Kingdom Hearts II & Chain of Memories

In an effort to get TNL readers to start official threads for games even earlier than before, heres a thread for the new Kingdom Hearts games which I am very excited for-

Kingdom Hearts II (PS2) - It's the sequel that was supposed to be a PS3 game (lolrumors)! If the official art is any indication, then Kingdom Hearts II is gonna be FREAKY! Trenchcoat Mickey? Word.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memory (GBA) - Yeah, who saw this one coming? It's lookin pretty interesting. I'll definetly be getting this even though it's actually pretty hard to get me to buy a GBA game. The last game I bought was Wario Ware and Im not even sure if I want Mario Advance 4. Weird.

So for as much as I hate console RPGs, I love Kingdom Hearts. It really helps that I'm a whore for anything thats Disney (Minus The Proud Family) and that I love the character designs. I just really hope they keep focusing on the Disney side of things so I don't have to start whining about how Square got their Final Fantasy in my Lion King :(

Anybody else notice the statue of Sora is holding 2 Keyblades?

I wish they would make an animated film using these darker Disney designs. An Anime/Disney OVA series perhaps?

I've heard all sorts of rumors that Disney is working towards creating some kind of Kingdom Hearts show in Japan. And after all these new announcements, I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Could be cool.

As for the games, consider me excited (at least for the sequel... GBA one I need to see more of). That trailer from the end of Final Mix is just too cool (or as cool as something with hoody Mickey can be I guess). I'm one of the people that would like to see more Square stuff in these games. I'm cool with the Disney stuff too, as long as it makes sense and they do a better job at immersing you in their worlds (so Wonderland is four box shaped rooms huh? I didn't imagine it like that...).

Chux- What statue are you referring to? I can't seem to find it...

About the two Keyblades:
The Keyblade he's got over his shoulder is the one Mickey was using at the end of the game. The one he's got by his side is his own.

I think that's a really cool statue. He's sporting his new duds, and I like the much darker, more serious tone that this game looks like it's using. Not that the first one wasn't dark and serious. As a matter of fact, the first time I played it I was supprised at the amount of heaviosity due to the Disney name.

I can't wait for this to come out, and in the mean time I'mma see if I can't buy one of those statues.

Yeah, I am looking forward KH2 as well. First was a very entertaining, and that Deep Dive video that previewed KH2 was awesome :p

Why they even bothered posting those, I have no idea. People are much better off looking at the screenshots and artwork released then those 15 second clips.

It's a shame Square Enix hasn't really embraced the idea of releasing trailers online quickly after they're first shown at trade shows and what not. At least it doesn't seem that way to me.

Which means 2 years before the American release.

My sister was excited when she heard Kingdom Hearts II was announced. What i"m wondering is where there be any rewards for having saved data from the previous game.

I'm definately excited about this game, I loved the first one and the sequel looks kick ass :)

I have 3 vinyl statues from the first one (though I've yet to pick up the figures :p), they are pretty cool looking :D

Kingdom Hearts was setup like this:

Main character - Sora: Square
Supporting battle characters - Misc. Disney characters
Worlds - Primarily Disney

How I'd like Kingdom Hearts II setup:

Main character - Mickey: Disney
Supporting battle characters - Misc. Square characters
Worlds - Primarily Square

Where'd you get the statues, Werewolf?

Can anyone confirm this: I've heard that the GBA KH will be the sequel to the original KH, and the PS2 KH will be 6 years after that.

Is that true?

I got them some time ago, shortly after the game was released in the USA from some online store (I'll have to look it up), it is a 3 pack of vinyl figures, Sora, Riku and Kairi and is supposed to be limited to 3 or 5,000 sets I think... I have #2,446 :)

If you're interested I can look around and see if I can find some for you? :)

Woah! I keeps getting better and better! I really dig Sora's new look (in the PS2 screens), along with the new look of the Shadows.

I'm extremely interested in the GBA title. Look at it! It's got to be the best looking GBA game to date, and I've yet to even see it in motion.

I see that in one of those pictures it looks like Cloud joins your party! Neat-O!

It also looks like one of the hooded figures from KH II is in one of those shots, which might lend creedance to what I mentioned earlier, about the GBA title being the sequel to KH, and Chain of Memories being the GBA game's sequel. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Also, I wonder what that big, white, robot looking thing is . . .

And oh my god..Chain of Memories looks amazing. I rarely buy GBA games so I'll probably buy like 10 copies to make up for it.

It would be nice to see a lot more Disney and a lot more Square beyond just Nomura's characters. I also think the whole dark atmosphere that permeated Deep Dive was over the top, and the series should stay bright and light hearted.

I don't know what Kingdom Hearts you're talking about, but the one I played had some damned dark themes. Suprisingly so, being a Disney game and all. Straight from Sora's opening monologue it hits me like a ton of bricks. It's a very, very dark themed game, but with very light-hearted, whimsical visuals. Maybe that's why you're getting all confused? ;)

I believe you were confused by Billy Zane saying "dark" or "darkness" about 5872 times in the last hour of the game. The dark themes are laughably over the top, and anyway, evil characters have been pretty common in Disney movies.

Kingdom Hearts is pretty light hearted, but just underneath it's surface is a very dark theme. DAAAAAARK!

If Kingdom Hearts has a dark theme, so does Sleeping Beauty.

Yes, evil characters have been common in Disney movies, but they're static personallities. They were never good in their lives, and they would never change. Ansem was a good king, who transitioned into a dark, dark man. Granted we don't actually see the transition; the best we got were his journal pages, but I don't think that it cheapens the theme at all.

There's also Sora's introspection in the begining of the game: "Is any of this for real . . . or not?" That's one Hell of a question to open up a "light-hearted" game with. It's philosophical, and not only that, but it's the darker side of philosophy. Existence. He's questioning his own existence! His emotions for Kairi, his friendship with Riku, etc.

And then there's Riku. A friend turned twisted puppet subject to the manipulation of a darker, more evil entity.

It's rife with dark, mature, seedy themes. Just because you're swinging on vines with Tarzan and swimming through the ocean with Ariel doesn't make it any less dark.

Yes. Diamond Weapon, but it was a lot more bulky than this thing. And there's that symbol on it's face to consider as well. I doesn't look like the barbed-wire heartless heart, and I'm sure it's not some kind of face marking. Meh, I could be wrong.
