What do you all think of this?

Okay this is about politics, but not all this worn-out tired so-sick-of-hearing-it-thanks-to-assclowns-like-spacecowboy-and-Almaci horse shit foreign policy/America is terrible thing.

Basically this family has been in the courts for the past decade fighting over whether they should pull the plug on this woman who is basically a vegetable. I saw a video of her, all she does is lie on her bed all day and not do anything... she's the definition of a vegetable.

So a judge ordered them to pull the plug.

So then the state legislature of Florida passes a bill that keeps her on life support, and Jeb Bush signs it into law.

Uhh... does this sound screwy to anyone else?

If you ask me this is a blatant case of the executive/legislative branch of the government VASTLY overstepping its boundaries and attempting to establish superiority over the judicial by saying "oh, we dont like this ruling so here's this"... am I wrong here, any people who passed through law school I would love to get a rundown.

And also I can say its fucking ridiculous to see the entire state legislature and the governor waste their taxpayer's money signing this legislature which affects one, ONE person.

If she lives, the family has to keep paying medical bills, right? Lots of money can be made off the living dead.

Also, I haven't followed this, but I imagine a loved one turning into a vegetable is a horrible experience for her friends and relatives. If she died at least they might feel less grief.

I was about to post about this myself. IIRC the husband, who for all intents and purposes has the legal right to do as he wishes, wants the feeding tube removed but her parents don't. He doesn't want her to "live" the way she and her parents just refuse to let go, it's sad, he makes the hardest choice he'll ever have to make and now Jeb, who is famous for cowboy tactics like this, is telling him that his rights as a spouse are nothing compared to the grand might of the government.

Personally I'm a proponent of the right to die. I think that in some cases people do have the right to self, or even third party assisted, termination. All I ask of the pro-lifers here is when is at which point is it reasonable for someone to be allowed to die?

Well I can't get my licence because I lost my birth certificate, and I can't get a new birth certificate without a medicare card, and I can't get a medicare card without a licence.

Point of story: Fucking beurocracy...

It doesn't matter if the law only affects one person, it's there to set a precident if nothing else, so if the situation arises, there is a legal guideline to base judgement on.

Personally, I think the family should have the final determination on what the future of the woman should be.

I'm not advocating murder when you don't like someone, they would know her best and as family, should have the default position of power of attorney.

Things like this seem too common sense to me, like why Attempting Suicide is illegal.

If a person wants to tap out of life, for whatever reason, why should the government or anyone have the right to stop them?

There's probably some moral reason or other. Personally, I don't think the family is in the right frame of mind to make the decision as to whether the plug gets pulled or stays. If you love someone, it's tough to look at things objectively and make the correct call. The question is, who IS qualified? Is it the state? I think the husband would be more qualified than the family. He loves her, but he knows her better than her family ever will (supposedly). He's the one who would make the decision closest to her wishes.

But that's just me. I'm sure some people believe that all life should be preserved, which is fine.

I think it's rediculous that the parents even think they have a say in the matter. She stopped being their daughter the second her and her husband were pronounced "man and wife."

This isn't to say that I agree with the situation, but it's also not to say that I disagree with it totally.

I think the issue, now, has gotten well beyond a "right to life" situation.

Effing parents. All they ever seem to do is screw things up.

Pull the fucking plug. I'll never understand why people would want to see someone they love in that kind of condition...for 13 YEARS!!! Aside from being a drain on hospital resources and taxpayer's money, it isn't a good way to honor someone by letting them remain a vegatable. Pull the plug and let people get on with their lives, so they can honor her memory in the right way.

This is a Florida constitutional matter more than a Federal one.

I mean, I suppose you could argue that her due process rights are being infringed, but this is kinda hard to determine because she's a vegetable.

In any case, I think it's horrifically cruel and inhumane for the Florida legislature and Jeb Bush to do this, and I hope they suffer politically for it.

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I'm sick and tired of people calling spacecowboy and Almaci "assclowns", etc. just because they have strong political beliefs not shared by the majority of Americans. They have legitimate beefs with American foreign policy, people. Deal with it.

I think that these pro-life zealots should also get their brains checked for lack of oxygen. There is no recoveryfor her; she is only freezing everyone's grief in time. At this stage, she is not nearly a functional human being, but instead a simple circulation of blood and food. I think the reason why political higher-ups want her to stay alive:
