I put in an application at Best Buy the other day and I just got a call today (wasn't home though :curse: ) so I assume it was for an interview. Does any one have experience working at Best Buy or know someone who does/did? Have you heard good or bad things? Etc.
Everytime I go I don't see a lot of the same faces which is a bad sign :confused:
I'm pretty sure they don't work for commission. It's retail so no matter how you look at it, it's going to suck (and it's about as corporate as you can get, so that's no fun either.)
They've got the best discounts for their employees, and the hourly rates are also good. Though I've heard numerous rumblings from people who have worked there (or know others that do). Apparently the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Well, as long as you're happy there (and you're working, that's all that matters).
Well, I might try apply as well, if I wont find a job soon. It is kinda far away about 8 miles from where I live though.
My friend used to... he had to do like 3 weeks of training before he started working. It was alright.
It's a job, you know? Guess it could also depend on who you're working with.
Work there for the discount.
Buy lots of stuff.
Quit.
Sell all the stuff on ebay.
It's not bad. It's a job. I'm lucky to work with a lot of cool people, and a lot of hot girls, so it's worth it. You won't work on commission, and they've come a long ways over the past few months as far as making it a better place to work.
I don't love my job, but I've had a LOT worse jobs.

I still have nighmares of working at that place. Literally. But most of my issues was with my head manager, not with Best Buy itself.
Overall I don't think it's a bad job, the problem is the pressure to sell PSP and PRP's and the fact that they never give you enough people to actually work the floor, which means aside from your 30 min lunch break, you get no breathers during the day.
In reflection, I think working Media instead of PCHO would have been cool for me.
The discount rules all. If you decide to work there, use and abuse it. And hook me up with some cabling too.
Check out www.bestbuysux.org and browse the employee section, that will tell you the worst you may have to deal with. Most stores aren't that hard on the employees though, but you get the idea.
But hey, I'd say go for the interview, if the boss seems like an ass, tell him to shove it. If it he seems cool, go for it, you can always quit later. Worst case scenario, you still make out like a bandit with the employee discount.
When it comes to pay-the store manager is authorized to give you however the hell much money he thinks you are worth. Part timers at my store made anywhere from $7.50 an hour to $11.00 an hour. Qualifications didn't seem to matter at all, it was more like how much they thought they could get you for. It would be difficult to bargain right now though, with so many people looking for jobs.
