I haven't tried it out yet - I should since I broke my neck to buy it ($9 bucks....ick!) Anyways, just thought I start up a discussion among other DoA3 fans and for those that have been looking forward to bringing their domestic version closer to the JPN/Europen editions.

Basically it upgrades your current save file (provided you have the full version of DoA3) to include a new movie, featured in the Japanese and European versions....plus, it adds a bevy of new outfits to the entire cast! Definitely worth the 9 bucks! :D

According to various posts on Tecmo's DOA3 forum (& apparently confirmed by Eggo on other message boards), DOA3 booster disc doesn't add any new moves found in JPN/EUR version of DOA3...
Wonder if that means we'll see 2nd upgrade disc in the future (or not)?

By the way, this smells a little to much like patching. If console developers ever start patching, I'll break their thumbs.
Patching is done to fix a problem. This doesn't fix any problems, but adds costumes and such. Using it won't affect how the game plays.

Adding new moves would then make the JPN/Euro versions pale in comparison. Would've been nice, but this is a precursor to what developers can do with the Xbox in the future. It's always been a vision in the past, but now is finally a reality.
The "patch" grimace is really not something to be stressing...I mean, it's not like this is done to "repair" bugs, so the term seems a bit inapporpriate. Expansion pack would be a bit more suitable, and I am sure all DoA3 fans appreciate the effort that was made. It gives the opportunity for many more developers to follow Tecmo's example in the immediate future.

How does getting the same amount of moves make US version superior to JPN/Euro versions? (just to clarify, JPN/Euro version of DOA3 does have a few more moves than US version. And Booster pack does not add those "missing" moves)
The extra disc US gamers have to pop in everytime they want to see the new opening? I'd say that's a drawback, not an advantage...
Of course, the game is good as it is now and beggars can't be choosers, but I feel that Tecmo & Itagaki somewhat failed to deliver what he promised in the end.

I know this is not a patch. I just said it smells like one. I actually appreciate the extra outfits without buying the import. You have to admit that the hard drive and magazine w/ free disk does open the patching door....

I meant to add an inquiry if the import versions incorporated new moves (I forgot), and to add, if we were to get new movies - would they be the same, or completely different (possibly better). If the latter, than IMHO, then our 'upgraded' version could be considered better...indeed, I didn't state that right at all.

but first...a explanation of my own...
..and no you don't have to pop in the disc everytime...that part you misunderstood...it automatically updates your save file. When you pop the Booster Disc in the Xbox, it will search for a DoA3 save file on your HD...so when you go to play the full version of DoA3, you'll get all the features automatically.
I don't know why you interpreted it as being anything else...if it were as you assumed - yes, that WOULD suck.
A new movie and some costumes? Ho hum. I thought there would be some meat on that booster disc. $9 to see the DOA girls in school uniforms isn't really a "deal". What else is on the disc?
I really don't know what to make out of the DOA3 add-on disc aside from the fact that it's a shame the new CG intro can only be viewed on the add-on disc itself. What I don't get are the insinuations that there are more DOA3 extras than just the new costumes and CG intro on the add-on disc. On Pg. 93 of the OXM, in the section above Itagaki's meaningless diatribe, they discuss the costumes and CG then they go on to say - and I quote - "And there's much, much more that we'll leave for you to find out for yourself." Wassup with that?!

Heh... Actually, I didn't misunderstand that part... I already know those extra costumes on booster pack are saved to HD, so you don't need to use booster pack once you've done that, BUT everytime you want to see the new CG FMV opening, you'll have to insert booster pack disc, since it's not getting saved to HD at all...Quote:

As for the booster, there are a lot more outfits which are apparently avaialable, but you must find the method to unlocking them. From what I recall, the ones immediately available are just teasers. :)
I guess if one expects everything to be handed over as a silver platter, there's much disappointment...try it out and see first before writing it off as just a worthless booster.
I've alredy downloaded those onto my save file. :)
Americans are screwed again. Really, it's not a surprise. Tecmo doesn't really care about anything except money. For the record, the Japanese version does have more moves and also has some minor gameplay changes.

I agree. Tecmo does jerk around it's supporters with the DOA series. They've released LE's for all three with very little to no justification of gouging another $50. The DOA3 add-on disc is also very glitchy. The more I think about it, the more half-assed the DOA3 add-on is. Don't give me the BS about getting it for free, either. Being free doesn't change the fact that (unless there are unknown hidden goodies) the disc is a half-assed, glitchy disappointment. How the hell Tecmo didn't even include an arcade counters option is beyond ludicrous. It's damn insulting.Quote:

First off, all the characters, male ones too, get new costumes except Ein, so it's not just the ladies, but the male costumes tend to be very silly. They made Bass a Viking. O_o
Secondly, it's still missing 50 moves, but most of those moves are devoted towards Hayate, Bass, and Tina. If you don't play them much, the game isn't going to change much for you. For me, I'm only urked about Tina's missing moves since I really wanted to learn how to use her well. I'd be more angry if Christie or Jackie Chan... I mean, Brad Wong were missing significant moves.
Third, there is a possiblity of another booster coming since OXM restricted the amount of space Tecmo could use on their disk. OXM does this I'm sure to spread out the content so they have something every month, since the demos for this month and last month were both on the new Xbox kiosk disk. This is good for me though because I'd gorge myself on the demos and the subscription price is dirt cheap.
Finally, I wouldn't blame Tecmo for this whole deal. I'm sure MS pushed them to have DOA3 as a launch title in the US before it was ready, which is why they put hooks into the programming to allow for this. It was a nice gesture for them to create this booster for a game that I already like very much, except for that Omega loser.
btw someone posted a link on another board where tecmo said they didn't include the extra moves because OXM only gives them so much space on the demo disc
they hinted something about another add-on disc at e3!?
I can dig out that link if anyone wants...

On a slightly related topic, I busted out DoA2 DC last night. Well whadaya know, it still holds up very well in the graphics department! VGA makes a giant difference over interlaced S-video for sure, but that is part of what makes the game, so you have to factor that in as well...

And I’m really mad about not getting the 50+ moves in the booster disc, Techmo and Itagaki say him self that we didn't have to worry, that we were going to get everything that the Japanese version has and what happen??? we get screw again!!!
No new Xbox mag at the grocery store yet...
