If the employees signed a non-compete clause in their contract, legally they're screwed.
I hate EA, they are like the Yankees of the video game world.
It's the guys' faults for signing the contract, but I think the fact that it exists in the first place (even if it is only for a year) is such typical big industry chokehold bullshit.
Which is too bad since Ubi Soft is so likeable.
Ubi Soft can legally forbid their employees from working with other gamemakers, but typically they can only do so for either a) a limited time or b) within a limited geographic area of competition (but since the nature of software competition is global, this isn't much of a restriction).
At least this is the case with most US jurisdictions. I have no idea how Canadians handle things.
I agree with Sqoon, I like Ubi Soft a lot and am sorry to see them resorting to these tactics.

I don't know how the legal case would go, but generally speaking I think a contract should be a contract. If they signed it and agreed to it then it should be that simple.
I don't really care one way or the other. I'm not a fan of these types of games. :p

Smart decision putting that in a contract. Don't want your key people to bail at a shit time on one of your biggest titles.
