I got my copy last night and I must say I'm a little dissapointed. Yeah, the lack of hopping is lame but my main concern is the lack of sense of speed. Unless you're playing on 150cc it really feels like your chugging.
I played the TMNT demo.
Most annoying game EVER.

I can't believe they took it out. I hope I can get used to it. :(
The lack of a hop is strange at first, but I've already got accustomed to it.
I just blazed with some buddies and then busted out Mario Kart. None of them are big gamers or Nintendo fanatics, but we ended up playing for 2 hours. I think it may take over Madden's spot for the multiplayer game of choice amongst the people who regularly hang out at my apartment.
Double Dash delivers. I haven't had that much fun with a game in quite some time.
Awesome. Sounds great(The game and the blazing).Quote:

I do agree with you about Metroid Prime however, the new and remixed theme music was awesome.
only played 20 mins before hitting work.
Question; who's curious enough to try Warp Pipe on this? I am, but I'm also afraid of the results...
Dammit, they should've let Gamespy build their backbone stuff into this.
Actually I was more referring to their N64 predecessors but I didn't make that clear. Sunshine's main musical strength was the homages to the original, and Mario 64 was just weak in the sound department. Wind Waker had a few amazing tracks, especially the main theme and the miniboss score.Quote:

To go back several pages... it seems that only the games coming out of their second party developers have good "production" values. I guess voice acting, solid music, and replay extras are "Americanized" gameplay ideas that the fine folks at EAD haven't yet grasped.
I just played DD for a few hours, seems totally awesome, and easily the best MK game since the original.
I'm sure I do because it was the language I acquired while growing up. I had the models (parents and those around me) providing me with sufficent exposure to the language to develop my lexicon. Thus I became a native speaker of English.Quote:

Just how many more tracks can you unlock from the first 12? Any more battle levels? It was fun with my friends but we ended up playing 4 player monkey ball.
played for about 6 hours today.
I fear my grades and social life will suffer because of this game, but i am powerless to stop the inevitable.
a post on the warppipe forums:Quote:

front page says itll 'be released before the end of the year.'Quote:

I only have
All Track Mode on Mirror
to finish. It's ever so slowly growing on me, it's like beer; the first time you drink it, it tastes horrible and bitter because you expected it to taste nice like Coke or lemonade. But as you perioidically drink it to get drunk, you get used to the taste and eventually drink it to get intoxicated AND for the taste.
I understand they littered each track with Item Boxes so the rear player would always have something to do, but my main gripe is still that there is FAR to much carnage.
I reckon this game is less Bass Ale and more Natural Ice.Quote:

Actually to be sure I hate Natty Ice, when I need a cheap brew I either go OE or Pabst Blue Ribbon.
This good Aussie way of getting fucked up cheap is buying a cask wine, removing the bladder of wine from the box, puncturing the tap, and then holding the bladder over your head so you drink a litre of wine in less than a minute. Such a thing is called a "goon bag".

Otherwise, Victoria Bitter is one of the most popular, consumable and cheapest beers you can buy.

Too much carnage is my secondary gripe.
My main is the inability to restart or redo a race, especially when you get robbed because of said carnage. That's gay.
Tracks are pretty uninteresting, too. Haven't played multi, but I hope it makes up for the single player, which is B at best.
F-Zero GX >>>>>> Mario Kart DD so far.
from what i read, you can decrease the frequency of the super unbalancing items. i'm not sure if it works in single player, though.Quote:

I dont understand why the single player is so shitty... the single player was good in the other Mario Kart games, especially the GBA version. Ahh fuck you Nintendo.
It's been in reserve for me for a while now, and i should pick it up, but theyre's no bus service in MTL due to a strike...grrr, my last resort is walking.
Diffusion what's up with the single player? I'm gonna hate it if it's the kind of game where its good but you dont get into it at all...grrr'z.

So I must congratulate Nintendo on making great SNES-era games (while their modern-era titles suck ass). The mark of a great company is being able to produce good products a decade behind your competitors, that's for sure.
And yes I do hate the GBA, because it hurts my hands and I cant see the screen without standing on the surface of the sun. I do like Wario Ware though.
Is the single player as good as the 64 version? I remember that was sort of boring too until you got into the 150cc courses. But I played that game for hours on end.
Anyways, picking this up tonighht, I can't wait .
Well, my initial impression is 'meh'.
I guess F-Zero GX ruined it for me.
F-Zero GX > MK:DD
After I've played it some more, I'll give some updated impressions.
I don't think the single player is any worse than in previous MK games. the scoring system from Advance is gone, but DD has more unlockables than any other MK game.
I'm sure I'll spend many hours perfecting my times in time trials. thats what single player is all about.

I dont have a GameCube. Anyway, even if I did, I wouldnt buy a Game Boy Player, because thats rewarding Nintendo for releasing a shitty product by giving them more money. I already spent $100 on the GBA so why would I wanna give them another $50 for the GB Player or another $100 for the GBA SP?Quote:

Saying the GBA is a mistake is (like most things on this board) a matter of opinion. I know of millions of happy people with the original GBA, that doesn't suggest to me it's unplayable. If the SP wasn't unveiled I would have happily kept playing the standard GBA till something else worthwhile came along. And, as always, it's all about the games... it's worth Nintendo's fair price for a GBA to enjoy titles like Advance Wars, Aria of Sorrow (yes I know you hate it), and Golden Sun (plenty more). Good games = good system in my opinion, end of story. Gamecube has good games, Gamecube is a good system. Hate on these things all you want, but if people are enjoying them, then they're doing their job.
P.S. Mario Kart is still disappointing. Think I'll get Mario and Luigi instead. <3 <3 Paper Mario.

Ever stop to think that Nintendo isn't making these updates for you? They're making them for the next generation of kids. Unfortunately, these kids don't want Nintendo, they want Sony.
You guys are fucking insane. This game is awesome. The track designs are 10,000 times better than MK64, and the game is way faster. Its still not better than the original but its close.
Game too slow in 50 0r 100cc? THEN play 150cc.
Too many items and too much carnage? Then use to option to tone down the item boxes or turn them OFF completely. THe options are there, use them.
Co-op is insanely fun, and you can even play 4 players in the GrandPrix (4 player co-op) - most racing games only allow One player in grand prix.
Track designs are right up there with snes MK in that theres a shit load of more crazy curves and bends than MK64 ever had - and the tracks themselves are alot more narrow than the crappy MK64 ones (on the majority of the courses anyways). DK Mountain is the best Mario Kart track ever.
The music is fine. Its sounds like every other mario kart game that ever came out. So whats the problem?
For those that are dissappointed, what MK or other cart game are you comparing it too? It sure as hell better not be MK64 - just try playing that piece after MK:DD.
MK:DD (IMO of course) is a close 2nd to snes Kart. Go buy it if you havent already.
Everyone put a space between MK: and the DD.
And I'm comparing it to Diddy Kong Racing.
It's just an update IMO, nothing new to wabble about, but if it's more like Super mario Kart, I guess it's alright.
But it's not. It's more like MK64 than anything else.
That makes it worse...
Best cart racer ever. This game's amazing. Put it in yesterday and it stayed on for 14hrs. Me and one of my buds beat everything with gold cups, even mirror "all cup." Haven't even played it multiplayer yet but the single player game was fun as hell for us. The four unlockable tracks are among the best ever in any MK game. Pure Gold!!

Seems you can get a boost after you've fallen. I just mash the gas button when Likutu drops me, and I'll land with flames coming out the back of the kart.
WTF is up with Wario's voice?
I've found that Wario's voice is always different in games not based on him...
Does drifting give you a boost or something? The sparks on the CPU karts are blue sometimes... mine never are...
ChaoofNee - read the instruction manual on how to get the blue boost sparks.
Co-op is the fucking shit. It adds a millions times the fun of two player versus racing. The woman and I played for hours and *she* wanted to play more. That's jacked up. I even taught her to slide boost and we started kicking some real ass.
My old habits die hard. I keep trying to jump over little gaps with the R trigger. The sliding is different and I keep sliding off ledges. :\
I like it.
It's different. And it's not MK64. But I like it.
I still need to figure out how to unlock The Man.
The Man = Toad
Six, Gamefaqs.
btw, how did you do slide dashes in the previous games? I was playing with a friend and he said you didn't have to wiggle the stick in the other versions, but it's been so long I can't remember.
what pair are you guys using? i've been going back and forth for the perfect pair. :)
I got this game today, good stuff.
It gets progressively more crazy and challenging with higher CC's. The partner switching is a neat add-on play mechanic but I'm not used to it yet since its a tad intrusive while in a heat of a race but it certainly adds another dynamic to your advantage.
I wish the hop from the 64 was kept in there since it made the karts feel more nimble and you could hop over certain objects easily. It feels weird to just go into a powerslide without it but what I do is before approaching a corner I keep the L/R button depressed while turning so that when I turn I only have to move the stick to the opposite direction while changing the spark color. It sucks that the orange sparks don't give you a medium boost like the orange smoke trails in 64 but eh whatever.
The track design picks up and gets cooler after Wario Stadium, the higher the CC's the more shortcuts and bigger the course. I must say that Mario Kart 64's tracks are better since they felt much bigger and longer whereas the DD courses are short but still pretty sweet. The courses just leave me hanging for more if they were just bigger and more detailed it would be great. I haven't tried multi-player yet, just messing around with the regular single player.
Graphically its really colorful and crisp, but I think the GC could do better character models and kart rendering. Why is Mario's hat still not perfectly round or lip synching done better than an animated texture? Why no fur effect on Donkey Kong and better foliage/crazy waterfalls/steamboats in DK's level?
I don't want anything hyper realistic but just showing what the GC can do. So mostly the courses borrow a good amount from 64's while adding stuff from Sunshine and their own little things(I dig the cruise boat and the highway ones).
Minor gripes.
Musicwise its nothing special. A bit too muffled for a GC game as it could be much clearer and better executed. At the same time I can't say its not fitting for this type of game but again, they have no excuse to ignore the Gamecube's capabilities when other developers are doing great stuff with it.
So anyway I'm having fun with it, so far I'd give it a 8.5-9/10 eithout trying multi.
BTW I got the MK DD game with the demo. Its a pretty nice demo here's my impressions:
TMNT: Disappointing compared to the Genesis Hyperstone Heist(my favorite version)/Turtles in Time SNES games. It could definitely do without the speech since it gets repetetive. Environments should be more detailed and interactive and there should be thugs as well as different colored foot soldiers.
I have a feeling TMNT 2, if one is ever made, should have more characters from the cartoon assuming they include Krang, Shell-Head, Fly Baxter Stockman, Rat King, that cool as hell Pharoah robot more mutants and all the classic stuff updated. Also being able to buy moves and such, 4 player and it would be a killer game.
Sonic Heroes: Awesome demo, I liked it alot. Sometimes I just want to play only one character like Sonic throughout the whole level without the different somewhat mandatory character switching. That 3 character team play is still pretty cool since gameplay is varied but fun and actually looks damn badass when they do team up moves like on the Dark side.
Looks VERY nice graphically. Vibrant, smooth, clean and runs pretty fast. I really dig the level design too even if it can get pretty hectic.
Star Wars Rebel Strike: Fun on-foot level but for some reason when I winch myself up to strike with the lightsaber, the camera gets stuck on the inside of the walker and I can plant the bomb since it doesn't let me do anything but look around. I definitely want to get the full game after I finish up Rogue Leader.
The 1080: Avalanche video shows the game looking VERY good so far. It seems to be copying the lighting effect SSX3 has when character models are in ice areas but the avalanche's themselves look cool too. The tricks look pretty complex to pull off as well since balance is an important added element.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles looks beautiful I'll buy it the day its out but I'm still iffy on the story, I hope its not too open ended.

The graphics and size of the levels are certainly letdowns. I'm pretty sure this game could've come out last year, maybe even at launch and still look the same.
I'm using Mario and Luigi in Luigi's kart so far. I will probably switch it up for Yoshi and Bowser.
I use Para-Trooper and Baby Luigi in the Para Wing car.
I think the game is golden, and maybe MK for GBA spoiled me, but I just want more tracks. I know there is mirror mode but that just dosen't make up for it.
Espically after how awesome every track was in the special cup, it just left me wanting alot more from the game. Even though 20 of the old tracks in MK for advance were just from the snes MK, this version still leaves me wanting alot more.
so far i've used:
Mario / Paratroopa
Yoshi / Paratroopa
Yoshi / Peach
all in the mario kart or waluigi racer
p.s. everytime i hear "Hi I'm Daisy" i want to scream.
Yoshi and para troopa in mario's red car, but im still fine tuningQuote:

Donkey Kong and Bowser in Bowser's Tank
Koopa Troopa and ParaTroopa in the Koopa kart.
Oh, and battle mode = both Koopas in the bullet cart

Back! Back, I say! Go back to the depths of the lack of creativity from whence you came!
I like to use Koopa and Toad in the green shell car(can't remember what it's called). I get a lot of triple mushroom power-ups that way.
I got a good day's playtime into Double Dash and I really like the game. I concur the most of the tracks are average (the Special Cup tracks, on the other hand, are excellent), and the music is really awful (Rainbow Road is disappointing up until it borrows the ending melody from Rainbow Road 64).
Nonetheless, I'm having fun and am looking forward to playing multiplayer and co-op when I visit my cousins for Thanksgiving. I've already bested the 50cc and 100cc, but the 150cc has given me a little challenge. I can't wait to unlock everything. While I don't regret my purchase in the least bit, I wish that Nintendo added more tracks and used better music.
If I could change one thing about the game, it would be the number of tracks. 16 just isn't enough. I think i remember reading in an interview that they cut some out from the final version. Bad move, I think.
I'm in love with Co-op. Overall, it's a must-have if you entertain friends frequently.
As a one-player deal...it's average, not ground-breaking, and feels...short. I dunno how else to put it. It's not terrible - just not grade-A material.
But co-op puts all other racing games to shame, in its own wonderful way.
I was beginning to love this game, but after today... it shits me.
I decided today to play co-op with my sister to finish the final task in the game:
All Cup Mode, Mirror Engine Class.
Seriously, we were driving like a fucking well-oiled machine. Blue boosting every corner with accuracy, swapping to maximise the amount of item boxes collected, firing green shells with precision.
But on almost every track the game never wanted us to win, we kept a stash of green shells and bananas to keep the red shells at bay. But that's futile when two of them come at you within 2 seconds of each other, that's not enough time to pass the other shell/banana to the other person. On the Yoshi track, we were way ahead of the opposition by about 15 or so seconds, then THREE Spiked Shells came at us, one after the other. I'm sorry, but that's just fucked. Apart from the ludicrous "catch-up" Mario Kart 64 was pretty fair with the amount of Blue Shells and Red Shells that would come at you when you were first. The carnage in MK-DD is more than excessive. I don't like playing games were luck is more of a factor to winning than skill, it's just not fun.
Also, the points assigned to winning is really dodgy.
This is only a spoiler because it eludes to how many tracks are in All Track Mode.
We came 1st in 11 tracks, 2nd in 2, 3rd in 1, and 5th in 2.
They came 1st in 4 tracks, 2nd in 11 tracks, and 3rd in 1.
Yet we came 2nd and they came 1st. Points should be exponential, because since they've destroyed the "must come 4th or more to pass rule", you can loose your lead by simply having two bad races.
Good call.Quote:

This game gets worse every day.
I logged an incredible number of hours into the MK64's battle mode. The block fortress was awesome, especially the way you could fire red shells from the 2nd or 3rd story to negate a green shell ring of protection... good times.
Now, all the battle arenas are ass. They're TINY as FUCK. I am so pissed off. Mediocre single player with crap track design (barring 3-4 of the 16), horrible Battle Mode... at least co-op is fun.
But I could say the same thing about Conflict: Desert Storm.
I'm going to play Crimson Skies.
Play the pipe level in shine thief mode.
Can't I slam my dick in my desk drawer instead?
Please?
The bomb battle game is the worst game ever designed. Shine thief would be much better on the normal tracks (if that is unlockable, good). Balloon fight is the same old on shitty small maps. Baby Park is better for fighting than any of the battle modes.
The racing is as fun as Mario Kart's ever been, but it's stupidly slow and there's really nothing new here. It's the best Mario Kart game only because it's the prettiest and newest, not because it does anything special or unique.
I like it a lot for multiplayer games whenever I'll have the time, but I'm glad I wasn't the one in my group that ended up buying it.
Wait, you have a dick? :oQuote:
