Yeah, you need the data plan.
But it also uses wifi.
Essentially it's a tiny computer. Does flawless full-screen movies too if you want to rip some DVDs.

does it phase every scanline 120 degrees?
Ho hum I guess I'll throw my phone into this. Nokia 5310. Its a music phone, has a 3.5mm jack, side controls for music and a dedicated music processor.
Downside? s40 OS means only j2me apps and multitasking is limited to whatever app you have open + music. But it does those two very well. I bought it from Tmobile, which is an okay provider, but the phone was crippled with branded software that hasn't been updated in ages. Tmobile has a $10 unlimited dataplan for this phone and it tethers easily via blue tooth with decent transfer rates over gsm/evo
10 minutes of google and my phone was debranded and updated from nokia. Now has google maps, google mail app, syncs with ical/contacts, has Opera mini with 8gb for music. Phone with plan is free-$50 depending where you go and it averages about 45-55 a month.
Oh be warned, the camera is shit. 2.0mp is a lie.
Overall a decent phone for a student, cheap, more or less bullet proof (survived my bikefail, 4 semesters in a bag/pocket, being smashed in a car door and ferret theft), sdmicro accepted and the dataplan is right when you just cannot find wifi around. Battery life is decent at 2-3 days depending on how much music you listen to.
I really want a BlackBerry Tour after fucking around with it today. The problem is that I want to stay with Verizon. I saw that they offered the Tour but their data plan is different for BlackBerries than for other phones.
Wildkat, what gives?
Don't Blackberries have their own data plans no matter what the carrier?
Still loving the EnV Touch, BTW. Yeah, the battery life could be better, but otherwise it rocks.
Wildcat, is Verizon getting one of those wacky HTC handsets soon? I've been reading that a bunch of phones are hitting in October.
They do on Verizon and it isn't as bad as it was but they still make you pay for texts separately. Sprint has the same phone for $50 more but their $70/mo. plan covers EVERYTHING with unlimited data and texts. If I wanted that with Verizon it's extra so it comes out to about $100/mo.
I've been on Sprint since June now, no complaints. I had Verizon before.
I've had both and Verizon shits on Sprint in New York. I have the guy on the phone right now trying to keep me in Verizon but we'll see what happens.
LOL dropped call. Fuck me.
