not as good as Mario kart, but better than Mario kart 64

some boring track designs
emphasis on item use and luck in 150cc
battle mode gets old fast
ai opponents always stay in their assigned place

I still can't understand why more people don't think this is a better game than MK64. It seems like everyone wants battle mode to be a first person shooter's deathmatch mode (camping spots, ect.) only on karts. As for the racing, the racing engine itself in DD!! is so much more refined and powerful. Now it requires skill to block an incoming shell, rather than just knowing you can hold that green shell behind you. Now there's a ton of strategy involved in picking your racers, kart, their placement at different points during the race, ect. Co-op mode is the greatest innovation in Kart racing since the original Mario Kart invented the genre. I think if more people compared this game's battle mode to the original's battle mode, the size of the maps wouldn't be such an issue.

The SNES Mario Kart(which is still terrific btw) had arenas like that because of the limitations of the hardware but they were still bigger even on a 2D mode 7'ish plane and were better than DD's. After MK 64 there's no excuse.Quote:

I thought MK 64 was fun for multiplayer battle mode. This game looks good.
Will: I agree with you, but I think if you look at SNES MK's battle mode with 2 people and compare it to MKDD!!'s battle mode with 2 people MKDD!! comes out favorably. I had fun with MK64's battle mode, but it felt NOTHING like the SNES version's battle mode, which I liked a lot more. DD!!'s battle mode feels like they took the SNES one and broke it by letting 4 people play on the maps. I haven't decided yet if it's more fun 4 player than MK64, but I definately haven't had as much 2 player fun in MK since the original. I also think that you have to include co-op in the overall blanket of what DD!! has to offer in the multiplayer department.
I like it. I like it a lot.
DK's mountain is the best board in the game, so far. But I haven't unlocked the special cups yet, so only time will tell.
The four unlockables are each arguably better than DK's mountain. By the way, we did a two player LAN last night. It worked perfectly but Nintendo really should've added a few more options. We'll do at least a 3 player LAN next week.
My lady is like some type of MK:DD playing machine.
Nearly anytime we sit down I hear "lets play mario kart!". We played the 150cc all circuit cup too many times last night. :D
Good stuff, I had a feeling we'd enjoy it, but not quite this much.
The game, to me, is only worth playing when it's two people to one cart. That way, the guy in back can concentrate solely on weapons and punching around turns. The guy in front drifts and drives. My brother and I are unstoppable as Toad and Toadette in the bullet car. "We're fungus on a fucking bullet." He said "Of course we go fast."
No fungi-bullet can stop the fury that is ParaTroopa in a BarrelTrain! BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!
