Max Anime now officially open...

After an a long and extensive hiatus of pondering, setbacks, and otaku fever - Max Anime is finally live. Currently the content is low, but the foundation is there and I expect a lot of great achievements and fun to come of it. This wouldn't be possible without the support of Nick, Lhadatt and most especially, the new core of writers which have each played an essential part in giving life to this new platform for entertainment.

Some of our existing forum regulars are also on board and may be familiar to you including Ragnarok, so to some extent, the new site is being kept "in the family". Take a brief moment to drop over there, and if you're a anime fan, sign up on the boards, show your support and stay tuned for more!

i dont know if its just me, but none of the images show up, just a bunch of red x's..

So, what the hell's gonna happen to this section of TNL? Is it just gonna migrate to MaxAnime?

It isn't just you. This problem has been a bit of a head-scratcher for me, as it's been nigh-impossible to reproduce. I experienced a similar problem with the table-background images using IE5 (Mac OS9.2.2) once and only once. Dumping the cache and restarting IE appeared to fix the problem. "Zenigata" (as he's known here) had problems loading any of the images for a while, but shortly thereafter, as if by magic, the problem resolved itself.

Using logic, I deduce that this is either a connection issue (as the problem would be universal were it a server problem, which it isn't), or it has something to do with Internet Explorer's image caching.

I'm going to get blunt with my HTML and say "to hell with W3C Compliance" (as an aside, W3C compliance, in theory, is an extremely useful thing to have. In practice, however, it's caused far more trouble than it's worth. I bent over backwards to earn XHTML 1.0 Strict certification for Max Anime, only later to discover that it was responsible for my misaligned tables, broken images, and CSS errors. So, until browsers start living up to the current standards, web developers, along with the well-intended people at the W3C, are wasting their time.) by way of adding background attributes to all of the tables. Perhaps the theorized problem with image caching is somehow triggered by the current use of CSS-- though it wouldn't explain why all of the images are failing to load for you. Worth a shot, though.

Ideas? Perhaps there's someone around here who knows the current crop of web browsers down to the molecular level.

To Rtificial, from the earlier thread: Yes, Manga reviews are planned to make an appearance somewhere down the line on Max Anime.

At long last. Thank you TNL and MaxAnime staff for making this possible. I'll look forward to some good reviews editorials and news. :D

Sharp site. Unusual color scheme though, but it helps the site stand out. I like it. Good work, guys. :)

I didn't have no image trouble when I checked it out.

Yay, finally a place for manga reviews. We been pretty much doing our own for awhile in the anime section and a word of mouth kinda thing.

You're on a Mac. You are immune to PC browser problems. :p

The problem is IE6 on Windows. Every once and a while, it will go bonkers with MXA's main page and refuse to load the images. I believe this is a cache problem. Try clicking on one of the links to another section and you'll probably get the page to load fine. Go back to the main page and it will load the images this time. I've never seen this happen before on IE; but it never happens on Mozilla/Firebird, which indicates that it is an IE-only problem.

Public service announcement: Ditch IE. Download Mozilla, Mozilla Firebird, Opera or any other browser that is not IE-based. IE7 will not hit until 2005 -- you'll ditch it when more sites start displaying errors with IE, so you might as well stop using it now.

I seem to have the problem only when selecting Max Anime from the drop down URL list. If I type it out or click a link to it, it doesn't happen. Also, it doesn't happen in Mozilla. So, yeah, it's definitely IE being stupid.

Why the decision to maintain seperate forums?

Nice layout. Like Dolemite said, an unusual color scheme but it works. I look foward to see how the site evolves!

I don't know if they want to integrate forums, but it would seem only logical now to either use ours, or simply kill the one that exists here off.

In the meantime...I invite all our anime fans to sign up at their forums and show the same support and interaction as you've done here.

I expect that our anime section may be killed off (or simply renamed). stay tuned.

That layout has "spiffy" written all over it. Me likes.

Maybe rename the anime forum, but keep it.

Technically, it would be difficult to transfer the threads here over to the new MXA boards.

Karasu and I were pondering this as well. We were thinking keep the “Max Anime” link, but have it lead to our forum index. And, if possible, we could do the same with a “Gaming” link. We should get together and discuss. :)

Overall, I like the site a lot even if it's very... orange. ;)

For the boards, I think they should remain seperate, but some sort of link gateway between the two would be neat if possible.

There are some nice impressions that I'd like to be able to look up later.

There are no plans currently to kill off our version of the anime forums. And it seems wrong to simply terminate the name, despite the fact that MXA also has their genearl forum under the same label.
