the ring is hard to find, but confidentially, you may not want to find it. and as for the seargents quest..yeah you are breaking in, but he stole it first, after beign cured of swamp fever, the ungrateful bitch. Its really more of a repo man job. but yeah the only way i know of is just picking the lock and re-appropriating the churches property. I also dropped a silver dagger in the place of said bowel, just to warn him what happens to people who have light fingers :D dosent affect anything in the game, but i thought it was a nice touch.

I have the opportunity to pick up the original PC version of Morrowind for $5 and I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and buy that or shell out the extra $20 for the Game of the Year version that also includes two expansion packs. Basically, what I need to know is if the regular version can keep me busy for a while and is still worth playing in comparision to the recently released add-ons. Any opinions?

you will have more than enough to do without getting the expansions, and if you do end up playing the hell out of it like many of us, going back and buying the expansions won't be that big a deal, as you'll have long gotten your money's worth.

So, after reading all about this game, am I the only one who has started playing Morrowind again?

Its amazing, I've owned it since about a week after it came out, and I've played it to death, probably 3 or 4 hundred hours clocked in total, and I'm still finding shit that I've never seen before. I fear that the new instant travelling in Oblivion will ruin the whole see something once and never again magic of morrowind. For instance, I found a dead ordinator in the ashlands on my first go, and haven't been able to find it since. I just found the underground path to inside red mountain (I just flew over the ghostfence before) and a tomb full of mummies. Crazy shit.

I'm only a couple of hours into it, but I can see how people dumped hundreds of hours into the game. It's almost overwhelming. Almost.

You have no idea. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger, with more and more to do. I'm guessing you haven't even scratched the surface of the expansions yet.

Expansions? I've only just arrived in Balmora, joined a couple Guilds, and stirred up some minor trouble. I assume I'm a long, long ways off from any of the exapanded adventures. Not to mention that, having played for a bit, I can already tell that my choice of characters and skills pretty much sucked ass -- time for a new character.

The island of Solstheim and the capital city Mournhold are where they take place. You can go straight to either whenever you want, but you'll likely get your ass handed to you.

The beautiful thing about this game is that it really doesn't matter, anybody can get good at anything. It'll just be a bit tougher to go outside your class unless you find a trainer. But yeah, you're still right at the beginning, best to go back and start somebody you're perfectly happy with. You're going to be dealing with them for a long time. Though you'll probably end up going back and making new guys anyway; I must have made at least 6 or 7 characters, including a few custom classes, just to try new things out - different religions, races, non-combat classes like healers, etc. Though I kept going back to my bard character; it's such a versatile class.

I definitely have a few ideas for how I'm going to play Oblivion. though. I hope they include more political stuff for classes like agents. And some new classes in general.

Don't forget that you can change the difficulty of the game down if you need to. The silder goes to -100 or +100. Some character types (mages, especially) are horribly difficult in the early part of the game. I played as a thief/assassin (it was great being paid by the government to perform hits on people). I made sure I traveled light so I could run very, very fast when I got in over my head.

There's a difficulty slider? Wow, news to me. Coincidentally, I made up a thief/assassin much like you described. So far, I can say that picking pockets is far more difficult than it should be. Anyway, I'll put any futher posts re: Morrowind in the proper thread.
