the Arcadia magazine has revealed some new info on SNK Playmore's latest arcade fighting game The King of Fighters 2003. The game will feature a new storyline and a new hero team. Three characters are revealed: Terry Bogard, Joe Higashi and The Griffon from Garou: Mark of the Wolves, instead of the old Fatal Fury series.

For anybody that can read japanese, the KOF2003 page has been updated with the Hungry Wolves storyline. Hopefully the english site will be updated soon so we can understand what the hell it says. Anybody wanna translate?
Edit: You could use babelfish to get a loose idea of what it says. This is what I got out of that hilarious translation.
It seems that Joe and Tizoc are at a coffee shop conversing and waiting for Terry to arrive. Some kid asks and gets Tizoc's autograph. The boy gazes at a figure at the enterance of the coffee shop and then leaves the coffee shop. The figure coming through the door was Terry Bogard. Terry immediately asks Tizoc if the admiration from the boy is not enough. He proceeds to get a coffee and then sits with the group. Terry explains to the others that Andy is training a pupil (I guess Hokutomaru) and that he is unable to go to KOF this year thus The Griffon will take his place. The translation gets real fucky from there and Terry's hair is blowing in the wind. The End :lol:

And yea, 40+ fighters is generally important, I mean, what are they gonna do, cut half the teams out? I'd be pretty pissed if all of a sudden, half the teams I like are just missing. But a few characters cut out, and a few more added, and I could really love this KoF.
I can't wait to see what the AoF team looks like this year... I've heard rumors that Takuma will go so Marco R. can take his place. Actually, wasn't it Ryo that trained Marco? That would be quite a change if Ryo also didn't come back, which means Robert would probably stay out as well... a whole new AoF team!
Now that SNK has control again, I can't wait to see the other changes. The first time I've been excited for a KoF since 98!

Well, Neo-Geo games do look lacking compared to Guilty Gear X. SNK needs to move on to Atomiswave and really hype the first KOF on that system. This is also a way to brush aside the Neo cart limitations.Quote:

I don't agree with that. I don't play those games anymore because they're so outdated. Newer graphics and gameplay ideas would make a big difference in getting me to play in the first place, and then buy when released for home.Quote:

As reported earlier, while recent The King of Fighters titles have introduced original characters to the series, The King of Fighters 2003 will focus on bringing in characters from other Neo Geo titles--and the storyline of the game will reportedly go in a new direction. Other things I've heard is that Chin is now out of the game, and Chang and Choi are one character. Jhun is also rumored to be returning, as well, and the story will focus on the Psycho Soldiers team and Bao.
Plus the news SNK wants to bring in fighters from it's other games, rather than create new ones. Could this be a good idea, or just a cheap way for SNK to recycle even more?

Word on the street is sammy is excellent 2d competition as far as japan and other countries are concerned. Right under vf4 in popularity. Because Rock is still way too young. Rock was about 17 in MOTW, and that takes place in 2008, so Rock would only be 12 in this version. And this isn't a dream match, don't know where you heard that one from. KoF has a dream match rougly every three years, and the last DM was in 2002.Quote:

Im strangely excited about this version.
Christ on a stick Ash is a sweeeeet character design.... I mean, providing that that IS a female. If Ash is male, then, hmm.
I like all the impressions so far, the tag team should be interesting. I love how they keep the suspense up by releasing one illustration at a time. And yes Ash is a great design can't wait to see thhe other new characters. The backgrounds sound sweet also, hopefully there will be some cool cameos in the backgrounds.

First of all let me say that I'm a little excited, the KOF series is easily my fav games of all time.
Wow. That select screen is looking cool. But a bit like the one in 2k2. I'm really excited about the fact that Tizoc (one of my fav SNK characters, and perhaps one of the best grapplers ever next to Clark) made it into the game. And then I hear the news that they want to add in lots of characters from other games. Sounds good.
What I don't like is the cut of Angel and K9999, who in my mind, are the best characters they have come up with since they have returned to the industry. I really wish they were there.
I can't wait to see new screens.
The game is supposed to use a "Leader" system, where you pick one character as the lead, giving that character a special power?

Flames randomly come out of Shingo's attacks,
Kula, Mars People, Hotaru, Kasumi, and Kensou have been spotted in the backgrounds
Chizuru is a mid boss
Marin is Hinako's little sister, and they all have psychic powers, so that's the new psychic soldier team
The end boss is someone named RDEL.
The leader gets a special super move, only availble when that character is the leader
There are air combos now (it wasn't explained too well)
Ash is Rugal's brother...?

-Tagteam is somewhat similar to MvC
-3 life bars on top, not confirmed if life regenerate or not.
-qcf+BC is tag team change while taunting, and qcf+CD is tagteam change while attacking.
-Only allowed tagging when "CHANGE OKAY" appears
-Tag order is always 1st->2nd->3rd->1st and repeat.
-Game goes like stage 1-3, stage 4 is mid boss, stage 5-6, and final stage.
-Mid boss are Kusanagi and Adel, they have 3 hp bars together.
Char specific details:
-Ash is similar to Remy of SF3 in many ways.
-Duoron(deyuoron) has some invisible/hard to notice moves, including a move that use shadows and a move that's similar to Aoi Hana. DM is a long range smoke-like projectile.
-Shen is a boxer, only uses fist.
-Gato was redrawn, but overall plays just like MOTW version.
-Benimaru's qcbx2+B/D super has gain tremendous speed increase.
-K's new air move is a kick downwards with flames.
-Leona has been weakened; earring bomb now has some interesting properties.
-King is very strong; now her projectile splits into high hit and low hit (instead of 2 mid ones)
-Robert: Fireball can hit low; his spinning kick attack now requires input in mid-move
-Billy regained his uppercut; f+A changed
I'm well aware of Falcoon's artwork, but still... that hairstyle is a girl's hairstyle.
And Kyo with a fireball. No thanks. I liked him just the way he was.
And if you want a REAL grappler in the game, bring back Shermie. *heh.
I'm certainly interested to play the game, but SNK could have been a lot more creative with the characte roster and updating certain characters. And no Vanessa really, really sucks.

Seeing as how video game females typically have breasts as big as their head, it'd be interesting to see one completely opposite.
You know, I should be happy that I finally care more about the gameplay then the character roster after the last few KoFs...and yet, I'm still conflicted. Well, as long as this new gameplay system holds up and makes KoF fresh again, things should be well.
No Venessa or Kula, but they brought back the long neglected Chizuru (sp?) and now she has a sister or something. Got to take the bad with the good, I guess. Gameplay sounds cool, I'll likely buy the PS2 port.
Everything is looking good for the most part- but I don't know about the tag mode. At least the Leader system gives more of an incentive to use your team leader (who is the only one that can use MAX supers).
Hinako can go, IMO. I'd rather see some neglected characters such as Bob Wilson and Rody Birts. It's good to see King back, by the way.
Kensou doesn't really have any business not being in this one with its Dragon Power story. If the NESTS Cartel thing is over, then why are K', Maxima, and Whip back? I'd rather have had three other all-new or new-to-KOF characters in their places.
The more I look at Ash the more I'm reminded of Persona for some reason.
