Actually, since they're both selling for $50 USD, and because Ninja Gaiden was much more costly to produce, it's profit margin is actually lower.

It's potential profits, however, are "much, much, much, much higher." ;)

I watched the La Pucelle video preview on the latest OPM disc last night. Basically (as expected, of course), it looks just like Disgaea but with much better character art and design (the Disgaea artist is fine, but I really liked the guy that did the Rhaposdy art better). Plus, the preview stated that you can choose between the original Japanese voice acting or the new English cast. Nice touch. The preview also claimed 120 hours of gameplay.

It's about 50 hrs to win the game plus 50-100 extra to level up high enough to beat the toughest bonus boss. Everyone should keep a save spot before the second-to-last battle (before you lose Homard) because after the ending, you go back straight to the main menu without saving or an opportunity for "new game+".

You know they payed for the rights to the game, right? Probably alot more than $1000 too. It not like they got a free game for just the cost of localization.

i never played Disgaea, but am interested. Should i get Disgaea or wait for La Pucelle? Will I even be able to find Disgaea anymore? I have nowhere near the time to get both.

Well it's hard to say -- I would hold out and give LP a try and then go back if you like what you play. I can say that as SRPG fan, I voted this the hands down best game I played in 2003, no question. I logged about 110 hours on this puppy and could have done a lot more if I didn't have so many other games to play.

I think it's the story, the characters and how you see their transformations and the great humor in the cut scenes that set it apart. I mean, it's a really fun experience and the localization was spot on in my book.

As another SRG fan, I'd say skip Disgaea, and if La Pucelle is as much like it as people say, skip that one as well.

Why?

As an SRPG fan, I say ignore the advice given without any verifying reasons above and buy Disgaea, for it is deep and fun, with a great sense of humor and more customizablity than you can shake a stick at.
