Go and read the three issue DarK Knight, Dark City arc from a few years back, and many of you will agree that the Riddler has become one of the darkest Batman villans yet, even darker than the Joker.
One of the despicable acts that he pulled in this arc was that he made a baby swallow a ping-pong ball, to get it stuck in his throat, and he left a rusty knife beside the baby. Batman couldn't get the baby to the hospital, so he had to perform a trachectomy with the rusted knife, then get it to a hospital before the infection could take hold.

I am a huge Batman fan, so I can't choose any one specific villan as being my favourite.
Batman's rogue's gallery is the best in comicdom. They don't have any aspirations to rule the world, or the like, they all simply want to kill, or beat, the Batman.
With all the crap Bats has in his utility belt, you'd think he have something a bit better suited to cutting through a bit of flesh other than having to resort to using a rusty knife...Quote:

About Sin Tzu, Cunning Master in the Deadly Arts of War
Sin Tzu is the most brilliant and methodical of all of Batman’s foes. He is not criminally insane – at least not in the classical sense, for he does not lust for money, revenge, or hatch twisted plots for the master detective to unravel. Rather, he is an arrogant conqueror who prides himself in conquering worthy opponents who have never been beaten before.
A discarded child, Sin Tzu was adopted by a modern thuggee cult which plied its trade of religious mayhem and robbery throughout Southeast Asia. Once, when pursued by police, the cult hid out in the caves of Chulin, where Sin Tzu discovered an enormous necropolis which not only contained thousands of statue warriors, but the mystical/military texts of ancient warlords. Studying this wisdom, he learned not only the military arts, but the lost knowledge of Mehta-Sua: the channelling of mental energy into physical energy and vice versa in order to exert a nearly hypnotic mind control which can turn weak-minded rabble into an effective fighting force.
His solitary studies complete, Sin Tzu set about building an insurgent army of fanatics who carried out his lust for conquest. Often acting behind puppet politicians, Sin Tzu conquered large swaths of Cynna, Vet Nak and carried out the brutal invasion of Unglong. Sin Tzu is a strategist and warrior, not a despot. When he accomplishes his objectives in warfare he vanishes from the scene and gives no heed to the chaos that follows.
During months of solitary meditation, he plots his next move. Then, he appears in an unexpected place, with a new army, to wage war upon the innocent.
Always on the lookout for a worthy adversary, Sin Tzu heard legends of the Dark Knight of Gotham City and set out to defeat him on his own turf and terms. Realizing that he could raise an army of Batman’s enemies, Sin Tzu arranged to have himself captured by covert international operatives and taken to Arkham Asylum for clinical analysis. Once at Arkham, he not only enlisted members of Batman’s Rogues Gallery - after all, in asking them to fight Batman, he was only asking them to do what they wanted to do anyway - but began hatching a grand strategy for the conquest of Gotham City, including the use of an army of common criminals from Stonegate Prison.
As well as a being a grand strategist, Sin Tzu is a master martial artist. Keeping his body perfectly fit with a rigorous exercise regimen and an ascetic lifestyle which forsakes him all pleasures of the flesh through an ancient form of self-torture, he is more than a match for the Caped Crusader in one-on-one combat. Let the battle for Gotham City begin…
I honestly think Sin Tzu is kinda dumb, just from appearances.
The basic problem with Sin Tzu is that he borrows so much from past characters. He is basically an amalgamation of Bane/Mad Hatter/Ra's Al Ghul. The storyline looks to be a twist on the Knightfall arc.
I view him as a replacement for Ra's Al Ghul, now that he is supposedly going to die. Dependant on the fans liking the Sin Tzu character, he possibly will be included in the official continuity.
The only thing I dread, is that Sin Tzu will know Bats' identity. Based on the blurb above, he seems to be the type of character who needs to know how to deal with those he wishes to conquer.
Anyways, looking forward to renting the game and seeing how this story unfolds.
Last I heard, the Riddler knew who Bats was, too...

Yes, the Riddller does know who Batman is- but its not going to be a big deal, even though you may find that odd. As for favorite villan? I really did like Hush- but the Joker is still the best enemy....

Bane was smart, too, though. I liked that. That's reason #1 (of many)why the Batman & Robin movie was such shit. :yuck:
Batman Forever too... they took the super slick Riddler and made him a spastic dipshit.

The Riddler in the movie entertained me, but yes- it wasnt him. At all.
Mr.Freeze really wasnt that bad... but the movie just.. ruined him. I mean- Mr.Freeze for Governor?

I like the concept on this guy, if he were to find batman's true identity, it'd be interesting seeing Bruce Wayne become an open target.
Does anyone remember the KGBeast? He had a successor that fought batman awhile back and he was more capable of taking him on in almost every aspect. Sadly he only had a short run, when he attempted to assasinate Russia's president.

I never really cared about the regular Batman comics, it seems like a story that's gone on too long. However, Frank Miller's stuff is excellent.
Yeah- its rare that the Batman comics are particularly good- this past year has been nice, with Jim Lee and some other guy that I have totally forgoten his name. There are like, 5 batman comics out, but they are usually just garbage. I can be more entertained reading over my old Frank Miller stuff for the 800th time.

not sure how many of you have had a chance to play the new batman game (it is out now folks) but i have to hold true to my original vote for Sin Tzu. I know it's unfair to compare somebody like Sin tzu who just came out for a video game against somebody tried and true like The Joker but you guys REALLY need to check Sin Tzu out in this game. I really think that he'll be here for the long haul... he's one diabolical villain!!!
i also think he's "menha sua" is going to be quite the challenge for batman!

Man, I'm not sure if it's just sleep deprivation speaking but you sound like you just trying to pimp the new Batman game. Your reasons are your own, whether this is thier super secret marketing campaign or you were on the staff to develop it or something along those lines. You're not as up front about it as those N-Gage guys were but to me it seems really clear thats what you're here for. Not to spoil any fun though my honest opinion is that I just think Sin Tzu seems really contrived. Harley on the other hand was sleeek. With 3 E's.

My favorite batman villian has to be the joker, if only because he is just so insane that he's unpredictable hence a very good match for the dectective.
I am suprised no one mentioned the vulomptuous Poisine Ivy. Mind control? Anyone read hush where she got Supes? awesome! Harley is crazy cute sexy. Gotta love the cartoon version with that accent. Talia is a goddamn vamp o la la. Her hair kills me. Catwoman is petty and greedy but bats still likes her. meh. she is a pretty 2-dimesional character anyway since she has like no past, or other relationships besides her cat. she seems to just pop up, steal stuff, flirt, and poof disappear.
What I always noticed about batman was how many former scientists and doctors their were.
Scarecrow, Man-Bat, Poisen Ivy, King Tut, Mad Hatter, Harely Quin, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and I know I'm forgetting someone.
then you've got a former actor, lawyer, and someone else with a legitament proffesion before turning bad.
Then you got the just plain bad guy who were just former thugs... always bad. the penquin, the joker, bane, croc (?), etc
So many interesting vilians. so many stupid ones (both mentally and just stupid period)
