November OXM demos

Demos:

1. Prince of Persia (Played it quite a bit. A little rough still, but some brilliant animation, tons of cool moves, and it looks like there will be challenge a plenty. This one will get talked about.)

2. Conflict Desert Storm II - Back to Baghdad (Tried it. Ugh. Awkward controls, and not great looking, and dull combat. Frankly, I'd rather play Brute Force than this.)

3. NCAA Football 2004 (People who want this have already bought it, no?)

4. Freedom Fighters (One quick play. Very clean, but I confess I didn't try to figure much out. May well be better than I thought.)

5. Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds

6. Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure (My oldest daughter liked it well enough. Heck, I even gave it a few tries. THUG for the younger set.)

7. NFL Fever 2004

8. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 (If you like golf, this is where it's at.)

Video Features:
Full Spectrum Warrior, NFL Street, Sega GT Music. I only checked out FSW, and I must say, it's pretty damn impressive. It showed a walkthrough with one of the developers controlling 2 squads through a war-torn Middle Eastern/East African town. Tense.

Video Showcase:

Backyard Wrestling; Grabbed by the Ghoulies; Legacy of Kain: Defiance; Mission Impossible: Operation Surma. Checked out Ghoulies -- polished, but no thanks. Mission Impossible seemed like a very mediocre amalgam of every Medal of Honor-James Bond-Tom Clancy FPS that I've ever played.

Hmm, Not very impressive demo selection :(

I got Prince of Persia PS2 demo, and the game is pretty good.

Did anyone find the Prince of Persia demo super-choppy?

The demo rev was a bit chunky -- "stuttering" may be more accurate. I'm optimistically attributing that to the purportedly early build. One thing I didn't care for: the (very) short spurts of action are broken up repeatedly by cut-scenes -- cut-scenes that you can't skip. Same thing for retries after an untimely death. Very irritating. Of course, that may well be changed in the final rev.

I'm hearing that Links 2004 for the Xbox may give it a run for it's money, and it's definately superior in the online department.....

....also hearing really good things about Top Spin. Good, exclusive, 1st party Xbox games ( and there's more coming too.. mmmm Rallisport2 ), how 'bout that?!

Wow, you mean they have more than 2 demos! Seems like the demo selection is improving. Six last month and now eight, not bad.

I just wanted to say that i was putting my demos in slimline DVD cases before they all started coming that way.

It's the most fun I've had with a Neversoft skating game since Tony Hawk 2. The game is just damn FUN. There is no better way to describe it and actually got me excited about THUG being released. I mean, I was always planning on buying it but it was never a total must have. This game has made me love Neversoft all over again.

Yes there are. I was remiss. Wolfenstein (all maps, plus Wolfenstein 3D); Morrowind (frankly, I didn't even understand what the download was, but I guess it's something good); Indiana Jones (all levels and some secret stuff); Buffy (all levels and more secret stuff); XIII (4 jazzy tunes).

Next month's demo to include Rainbow Six 3. Sweet, but I won't be able to wait that long.

It's actually just 4 tunes ( .wma's I suppose ) from that game that can be played from the dash or any soundtrack-supported title - I think that's a great idea. They should start promoting the artists on the indie labels Microsoft has deals with on a monthly basis.

I finally got my mag today. Freedom Fighters seems cool. I'll be buying that tonight. Conflict is better than the last one, but thats not saying much. I'll rent it to play the 3-4 co-op mode. My Prince of Persia runs fine. I think the disc is just kinda shitty. My box kinda chokes on it. Persia seems good. I wont be buying it since I'm rather sick of the puzzle action games. The combat seemed just ok I though. I liked being able to run across walls. Didnt care much for the staking the baddies ala Buffy though. Graphics were really nice though. The other demos are just blah.

Videos of Full Spectrum Warrior make it look REAL promising. Legacy of Kain looks really badass too. I most likely buy that now. I looks really damn good. More action, less puzzles. Sign my ass up.

I highly disagree. Links 2004 (XSN) is where it will be at if you like golf. Tiger is if you want something Flashy and moreorless unsatisfying.

My disc wouldn't boot at all, I was pissed. Just for the hell of it I tried the boiling trick ( bring water to a slight boil, submerge disc for 10 seconds or so ) and what do you know - I could see the film build-up on it. They don't always cleanse them properly at manufacturing, after boiling you can see crap on the disc that wasn't there to the naked eye - you wipe it off and the disc f'ing works.
