I said a lead black character as in a Mario/Sonic/Mega-man/Master Chief type of lead. DeeJay was just one face in a line-up and not a very memorable one at that. Besides, Balrog/M. Bison came before he did and the black dude from King of Fighters with the white mohawk who fights alongside Vanessa (wtf is his name?) is more recognized.

The only characters who come close to being the type of lead I'm speaking of is Adam from Streets of Rage, his little brother Skate/Eddie and Luther from the Sega Master System version of the arcade game Quartet (which coincedentally is also the first game to feature a male and female team). There has never been a real black lead in video games nor will there ever be until I start making my own video games.

I got my work cut out for me.

I thought you were being facetious. I can't think of the earliest instance of a black main character but there HAVE been ones.

Oh, shit. I forgot all about Mike LeRoy:sweat:, but that's probably because the Shadowman games sucked ass IMO.

Umm... What about Major Havoc, Atari's classic vector-based minigame-fest from 1983? Part breakout, part lode runner, part lunar lander, part... silpheed, I guess... great game.
