TNL Canadian Get Together: feasible?

Toronto 1... god, what a shitty station that is.

It just launched last month, with guns blazing in a laughingly pathetic attempt to take on Citytv. (The undisputed king of local television.)

The thing that turned me off of Toronto 1 for good was when they used sappy BACKGROUND MUSIC on the news in their report on Mel Lastman retiring.

The only thing I've ever watched on it is Tomorrow Never Dies, on launch night.

Nobody takes on Moses Znaimer and lives...

I used to love This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Red Green.

Anyways, I find that most "Air Farce"-esque shows tend to bite loudly. They rely too deeply on goofy celebrity impersonations, and bland political humour. 22 Minutes was a rare gem in that field, but it kinda went dull after Rick Mercer left.

Low-budget cable stuff like the Buzz (Fluff-E rules) and Trailer Park Boys are a hundred times better, and CBC comedies like The Newsroom, which is back for 13 new episodes this fall, Made in Canada, and Twitch City, are pure classics.

One absolutely brilliant animated series that didn't get enough appreciation last season was Odd Job Jack on Comedy. I'm so glad they renewed it for another season.

Then you have those animated series which are made up here but subsidized by Americans, like Undergrads and Clone High.

Undergrads is fuckin sweet, the two episodes i've managed to catch anyway.

Uh, as for a meet? i dunno. figure somethin out. I dont think i'd be up for a trip to Montreal though.

Decode (the production co.) is trying to do a second season of Undergrads. Teletoon desperately wants a second season, since endless reruns of the first season still bring in fairly good ratings, but after MTV dumped it (like Clone High, Downtown, and other great shows), funding dried up.

Comedy Central is supposedly picking up the first season, and might chip-in funds for a second.


Fuck MTV. They give you a taste of great stuff, then DENY. Bastards...
