Nortell carries most of the signal for most cellular carriers in the world, verizon is nortells largest customer and has locked out all other companies from buying direct. So what happens is that the big V leases out the equipment inside of every tower they have (for instance Ohio has over 500) to sprint and AT&T because they can't buy direct. Also, if you have a nortell device in a rack at a sprint tower, david bruns and group has to repair/replace the equipment. So, yes, essentially verizon is carrying your signal whether you like to admit it or not.

Unless you work in construction or delivery or something, that doot-doot is handy. Other than that, useless. Reception (for me) was horrible not to mention texting.

VZ has great customer service let a lone their service in general. I have no complaints. Having used Nextel, T-Mobile, AT&T and VZ, VZ wins hands down. Its pricey compared to others but well worth it.

It seems its going to be replacing the Curve 83xx. Screen isnt as good as the current BB's. May be used for prepaid. No one knows.

Also, AT&T is getting the 8900 and should be available summertime.

Gettin a new phone next week and I've done zero research. I want something that's fairly easy to browse the net with but not as expensive/not the iphone, and service recommendations. I've been with at&t for a while.

I might go sans data and hook up with metropcs if anyone has any good stories about them.

The idea of unlimited talk and text for 40/mo with no contract is immensely appealing.

You are talking about the air to network interface. There is a lot more involved in the backend from that.

SMS runs from the phone, to the tower, the nortel box over to the network via a bunch of OC12 pipes to the carrier, then the carrier has servers that actually process the SMS traffic and send it to the recipents. These servers are what is getting hammered in Sprintland. Verizon knows whats going on because these servers all have to talk to one another for inter-network SMSing and you can get status reports from people who make sure this shit works all day.
