Just out of interest.
I bought it a week ago and still have not watched it. I tried to, but I was in a shitty mood. I'm afraid that I wont like it. :(
Its one of the greatest shows ever. I purchased Season 1 based on Ricky Gervais when he was on Letterman. I have watched it all the way through like 6 times, and the new episodes on BBC America (Sundays at 8pm central) are just as glorious.
Just got the DVD and watched the first four episodes. Classic stuff.
Very different from typical American comedy, even the stuff Gervais claims he is influenced by (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Simpsons, Seinfeld). The best way I can describe it is as a British Spinal Tap/Waiting for Guffman-type comedy.
Gotta love it when David busts out the guitar.
The American DVD comes with a little booklet containing a company newsletter written by David Brent, an employee dossier, and a dictionary of "Slough slang" for dialogue-challenged Americans.
And apparently, the DVD has a ton of extras, like the full training video!
So padman, is the BBC running the second season of the Office right now?
Just curious.
Also, there's a US version of the show in production. After seeing how badly NBC mangled "Coupling", I shudder to think what they'll do to this show.
Some favorite moments of mine from season 1:
-The entire quiz show episode
-David fires an imaginary employee
-Tim gets shot down by Dawn in front of the entire office
-Just about anything Gareth does
The 2nd series was on TV ages ago over here and I think the DVD is nearly out. It started on BBC America in October sometime.
Favourite bit from series one is Gareth in the sidecar and the build up to it.
If you loved the first series the second is a must and just as good.
They ran this for a week straight on BBC America over the summer, and I loved it. I'd purchase it now on DVD (thanks for the heads up), but I'm short on money. It'll be on my Christmas list.
I saw some of it a while ago. I guess when BBC America had it on over summer. Hilarious stuff. I forgot about it though. Suppose I'll try and get the DVD before the year ends~
crazy. I'm watching it right now...
Just a simple question to British TV show fans: I noticed that The Office and Coupling both have less than 10 episodes per season - is this common with British TV shows? I'm wondering what the reason for this could be, and the best thing I came up with was "make 6 great episodes instead of 24 ok episodes."
Any input?
