My name, obviously, came from Sealab 2021. This is the first board i've ever used (or even looked at really) and couldn't really come up with anything. I don't like it anymore, but for continuity's sake, it stays.
So what is your username, where did it come from, and why are you using it? I'm curious about some of the more random ones on here.

Hm, Fighting Vipers? Zero-chan inspired me and at the time, I felt it was an appropriate name for my affinity to fighting games at the time. Originally it was BahnOhki (combined from my love for Tenchi Muyo) but shortened it when I founded The Next Level ;)

Back when I was still young I needed a cool name for my online games, and I picked Diffusion for some reason... it just sounded cool, and I didnt really care about the really-really-boring process that the name describes. Over time, I added an x at the end, and made it all lower-case... yes the lower-cases are all intentional.
I would change it, as its more of a throwback to my younger, geekier times (oh, Im still a geek - just not as much of one), but I cant think of anything else, so here it stays!

My fourth year of college there was supposed to be a water balloon fight between our floor and a girls floor in another dorm. We brought balloons, and after we ran out, they came at us with relish, ketchup, mustard, honey, chocolate sauce, carmel, whipped cream. Nothing we were expecting, and since there were no balloons left, we all stank. For some reason, the uber-sweet sickly smell of the concoction made me nauseous something evil, which I held in for a long while, (but never did puke). ANYWAY----> Long story not so short anymore... I got back and took a shower with all my clothes on and systematically washed everything that went into the shower stall. Afterwards, I simply walked back to my room completely soaked, sat down, and was alerted to a game of Unreal Tournament on the network... I wanted to start using a different handle than "Dargon"-->(old old comic book that came with an action figure) or "Shadowviper"--->(Virtual World's BattleTech. hahaha!!!!), and the first thing that came into the old noggin was "Dripdry", as that is what I was doing at the time.

My initials are MMM (Maurizio Moccetti Minetti), and that didn't look cool on SF machines. A friend of mine suggested MZO as a 3-letter alternative, and it stuck.
It's been years. It's practically my name nowadays.

I originally used the name StupendousMan. I used that name in high school within my dorky clique. I brought it online and eventually decided I liked SpacemanSpiff more. So I changed it too that. One day, the boards crashed and I changed my name to TracerBullet because I figured I would go through all of the Calvin and Hobbes alter egos.
Eventually, I was tired of having a specific character attached to myself so I shortened it to Tracer. I figure that's the one I'll keep.

It's the name I use when I play Aliens Versus Predator Primal Rage online. I figured it fits the alien perfectly.

Mine's from a semi-obscure Irem shooter. I like it so much, I even write about it!

I was lying in bed in the early-mid 90s, trying to think of a user name for this newfangled Internet thing. It occured to me that combining my first name and my last initial spelled the word "bent," which was like, all cool and had amazingly deep meaning. And so it became my nick.
I think it's pretty blah now, but don't really have any other bright ideas for nicks. Look where the last one got me. Elsewhere I go by Ben, but that isn't really a nick, is it?
Mine comes from a song, "The Cynical Sphere" by the death metal band Cynic.
There's no real significance to the name, although everyone in the world tells me that it's a fitting nickname.
Slipperz - An old joke name I got revolving around ninja turtle slippers when I was a little kid.
The 1 - When it was released, Quake devoured my soul. During a late night game everyone was hoursing around and came up with 1337 names. I tossed a 1 in there to quote "Make my internet penis bigger" and it sort of stuck. Plus it looks neat!

Well, here is how it come to be my main online handle:
I was trying to come up with a nickname for MSN online gaming zone about 4 or 5 years ago.. and couldn't think of anything. so I grabbed a funcoland price sheet (it was a paper funco put out once a month, that had every game that they could/would possibly sell), and was looking at video game names. When I came accross Criticom in the Saturn section. I thought it sounded cool, and had a nice flow to it, so that was that. I had never played it or anything.. so I didn't know that it was such a piece of shit.
Though, I finally played about a year after I started using the name. But I couldn't take it, so I stopped playing about 10 minutes after I started.
One good thing about it though, is since it's such a poopshit game, it's almost ALWAYS available where ever I want to get it. Which is a plus. I even have it on AIM. :-)

September 2nd, 2000. I had wanted to create a new nick but couldn't think of anything. I threw a few letters up from my keyboard and mixed them up a bit, and got this. It means nothing. It has no ethnic background. It looked cooler with every other being in caps. And I like it.
Hmm, I think we had one of these before, but what the heck.
Its combination of my Name and My love for all things dark and scary. It was first created in the days of Diablo and my Bnet obssession, and since then evolved into GG, TNL and Neomega names.
Hold over from my FPS days, when I was taking Japanese. Throughout Quake 1 I played as "Itai!", but when Quake 2 came along, my old clan wanted to keep playing Q1, so while they squatted on DM3, I switched games and names.
I decided to keep the whole Japanese theme, so since I got a lot of "wtf", "bs", and "no way" from other players, I figured I might as well go with it :)
In Freshman year of high school, I had this class with this really ditzy teacher. I mean, she was a real moron. So she would call out our last names at the beginning of the class and when she got to me, she would say, "Calliander". Instead of correcting her, this other kid in my class suggested I just go along with it, even though there are no D's, E's or R's in my last name. It was a great source of laughter and she never picked it up.
On the last day of that class, she called, "Calliander" and the other classmate and I laughed and she actually picked it up. When she asked what was so funny, the other kid said, "His name isn't Calliander, asshole!"
It sounded cool, so I kept it and it's been my internet moniker ever since.
We did have one of these before. I was playing something like Dragon Warrior and I think I put Chux in because Chuck just wasnt cutting it. Then Shin Myk kept on calling me that on AIM and stuff, going so far as to call me The Chux0rs!!1 which is where my gamego name came from (Chux0r) and I dropped the 0r accordingly.
I just wanted to make an everyday phrase, 'Tie my shoe' look like some kind of name...Eh.

An embarrasing origin for an embarrasing name:
My very first online experiance was the old "Planet Namek" Dragon Ball message boards around 1998 or so. Yeah, I resisted the internet for a long time. :) There were about 29,834 people already signed up when I got there, so the "good" names like Goku were already taken. Heck, even every possible variation on the good names (SSJ6ShinGokuOozaru etc.) were already taken. Nappa was taken..... Chibi Nappa wasn't. So....however inappropriate and un-fitting the name may be now, I've used it for far too long on far too many boards to change now. :bang:
I dig industrial music, and the first genre album I owned was Front Line Assembly's Tactical Neural Implant. "Bio-Mechanic" is the title of track 5. The band got the name from H.R. Giger's series of paintings depicting fusion of organic and mechanical life, which he called his "biomechanical cycle."

At GGo! I was known as slartibartfast (from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy), and when I first registered here I was Alphonso Biscuit-Rake (a kid in a story I wrote who created an orbiting cemetery). I switched to Bio after I finished the story.

Than I started with that hacking, punting and TOSing, and people started to call me "..bandit" from than on, i've used TestTubeBandit, iazybandit (suppose to be like lazybandit (change lower case "i" to capital "i" and it looks like an "L")..thats how us "ieet" people back in AOL days did it), y2bandit (during the Y2K) and many others that I cant remember anymore.

The first export from Japan (which I watched in around 1972) that I actually understood to be Japanese. It was really bizarre and frightening for a 6-year old, but I dug it and it sparked my interest in anime.

It's a boring story, and I think I've told it before. And it's stuck so long that calling myself by anything else would feel wrong.
Mine's boring. I really liked the Ranger X Genesis game back in the day.. when I signed up for TNL (after lurking invisbily for months), I picked the Japanese name of the game. Mainly because I couldn't think of anything better at the time. :)

When I was trying to sign up for Seganet to play NFL2K1, the name Goose was taken. That's what my friends called me in High School and no it has nothing to do with Top Gun.
After several feeble tries at coming up with a name that was'nt taken, I decided to use Gamevet, to describe myself as a long time gamer. It's nothing great, but I use the name just about everywhere I post or play.
The only place I don't use the name, is with Star Wars:Galaxies, as I felt I needed to have a character with a better name than that.

Gongos- from dragon force, he lead a goup of werewolf wannabees, and had the kind of simple, uncivilized goodness that i would like to pretend i exhibit, rough edges and good deeds. The final name, after i got violently sick of gongos was
Frostwolf-and later i added ex after i was having trouble logging on. Frostwolf came from pso.I started as a force, but in v1 forces were pretty underpowered,and i am very aggressive, so i switched to a blue hucast. so i combined his color-blue, which reminded me of ice, or frost, with his robot warrior self,as a total aggressive combat character, agressive like a wolf. frostwolf sounded cool, and soon that was what i called my guy in morrowind(an aragonian paladin) and lately, my guy in star wars:kotor(frostwolf neverine), so its kind of a unified personality thing.
There is honestly no good explanation for my nick. I started using it back in '94 when some buddies and I ran a local BBS (with the marvelous name of Marmosets in Cambodia :) )... I just thought of the name bob at random and decided since it was a bbs I should be bbobb... and I've had the nick ever since.
I didn't first get internet access until fall of '99, and at the time I was playing through Chrono Trigger for the 5th or 6th time. Omegaflare is one of those "secret" Triple-techs you get by equipping the colored rocks. I've always liked those nuclear-based spells/skills in Squaresoft games.
The X was added... um, I dunno why, probably because I'm a dork and adding "X" to things makes it sound cooler (and sci-fi-ish). The F didn't used to be capitilized, but the people at my old community called me "OFX", so I figured I might as well.
There's another "OmegaflareX" out there... one of his (or her?) friends IMed me once. I bet his AIM name is "OmegaflareX1". *points* Ha-ha!
If you've seen Hayao Miyazaki's film, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, or Spirited Away as it's more well-known as in english speaking territories, you've seen the character NoFace. I took a liking to it's design and the character itself, and the name has stuck for the past few years. Sometimes I feel the name might be a bit too odd for me, but it feels at least somewhat unique, and so it stays.
Here's the original Mr. NoFace trying to bribe Chihiro (which is apparently the only picture Google knows of):
SapphirePhoenix used to be SapphirePhoenixM. Sapphire came from the fact that my birthstone is the sapphire, I love the colour blue, and at that time I was also wearing blue contacts by the product color name Sapphire (picked on purpose because of the name). Later on, my college nick was Sapphire (because of the contacts, SapphirePhoenixM was my AIM SN, and because I used that name on the radio sex-talk show I co-hosted). Phoenix would come from my infatuation with the Uncanny Xmen's Phoenix a. k. a. Jean Grey possessed. I don't really LIKE Jean Grey (she's too goody-two shoes), but I love Phoenix and Dark Phoenix. And in those personas I actually dig her alot. I like the continuous struggle she has to go through (to keep her own identity, to deal with the unlimited cosmic power she HAS and embodies, trying to protect her friends from herself, etc.) She's an inherently good person that has to battle such unimaginably strong forces that are contrary to her nature. She develops so much character wise, as she has to come to grips with the way that she becomes and finally IS what she most tries to not be. I...in my own weird way, identify with her. Oh, and the phoenix being a symbol of rebirth and constant renewal, I also chose it for that. And finally, the M used to be a handle (girly handle by the way of MoonJewel), when I used to play Dark Ages and Elemental Saga. And there you go, the longest screenname/handle in the WORLD - SapphirePhoenixM(oonJewel) :sweat:!!!
*Extra tidbit* - Xonpeih Srlsue, since someone thought I was foreign (because of the way it's spelled)....is simply Phoenix Rules :D.
