Damn... shirt or bobblehead...
What's HMD, anyway?
I just finished this game. Now I have to take on V-Rated.
You might have already known this, but I thought you haven't seen it...or have you?
I saw that in the new EGM
i think you need to beat it on the hardest level to unlock her?
i dont remember
ChaoofNee, I was just pointing out to Video that I knew he was completing a challenge for that Viewtiful Joe Street Team, and that he should get the t-shirt with the points earned. It was the only interesting item I saw (aside from the Maximo figure, which is too many points).Quote:

i already got the maximo figure when the game came out. i want the project justice keychain. ;)

Damn... does anyone have a picture of either the shirt or the bobble-head? Decisions, decisions...

IGNcube: What inspired you to create Viewtiful Joe?
Atsushi Inaba: When the idea started, I wanted a mixture of Japanese animation and American comic books. That was the basis, but we wanted to make a cool action game; something people haven't played before. That's how we started.
Why was GameCube your platform of choice?
Inaba-san: Actually, the GameCube was able to create the look we were really going after. It had just the right amount of flexibility to do everything we wanted to do with effects, all the particles on the screen, etc. Also we figured for Japan, as well as America, that GameCube had the kind of hardcore action gamers that would want to play the game, so it fit the target.
Why did you choose to make it 2D-style action instead of full 3D, when so many shy away from that these days?
Inaba-san: Well, when the project began we said we wanted to do a superhero game. Where do you see superheroes? Comic books. They're not 3D. They're 2D. They're pieces of paper. So with the 2D art, it was really the style we were going after. When you think about how people view 2D out there, especially on consoles, Viewtiful Joe is fresh and original.
So do you think there's a future for 2D games?
Inaba-san: I don't think 2D games will ever disappear 100%. But it's been around for a long time, and if you want people to play your game, you're going to have to do something original and new. A hook, something that makes it different, to make them say, "Man! I want that game." Because if it's the same as everything we've had up until now, they won't buy it.
Because it is so focused and stylized in the way of Japanese animation, do you think it has a good future in the United States?
Inaba-san: That's actually a really easy question! When we began making this game, we didn't think it was something that Americans would dislike. We made it in a way we hope it could sell anywhere. And we figured it was something the Americans can embrace. What it comes down to is if it's something they like, they'll buy it, and if they don't, they won't buy it and we can't make a second one. It's quite simple math! [laughs]
Are you making a second Viewtiful Joe?
Inaba-san: Of course, we are thinking it's the kind of game that's very good to do a sequel for. However, personally, I am very busy; even if I did want to make it I'm not sure I'd be able to right now. But I'll say this, that if it's the kind of game that sells no company would ever refuse to make a sequel to that game.
As a possible way to bolster sales, are you thinking of releasing it on other platforms?
Inaba-san: That hasn't been decided. Sales are key and we have to see how it does in America. If it's a stinker, we wouldn't release it for other platforms. We'll have to wait a while longer and find out what happens.
What does it mean to be Viewtiful? Is it just about the pink, or is there more?
Inaba-san: [laughs] Viewtiful symbolizes everything that Joe has. So, his moves are cool, he's cool -- he's viewtiful. I mean that not in a feminine way but a masculine way. Even with the pink as his color, it's viewtiful, and he can stand out and get the job done.
Do you think this pink will start a fashion trend?
Inaba-san: If it was really so popular that people were going to start a fashion trend based on my game, that would be great! But, honestly, I don't think American men or Japanese men are interested in dressing in more pink!
What other projects are you working on?
Inaba-san: Actually, I am working on other projects. I'm doing Gyakuten Saiban 3 for the Game Boy Advance. It's a courtroom game and it's been released in Japan before. It's actually doing really well at the show, but unfortunately I don't know if we'll ever bring it to a foreign market. As for new projects, well ... I can only tell you there is one in the works and to look for the announcement. It's fantastic. It's going to be great. Trust me, the Steel Battalion guy, to bring you something original and great. [smiles]
What's the status of Dead Phoenix?
Inaba-san: [stalls] Project Dead Phoenix? Hmm.
[covers mouth and begins to mutter]
Actually, the project I was talking about is not Dead Phoenix, and when you asked me what happened with Dead Phoenix my mouth closed shut, and I couldn't speak anymore! [covers mouth and laughs]
Is your new project for GameCube?
Inaba-san: Actually right now we're only in the planning phase. It really is going to be fantastic. Right now, though, we don't have any plans for which platform it will end up on.
Okay, they tell us that was our last question. Thanks for your time. We're big fans of Viewtiful Joe; thanks for creating something so original.
Inaba-san: Thank you.
I got my bobble heads today. :D
One of Joe, and one of Henshin Joe.
I was checking out the strat guide today, and it would seem there's a "Dante" cameo in the game, but I'll let you figure out who. ;)
Dammit! Another week...
Say, Cap'n Veggie, do the bobbleheads come in one box, or are the separate? I wanna make sure I get both, if I can...
Seperate. My store didn't even get any Henshin Joe. We needed to swap some with a store who did.
So... is one supposed to get both, or just one?
By the way, check this out: http://www.gamestop.com/gs/viewtiful/sweepstakes.asp
I think you're only supposed to get one. Luck of the draw.
That give-away is awesome! Too bad I can't participate, being an employee and all. :(
Bah. I'm-a gonna go tomorrow and beg for some dual-bobble action.
so the game apparently ships on Tuesday, 10/7... i ordered mine from capcom..
i hope it won't take too long to get here..
Argh! My store only got regular Joe! Damn I wanted a Henshin one too. =(
JM
So, JM, you know peoples from other stores, yes? Ask them for one. ;)
Or I could see if I can get you one.
We didn't get anything at my store (an EB)... :( Maybe ebay some day...
Just put in my pre-order.
Henshin Joe bobblehead + 1 :)
Wait... EBs are getting them at all?
Capt Veg - My store is the only one in the local area. The closest GS to us is over an hour's drive away. :(
I'd love to get a henshin, but I wouldn't want you to go to any trouble.
JM
WHAT??? !!! Tell me more.Quote:

Well, that's also the name of a playable, unlockable character who carries that same sword. He even has a "Devil Trigger" mode instead of a Viewtiful mode. ;)
EBs aren't getting them at all. It pays to be the biggest video game retailer in the world. ;)Quote:

I'll do my best for both you and JM.
I expect a substantial discount at VGD from now on, though. ;)
J/K
PM me and we'll see what "worth my while" adds up to, yes?

I soooo wish I could get those... they're freaking sweet. :)
I agree. And I've never even played the damned game.
...and the rest of us feel left out.
Thanks a lot, you guys.
*sniff*
I'll try to get you some too, then, but that's it. I can only get so many.
I was talking about this *mysterious* game-thing you were talking about...
...I'm not gonna bug you for a bobble.
I didn't even know there was a Joe bobblehead!
I did get the Henshin Joe one, though.
*wants one badly*
On another note, Viewitul Joe seems to be doing well as of yet, IGN giving it a mighty review of 9.5. I already had it on my wishlist, even if it would have gotten a bad score, the style appealed me more then the hype.
I don't like bobble heads.
But VJ comes out next week, that's pretty cool.
This game looks amazing, 2D is BACK.
All hail Capcom. "A comic book is 2D, not 3D." Well said.
So, I went to the GameStop in my mall and asked if they had any Viewtiful Joe bobble heads or if I could pre-order the game and get one. They said all they had was the one not in a costume. I said it was still cool and I'd still like one. They just gave it to me and said I didn't even have to preorder it or anything. Score!
It's all that and then some... Viewtiful is easily one of the best games I've played this year. :)Quote:

:D

very true, this game really redefines the term "originality". I don't see one game on the market that even looks like this. It's been pre-ordered since July and i have 155$ in Microplay store credit so I'm all ready on Monday morning :D.Quote:

You folks who complain about all the neat extras the Japanese get, think of how we Canadians feel. We don't even get half the things you do.
One thing though, my EB has this awesome poster, where VJ is standing on a rooftop, looking like Batman, looking down on the city. It says "Viewtiful Day - October 8, 2003" on the top. I asked for it, but someone beat me to it.
"hey, hey, hey, it's a viewtiful day"
Well crap! You see, I already got them for you. One of each.Quote:

JM and bbobb: PM your addresses to me. I got you your Henshin Joe, JM, and both of them for bbobb.
i finally got to try the demo today at Target, and holy shit this game rocks..
i can tell it'll probably be my gamecube game of the year, even above F-Zero GX...
it's just so much fun it's ridiculous, and each hit feels so powerful and satisfying..
awesome stuff.
If anyone can get me a Henshin Joe that'd be awsome. All I have is the normal, costumeless one.
I <3 CV. :)
Yeah, we have one of those at Microplay, I'm pretty certain that if i asked they wouldn't bother just giving it to me.Quote:

Bobble head? I got a T-shirt and "limited edition" art cell.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! You went to EB, didn't you. ;)
I have to. I work there.
Just because I work at Radio Shack doesn't mean I buy everything from Radio Shack.
Hell, I might even get a cell phone from a VERIZON STORE (Sh-sh-shock!)!
You're kidding me...Quote:

I guess I'd be up for a monatary exchange on normal Joe.
It's really no big deal if you've already gotten rid of them. Viewtiful Joe looks damn fine next to my CFAS Ingrid figure, as is.
Thanks, though.
Where I live, we don't have a wide variety of gaming stores. It's either EB or CompuCentre. Ever heard of CompuCentre? Exactly.
I'm not downtown near enough to commence commerce.
I hear ya.
See, I live in an over-commercialized hellhole with people who don't even realize it.
Convenient for finding games, incovenient for finding sanity.
Thats what happens... when you live in Canada!!!! :yuck:Quote:

Sooo, if I have a preorder for Viewitful Joe I should get a bobblehead? Should I pick it up as soon as possible or should it be safe and sound til the game arrives?
I ask as I've had varying luck with preorder items at Gamestop and I've had Viewitful on preorder since August. *-neo
When does this stuff launch in Pickering and Oshawa Brisco? I want to pick it up, but it seems like EB is pinalizing people for not preordering. I don't like to preorder anything (I hate giving money away without getting anything in return at the same time). Perhaps BestBuy would do me well.
It's close too.
Feh. I think... the 9th of October. They won't penalize you for not pre-ordering, but you won't get that snazzy art cell if you don't ;)Quote:

Meh, I don't really care about the cell. This game scored a 9.5 on IGN. This game is going to be bought by me, no matter what.
(not because of the score, just because I'm greedy)
Nothing special about that bobblehead.
I still want the game though.
Ahh cool thanks. That's definitely a nice preorder bonus.Quote:

The GameStop store I preordered at says that it's being shipped on the 7th and they'll get it on the 8th. I'm guessing that's pretty universal.
you are correct sir.
JM
PS. You rock Captain Veggie!
JM
Heh. So much love. :D
Well, I just hope it hits my Hollywood Video on the 10th :p
Thanks for the heads up Brisco.
Got my cel art today. It rocks. Cannot wait until Wednesday.

I wonder if anyone could be that stupid? I hope all of you enjoy VJ when it finally comes out in the US. This game better be a success. I just hope they don't make a sequel only to have it turn out to be a 3D platformer or something. Keep it sidescrolling and maybe add a 2 player mode and I'll be happy. :D
Apparently IGN is pandering to this audience. Check out this clip from their Sonic N preview:Quote:
