grrr. just got back from a bad trip(literally and figuratively) I went to the eb, they had joe for 49.99 so i bolted after pre ordering double dash, figuring i was going to find it elsewhere for 39.99.
So i hop over to kay bees, 49.99, and they called it beautiful joe('BASTARDSSS) so after a quick peeing on one of their displayers i went to the sunday matinee, since they sell games, figuring they would have their heads out of their asses, the girl never heard of it. so after grumbling i figured "hey, we still have a stand alone toys are us, wal mart(shiver), and circut city, they wont be gouging".
circut city.."never heard of it",
toys r us "never heard of it..do you want to buy the special edition lion king?"(breif beating and rectal insertion of said lion king special edition on undeserving young retail worker)
Wal-mart(after doing a quick voorish sign for protection after entering there) "nascar, nascar, nascar, dont have it in yet, nascar, nascar."
I am a very sad panda, but no joe for Ryan toay, hopefully by saturday some place that is not a soulless greedy bunch of pigs will have it in. today was NOT a Viewtiful day in my neighborhood. :p
Ittttttssssssss a Viewtiful day in the neighborhood
A Viewtiful day for a neighbor
Won't you be mine? (no)
Won't you be mine? (no)
Well, it is looking cloudy in my hood too. :(
My GS got their shipment in, but no VJ. This means one of three things:
1. It will be in a different shipment around 2:00
2. It really is there but the retard that was working wasn't bright enough to find it on the distro (sadly, this is likely, & I have to work with this person)
3. It will come in tomorrow or later.
1 & 2 are OK, but 3 makes me not want to shop at my own store. This has happened too many times for me to count, & is why I rarely preorder stuff. If I hadn't PO'ed it, I would have forsaken my discount & picked it up at EB.
JM = :curse: :curse: :curse:
Just called my EB, they have it in waiting for me. Work sucks.
D
check the price dio, i think eb is doing the gouge everywhere.
edit, wait, just hit their website, evidently its jsut my eb that is run by nazi war criminals, this will lead to some very bad feelings here.

I'm just sitting at home waiting for GameStop to call about my VJoe. Why they haven't yet, I don't know.
This sucks.
frostwolf ex, the prices for everything at EB come from the home office, and should be the same nationwide. If you feel that they're screwing you, ask to see the information on the computer as they ring you up. If my EB rings up Joe for $39.99, they all should, nation-wide. Stickers can be wrong, but they have to sell it for what it says on the comp.
If you see a pre-own that looks too expensive, check it out, too (especially on HTF stuff, managers might try to screw you).
Lately, there's been a rash of games whose pre-own value > new value. :wtf: That's just a home office fuckup, though.

Way to go, boy genius.
You could be right.
Just got it. Played up to the hellicopter boss. Some nice changes from the demo. I like the "old movie" filter used for regular Joe. The opening cinema is great too. :D I can't wait to dive into this one. It is going to kick so much ass...
Oh, and how cool is the opening animation for the "Team Viewtiful" logo? Man, if we could get a 2D sidescroller in that art stlye.... That logo is truly a taste of where pure 2D could be today.
the team viewtiful thing is one of the most viewtiful things i have ever seen.
im on the 3rd boss. well i was yesterday until i had to go to sleep early. damn morning class. 2nd boss kicked my ass for a while. having way more trouble with the 3rd though. all this while on kids mode. fzero was cake compared to this. i love it.
Fuck.
my store didn't get any games today. Since I preordered it & have already paid it off at GS, I can't go get it anywhere else. This pisses me the fuck off.
JM
Gots my copy (along with a plain clothes Joe), good stuff.
Haven't tried it out yet, but I will soon.
Woo!
The helicopter boss seemed way harder than on the demo, I guess that's logical.
I might have to start over on Kids if I keep getting viewtifully murdered by the second boss the way I have been for the last hour.
EDIT: Nevermind, I was doing something really stupid and took him out with three combos without getting hit.
I like how the ADULTS option flashes like a sex store/strip club sign.
i'm on the fourth level on adult and man, this game gets tough. the fourth level is fantastic, and though it may be stretching it a bit, may be a deliberate nod to a level in silvergun. pretty hectic; i had to take a break.Quote:

Does the "ADULT" mode feature Joe getting his knob shined in the intro? I heard something to that extent a little while ago, and due to a lack of gamecube I can't really tell if that's the case or not...
Those pics are awesome, Mech.

Any hoo, I got the game today, and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.
if so i am blowing up. I am semi friends with the manager, and will tell him if i am being screwed(i noticed the same thing happening to billy hatcher) i can always drive a little further to get to the gamestop / software etc. I buy a lot of games, but i will buy them form somewhere else if this keeps up. there should be enough competition, the mall has a toy store that sells games and a sunday matinee, and literally across the road is a circut city, satan mart, and big stand alone toys are us. isnt that competition?Quote:

What's the difference? Income. The income for any given household in KoP is leagues above that in my surrounding area of Boothwyn, Wilmington, etc.
Another pricing factor is competition. You said that there isn't a GameStop near you for somewhere around a half-hour? Guess what. You're going to pay for that. Most people aren't interested in driving an extra 30 mins. for a new game, and if they have to spend five extra (or ten in this case) dollars to stay put, lazyness usually wins out.
You should be fine, though, as EB and GameStop both price-match. Add that to the fact that it'll be one of their own stores that they're matching and you should have no problems.
Call around to the other EBs in the area and ask about the pricing. If that fails, call the GameStops. You're bound to find at least one store you can force your EB to match. No Wal-Marts or Targets, though. We never match them. :p
could i have them price match their own website? or do i have to have a flyer?
I don't think the website price is a valid match, but print out the page and give it a shot. If the website doesn't work you shouldn't need a flyer; just ask them to call where ever you want them to match.
ok, thank you. strange they would raise the prices here, as we are one of the most depressed areas in the entire country, but hey, and for a pointless whining, the kop mall sucked, a bunch of overpriced stores with no actual stock, a really shitty suncoast, no arcade, and redundant music and video game stores, huge waste of time, not nerd friendly at all.
I know. There used to be an arcade, eons ago, across from the EB.
And like i said, your area might not be on top concerning income, but if there's no competition around for a long drive, you'll still be paying for it. :(
How hard is it to buy from EB on release day, pick up a sealed copy when you find it cheaper and return that under your EB receipt?Quote:

There's really no difference - plus you get to play the game on release day.
Actually I think it'd go more like this:
Frostwolf - Phone calls made to insure that not only does an EB in the area stock it at $40, but that his local EB will match it.
One trip out to EB to buy the game.
And who really gives a flying rat's ass about playing it on release day?
Apparently, frostwolf does, and also apparently his EB was not selling for $40.
Well, I live in a "wealthy" state, I guess- and usually our games are priced to the norm. We just got a Best Buy about, oh 2 weeks ago, so things are changing rather quickly. I will never complain if the prices drop- but be carefull on looking at the websites for there prices- Ive noticed that Gamestops website, when i worked for them, often had "deals" that were not as good as even the normal instore prices.... So, its allways worth shopping around, i guess.
In other news- my GS had 9 copies :)
Has anyone else noticed that Joe whistles the Mario Bros. theme when he bounces a bomb on his foot?
Gamecube exclusive  !!!!?Quote:

Hopefully it will be in for us tomorrow :)
Great to see high demand for this.
ok the game rox. i'm finally starting to figure out the scoring system, so i'm getting better, though i'm still terrible with the zoom function.
btw, everyone should try to see this in progressive scan. i just hooked it up to my monitor, and it's beautiful. i don't think i've ever seen a console game with better looking backgrounds.

I'm on my way to pick it up right now . . . well, not right now, as I'm on the computer, but soon! Very soon!
i got my joe in the mail today from capcom, along with a huge blue HMD shirt and their 2003 catalog..
going to go play it now..
and the shirt will shrink in the wash a bit i hope.
This game is much harder than I orriginally thought! I like that it sets you back to the beginning of the level when you lose all your lives. Forces you to really play the game.
What is HMD anyway?
I picked the game up yesterday, but I didn't get around to playing it until today. I probably wasn't as pumpedfor the game as most people here, but after playing a bit, I'd be lying if I said it hasn't won me over. Great game.
Am I to understand by the "Team Viewtiful" logo that this is the product of a new team? Let's hope we har morefrom them in the future.

I have a question about the game. I don't want to spoil anything, so if you have the answer, I guess it would be considered a spoiler. So take proper precautions. :)
There are all these boxes in the background, I can't get to them, I think I tried everything. Do I need a certain power up to get that stuff? Do I use the slowdown, zoom, speed up?
speed up.
Am I the only one who finds VJ's music totally "blah" and forgettable?
no, i do too. music is decent, but definitely forgettable.
Was the shirt a pre-order bonus or something? I want the shirt but don't have cash for the game right now, so I'm hoping it can be bought seperately.Quote:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that VJ has the best visual presentation I've ever seen in a game. The game is soaked in slickness.
burg and veggie, thanks for the ideas, but i dont do the return thing, that strikes me as slightly unethical, i have enough games in my pos, im actually finishing buffy this week, so its no big deal. i am pretty sure it will be on the right amount at the local toys r us, so i will likely get it on saturday. i was just annoyed that i have been loyal to this guy,and now i find out i am being ripped off, its a personal thing. I will get it eventually, hell, i have half a mind to buy it at walmart just to be spiteful.
Very tight game so far.
Funny, you should mention it cka , but it does look like Joes girl friend goes down on him in the intro . That was the first thing we said when we saw it too. Havent tried Kids mode so dont know if its any different.
The only thing about the controls that's driving me kooky is that I cant change upper dodge to a button and jump with the analog  just doesnt feel right jumping with a button in this game for some reason...
Another thing is that I cant get Joe to do any other moves than his usual punch/kick combos - even though I've pulled off some Eddy Gordo lookin/Capoeira spin kick by accident some how - does he learn moves the furthur he goes into the game? I stopped at the helicopter boss so I wouldnt know, and I'm too tired from work to go much furthur until I get some downtime this weekend...
Something that I've noticed is Capcom's new propensity toward intermission power-upping. It was done in P.N.03, and now it's in VJ. Maybe Mega Man X7 will have something similar, though I can't think of how they'd implement it.
I'm loving it so far. The bosses are great! Progressively more difficult, and their names are histerical.
In Kids mode, Silvia just jumps on Joe and starts kissing him. I haven't played Adults mode yet, though, so they could very well be the same intros.
Level 5(?) boss spoiler...
Nice DMC reference...the boss is named Alastor and has moves like Stinger, Round Trip and High Time. I also read he can be opened up as a playable character.

This game kicks much ass. I really like how the beat-em-up action feels like platforming/puzzle solving almost because of how the speed up/slow down functions work. Reminds me a tiny bit of Silhouette Mirage, though I'm sure that's a bad example since they really don't play alike at all. The "puzzles" in some cases remind me of Klonoa. I like how you can buy powerups when you finish a section, too. The controls are really kinetic, if that makes any sense. It's easy to get into that "zone" where everything flows really fast and smoothly. I really like the different types of enemies too, with their different types of attacks and powers; makes you have to think quickly on the fly of the best way to kill them. A couple of times I've gotten stuck not knowing what to do, then I realize there's a puzzle type element I need to solve and things are peachy. Great game! I'm actually surprised there's as much platforming as there is, but then again, I've kept myself from reading too much on this game and didn't play the demo, so I was almost a complete newbie on it today!

also, the meter takes much longer to run down in kids mode, so you can actually attack more than one wave of enemies if you're lucky. i think i pulled off the combo in the stage 2 hotel.
I've only played it on Adults so far and my highest combos as been 530.
I don't know what it was exactly, but it 3,400+. This game is too damn good. :D
JM
I just got to the shmup level. Yeah, I'm slow. :) Anyway, I would have liked a more sophisticated shmup, but I was happy that the thing was at least competant enough to be a nice diversion from the beating style play. It didn't end up bringing the game down any like it could have.
However, I think I have found the first negative about this game: It's really freakin' long! This is the kind of game I like to play over and over, but when 1 run through takes this long I won't be able to get in as many repeats as I'd like. I want to perfect the game, not just get to the end. It's going to be a bear perfecting something this long.
Oh well, so far the game is still a 9/10.
Im up to Episode 6 on kids man the fucking game owns
i think once i beat kids i shouldnt get my ass kicked too much by Adults *LOL*
so how far along is everyone
this is GOTY right here
Finally rented us a copy :)
Dj is playing now, and this game is awesome.
Back to watch the game I go :)
Should I have not played on Adults the first time through? It's gettin' kinda tough...
Well, that's what I did. I've used 13 continues thus far (just started the "Magnificent 5" level), but I think it's the right thing to do.Quote:

Any tips on keeping a combo going? I like slo-mo but it seems that I can only get a good combo while in it. I'd like to use fast a bit more than I do, but the real combo points seem to all involve slow.
When I beat this thing the first time my continue counter is going to be in the 50s at this rate, if I can even keep it that low.

Anyone know what the Hell I'm s'posta do in the level 5 (Midnight Thunder Boy) sewers? The level breaks down like this:
I beat the tank;
I beat the Jet;
I took a path through the lava sewers, slowing time to form platforms with the drips of water;
I beat the Joker (Slot Machine) dude at the end of the sewers;
And now I'm stuck. I can make the slot machine spit out bombs, but I don't know what the Hell to do with the damned things.
