My Alienware is a notebook, not a box, so building one "myself" really wasn't all that much of an option. Only as of late are notebooks more readily available with 64+ VRAM solutions on board (which I needed for games) from a larger base of manufacturers. I wouldn't buy an Alienware box.Quote:

As far as XP is concerned, you're lucky. I think the stability issue is much more of a problem with Notebooks than Desktops, but I can't speak eloquently on that issue. It seems XP loads a lot of unnecessary stuff on startup that you have to manually disable and monitor over time. Useless, uninstalled, "half installed" apps shouldn't be an issue with the OS - if you're not using it, why should the state of it matter? The OS shouldn't even notice it.
