h 11m since last charge and at 60% battery. It has been a light usage day with that though. The phone just whips through everything with no hesitation (camera does take longer to load than I'd like, haven't used it much yet but the pics I've taken look pretty sweet). The 4" screen is just gorgeous and super responsive. Swype is cool as shit, first time I've used it. Plus the slide out keyboard isn't shit pressed to plastic! It's slightly longer than the first Droid, all the other dimensions are the same but it feels like it weighs about half (OG was a porker). Paid 160 out of pocket, 130 after rebate and I'm still rocking my unlimited data plan.
Is it too late to believe the aformentioned news?Quote:

How is the Motoblur or whatever the fuck they are calling what they put on the D3? My son has the D2 Global and though some of the features are nice, I still prefer vanilla Android by a large margin. Swype is pretty fantastic though. I've been using it on my Droid for about the past 6 months or so and I recently installed it on my Asus Tablet.
I don't know about Motoblur on other phones, but it seems like a basic skin. The biggest difference is the menus/notification bar are blue. The unlock screen is slightly altered but functions exactly the same. In fact the whole phone operates the same way the OG does. Menus are in the same place, I've found everything where it was before so it's very familiar. It doesn't get in the way and it certainly isn't hogging resources. It's got 5 homescreens, instead of scrolling down in the app drawer, you go left and right. There's a widget that lets you pin your 4 most used contacts to the home screen, swipe down on it and it expand to show 20 if them (shown by their contact picture and name right below it. Some other slightly different things like a new weather widget, one from VRZ that lets you see how much data/txts you've used easily.
Another plus: First time I've gotten a new phone and uses the same exact charges for it, which rules. Mini USB. Other thing I forgot to mention is that the speaker doesn't seem as loud or clear (but phone call quality is fantastic, blue tooth too).
Holy shit why have I not been using swype all this time?
What's Swype? Is it available for BB?
Does anyone have a solid release date for the Evo 4G+? It has an awesome enough camera at 8MP so I don't go and waste $300 on a Nikon Coolpix P-300.
Instead of tapping each key on your digital keyboard, you slide your finger to each letter. There's even a trace on-screen so you know you're hitting the right keys. Way faster, but I just stick to traditionally tapping keys.
I rock an HTC Desire HD and love it. Bright, vibrant 4.3' screen, Google integrated and a great Android phone overall. It supports HTC Sense, so if I ever lose it, I can lock it remotely from anywhere, which is nice.
Battery life is pretty poor and lasts a day/day and a half, but I'm near a charger either at work or at home, so it rarely ever dies.
