The Official Morrowind Thread

For action, it's basically as you please. Buy some weapons and armor (if you're nice to people and run errands and perform tasks, you'll get cash and other rewards), and you can choose to walk from town to town (instead of, say, riding the Silt Strider, which is quick and safe transportation, but nets no gaining of skills) and kill all manner of creatures along the way.

You can also break into peoples houses to steal, take on entire towns if you please (just remember to get strong first, guards are well-armored), conduct raids, and so on. You can kill literally everyone (actually, I think there might be one person in the game you can't kill, if I remember the list right), so if you don't mind getting a bounty on your head (or plan on it), you can just kill a shopowner and steal stuff (careful, many of the better places have guards who don't take kindly to that).

There are bandits to kill, and areas that you can clear out. Pretty much attack what you want, so long as you're aware of the consequences (bounty and low reputation, which will affect how people treat you and the prices you'll pay at stores).

I couldn't really tell you about magic, as I haven't experimented in that at all (aside from a "turn invisible" power I have), but you can have all sorts of fun with it from what I see.

There's tons of action if you want, though creatures are placed kind of spasely (so don't expect travelling to be a slaughter-fest, but you will kill plenty), but as you get stronger, you'll be able to fight more and take on larger enemies and stronger people. It's slow at first, but patience and planning has it's rewards.

Thanks again for the info. What I really want to know is how the combat scenes work. Is the fighting (as far as firstperson stuff goes) fun? Is the fighting most swinging a sword/knife (ala Maken X) at monsters? Also, how far can your powers go?

Forgive the delayed response, I was playing even more. At least I have this since the TV is gone.

With fighting, it's basically presented as follows: You first select from your menus what weapon you want, which is placed in the weapon-ready box. Same thing goes for magic. When you want to be ready, press either the "ready weapon" or "ready spell" button, and you'll draw your weapon/hold out your hands.

When armed with handheld weapons, your swing depends on how you step. If you stand still and prepare to swing, you'll perform an overhead chop, if you're walking forward, you'll perform a thrust, if you're stepping from side-to-side you'll perform a swing. How much damage you do depends on the weapon (attributes listed in your inventory), and whether or not it has magical abilities to add to damage. If you hold down the button instead of just pressing it, you can charge up for a more powerful swing. However, early on, misses are very common against anything above your (admittedly pathetic) power level. Works the same way for third-person, you just get to see more of it.

The hit detection is very wierd to watch, as characters don't actually have to visually hit each for the hit to connect. This can make for judgeing how far to stay out of weapon distance needlessly difficult, but I've stayed away from those who seem too strong anyway so this hasn't been a big problem (however, don't bother running from those armed with spears, they've got huge reach). Also, when hit, you tend to be "pulled" into or off to the side of the person you're fighting, which makes trying to escape very difficult if they can hit at all.

Just running around killing is fun, though I personally get great satisfaction from running up to someone with a fully powered swing and dropping them to the ground. I just got my first mission from Morag Tong (think of a legal assassin's guild) and got to do just that. Fighting most creatures so far for me hasn't been too interesting, just pretty much there for experience, but people are damned fun to go up against. And more satisfying.

As for how far powers can go, do you mean magic or all attributes? If you mean magic, someone else will have to answer, as I know almost nothing on the subject (aside from being on the recieving end of some brutal "kill me in one-to-two hits" spells), and am having trouble trying to obtain basic magic (I made a custom class that rather resembles a fighter-thief, so I shouldn't have much magic anyway). As for attributes, I don't know what the ceiling is or just how good one can get. I'm only second level (very early on I am), so most of my attributes aren't too great.

Although finding the Morag Tong gave me access to a great treasure trove, though finding people to sell everything off to is a pain.

As soon as I create a new boomspeed account, I'll upload the pics I took...but I decided that I didn't like the Seyda Neen inhabitants, so I slaughtered them ALL. I of course now have a $9040 bounty on my head, which I wont be paying off anytime soon...but it was great fun! :evil:

No Xbox games support 1920x1080 resolution at this time. Almost all only support 640x480, although hopefully that will change soon.

I believe it. I've got a 1.8ghz pentium 4, 256meg DDR Ram, and a Geforce 2. Yeah the geforce2 is a lil old but it gets the job done, and it still looks nice. I've been running it fine in 1024x760 (Or whatever the 2nd one is) but as soon as I pump it past that it starts gettin shakey. Even at 1024 it the framerate drops every now and then, but at 800x600 it's more or less rock solid. Either way, fantastic game.

Plus, I figured out what the Data Files entry is on the pre-game menu. Morrowind is going to allow gamers to create all sorts of mods in the game. One such I've heard about (download it by clicking here) modifies the game so that if you get a large enough bounty placed on your head, a character that looks like Boba Fett starts tracking you down. Even better, if you kill him, you get his cool-looking armor.

God only knows what kind of "unique" creations this is going to lead to. Bethesda is onto something here. Hopefully the bugs get no worse from here on out.

Thanks again MechDeus for the input, I'm getting a clearer picture of this game, and its sounds exciting. I like how the combat seems to work, with a sidestepping attack resulting in a sweeping attack. I've never heard of anything like that before, sounds cool.

Alright, need a bit of help. I'm supposed to poison this guy's food, except that I realized once I found him that I have no poison. :sweat:

I'm guessing I can get some from an Alchemist, but after wandering Vivee a bit, I realized I can't remember where the Alchemist shop is. Can anyone confirm this or tell me where I can get poison from?

I just got to that city, so confusing.

I'm still lollygagging around in Vivic...it's a pain in the ass. I sent an apology for this ordinator who got drunk and angered a mage. I got the remedy for his ailment from the Mage, but now I cant find the Hall Of Justice again...go figure.

I'm trying to find Eno Hlaalo so I can join the assassin's guild.

Alright, I have a question! *raises hand*

Vivec is big and confusing, but a bit of poking around over the course of a few days will set it straight. Also, don't be afraid to use both the map that comes with the game as well as the in-game map, which has a button switching the view from local to world. Very, very useful.

You should be able to find an Alchemist in the Telvanni section of Vivec. It's the northeast big square compound. Bet you've firgured that out by now, though. :)

I'm also enjoying the game tremendously. The game looks phenomenal in 1600 X 1200 resolution, though I'm still disapointed buy the frame rate in towns. But its an RPG not a FPS so I'm ok with it.

I'm surprised no one here mentioned it, but you can put in your own MP3's for Morrowind! Even though the original soundtrack is excellent you pretty much notice that you hear the same ones all the time. Considering how big the game is you know it'll get repetitive kinda quickly. All ya gotta do is put some MP3's in the "Morrowind/Data Files/Music" folder and the game will play them while you play! Just put the files in either the "Explore", "Battle" and "Special" folder. Make sure that the MP3's are encoded in 128k bitrate and at 44K stereo and you are good to go! The game plays music randomly so while you play you dont really know which tune will play.

I put it tons of tunes from the Conan the Barbarian and Braveheart soundtrack, which works great since they sound perfect for RPG's.. but if Metallica and Snoop Dogg is more your kick then put them in there too! :lol:

dude, that is SO cool. id love to get my hands on some Conan music :) i do love the ingame music tho...its very good.

Bitrate doesn't matter. I've got 192 and 256 running fine.

Now to graft in the soundtracks to Radiant Silvergun and Rastan (original arcade version) and I'm good to go. :)

Out of curiosity, what kind of performance are people seeing on Morrowind with varying machines and settings?

P3-1Ghz, 256 Megs PC-133 Ram, GeForce3 Ti500, WinXP, performance crack installed. Draw-distance is far, enemy AI is default in the middle, 3D sound is set to max, 1024x768. It doesn't run Serious Sam fast, but it runs quite nicely nonetheless. Surprising, judging from what I've heard around about the game's performance. Better machines than mine are bogging down, worse machines are running decently. Like all PC games, it's a crap shoot.

As far as performance goes.. its fine most of the time. Hasnt glitched once so far.

My specs:

Epox 8K7A motherboard
AMD Athlon 1.4ghz
256 PC 2100 DDR-RAM
Gainward Geforce 3
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (sound card)

Outside of towns (which can get really choppy...well..Balmora is choppy anyways..) the game runs smoothly. The only thing that bothers me is all the one second pauses when the game loads up portions of the world. I'm using the Safedisk crack as well.

As for my game settings, I have the View Distance at max, AI at default, Shadows at max and I use 1600 X 1200 resolution. I think you should try the highest resolution possible because I saw almost no difference in frame rate with the highest resolution.

If you're talking about the pauses that occur with no explanatory loading meter, you can eliminate them by using this setting in your morrowind.ini file:

DontThreadLoad=1

This will remove the unexplained pauses, with the tradeoff that the area changes (you know, when a progress meter appears) take a bit longer.

The only two I can think of are DOA3 and Wreckless. Not because they support HUGE resolutions, but because they support the larger res for widescreen. I forget what res they run at when they are in 16X9, but it is impressive...

APC: The Morag Tong are what I'm pretty much dealing with right now. I wanted to join, and ended up finding them by accident. If you want any help, I'll gladly give.

Now, a possible glitch and another definate glitch I've found:

The Morag Tong are in a "hidden" location, inside a city very visible on the World Map. However, once you enter their hidden area, by going down a ladder, the World Map places you in the middle left side of the map in the middle of nowhere, nowhere near the town you're in. Wierd.

The other definate glitch came while bunny-hopping through one of the plazas in Vivee. There I was, leaping like mad across the floor, and I suddenly dropped through the floor! I could look up and see the level as I was falling away, and then the screen faded to black, whereupon I magically landed on the floor exactly where I should have from the jump! Really screwy...

I finally caved in and bought the PC version of this game, only to find that it ran like chunky salsa on my machine so I had to play it on a friend's. This game is very impressive and the editor it came with is even more impressive... almost too impressive for me. :sweat:

Haven't played for all that long yet, but it's been mostly great fun so far. The sheer amount of walking you have to do combined with the occasionally glitch or non-monster bug takes the experience down a bit, but overall it's everything I expected and more. And if you don't like something about the game, you can always just fire up the editor and change it.

Most memorable moment so far, my Orc fighter/mage was deep in a dungeon and doing okay until he ran into ghosts, which he couldn't hurt at all. So tried running away, but they chased me all over the place, so I ended up getting lost and going the opposite way from the exit. Luckily, I stumbled upon some expensive booty. Now the only problem was leaving the dungeon with it alive.

Ka'Sha is a lucky orc though, because his birthsign makes him invisible for a time. So even though I was hurting badly, I was still able to run out of the dungeon with my hide intact. Now, if I was smart, I would have rested and recovered right away, but Orcs aren't known for thier intellegence. Instead, I tried to run all the way home, but I was now visible again and the terodacyls had spotted me. Before I know it, I'm fighting off one after another and getting smacked around like crazy.

Now with a little life left and no magic or potions, I decide to just run like heck for it, but the monster is pecking at me the entire time, until I'm down to one tiny sliver of life. Luckily, I was on the top of a hill with a river below, so I dived for it, raced to the shore on the other side, and dashed into the town gates.

I thought my death defying adventure was over, but then I heard the blood-chilling cry of the beast who had finally caught up to me again. I was about to dash into a building for safety, when a guard comes running past me and slays the monster for me while I was cowering around the corner.

The body of the creature still lies in the street before the armorer, a momument to my harrowing adventure. :)

Well not like that. You just cant ask anybody to come along with you. Certain quest and certain situations allow a tagalong. There's this guy you break out of prison and some madman you meet out in the wilderness. There is also a plugin you can download that has a companion follow and fight with you till he dies or you tell him to go away.

Ignore that pm MechDeus. I've found the Morag Tong, but thanks anyways.

THe first official plugin was released a couple of days ago. You can find it here. The server is slow though.

He knew I was in danger since he actually raced past me in order to fight off the thing. I had another guard actually jump into a lake to fight off a fish that was attacking me. There are some benefits to playing a good character in this game. :)

When you give a guard your writ they take all you stolen goods along with it. That's weak, guess I'll just be using the thieves guild to get rid of the bounty on my head.

Check their links and their forum. You'll find plenty of mod sites that way. A lot of interesting stuff has already been released too, new races, quests, objects, game tweaks, etc.

Ha! Cool. Anymore harrowing stories?

Whats it like when you approach a guild to join them? Is there an actual hideout type place where the members of the guild are milling around? And is there a 'leader' per say of the guild?

There are leaders for every guild, but joining them doesn't nessecarily mean you must find the head person. Often times, for the more wide-spread guilds (Fighters, Mages), just find a branch and approach the main desk to ask if you can join. They all require something (like maybe a skill at a certain level), but it's usually not too hard.

Some guilds can be gotten in easier then that (if you want to trick everyone in the first town and screw over people, you can even get into a guild before you step a single foot outside the town limits just by talking to the right person and helping them), and others are harder (the Marog Tong is hidden and quite secretive, you must first find their hideout and leader before they'll allow you to try and join). Then there's the Thieves Guild, which has braches all over the towns, but none of them are out in the open (I still haven't seen any, though I haven't looked too hard either).

This game has so many cool moments its really hard to remember them all. The coolest one lately though was pretty simple. All I did was walk down this long ancient stone bridge and as the fog peeled away, it revealed the ruins of an abandoned drawven city. I just stood, or rather sat there, with my mouth hanging open. :)

Walking on water is great fun for some reason. My character has a hundred percent success rate and it only takes a little magicka to cast, so I can do it for a long while. Maybe its how amazing the water looks...

Lately, I've been playing a sort of Morrowind Vice and busting down drug dealers and other assorted bandits, including two very stupid egg thieves. It's cool how merchants won't deal with you if you're carrying drugs, so I just left them right her shelf in plain sight. :)

My orc's big problem is he can't take on magical creatures. He doesn't have any magical weapons and his destruction magic is pretty weak. So whenever I run into a scamp, I run the other way. The problem is these magical bastards will follow you everywhere, so even if you duck into a dungeon to avoid them, they'll just wait for you on the other side.

One time I was just wandering around, completely lost, and a scamp was following me around, so I water walked into the ocean to get away from him. He was pacing back and forth along the shore in frustration for a little while, so I laughed and turned my back on him. I guess this pissed him off because he decided to dive into the water anyway and was waiting for me when I got back to shore. I tricked him though by diving into the water this time and quickly circling around to another shore. After a while, I guess he got bored and went home because I ran into him again later in the game in the exact spot he first was.

One time I was sleeping in the wilderness and I was woken up by a big monster who snapped right in my face. Gave me and my character quite a shock. :)

It's nice how if you do things for people or treat them well, you start to earn their trust and they start treating you well. And on the other hand, if you treat people badly, they'll get pissed off at you. Haven't managed to provoke a non-scripted fight yet though.

There are also a lot of little touches to this game that someone just has to see for themselves, like the way the rain hits a river or the crackle of a thunderstorm, or being caught in an ash storm... and that's just the weather.

Do the NPC's have facial expressions? Like, can you see when they are frustrated or something like that by their actions?

Also, how does this sleeping thing work? Can you just sleep anywhere like you did. How long does the actualy sleeping take in game time as opposed to real time?


...damn, I can't wait to get this fucken game. I'm probably gonna step up my plans to get my new computer and just order it sometime this week.

Ordinators dont like me, so they'll spit out something like 'We're watching you....scum" Other people will be helpful, or ask if they could help. Some people ride the fence and will just say they don't have much time, make it quick. etc. Now that my finals are done.... I've got plenty of time to waste with this game. Perhaps my clever comics will return!

Anybody know what to do with slaves yet? I just purchased one for a 1000 gp and haven't got a clue what to do with her.

Anywhere outisde of towns is perfectly fine to sleep. You press a button (default "T"), and the game asks you if you'd like to sleep a certain number of hours or just until healed. Inside of towns sleeping just anywhere is illegal, so "sleep" becomes "wait", if you want to skip some time waiting for something. You can sleep in many beds, including ones that aren't yours (however, if the NPC whose bed it is is nearby, then you can't). In the first town, my first bed sleep occured when I killed a man in a hut for the heck of it (no one knew) and used his bed. :) Also, you can't sleep in dungeons with monsters around (the game tells you "There are monsters nearby!").

In terms of realtime, literally two seconds for any amount of time you want to sleep. Just press in the time, and a meter appears that goes from 0 to whatever number of hours you want. If a monster interrupts your sleep (in the wilderness), you get a "You Got Awakened!" sort of message which stops the counter at however long you did get to sleep, and usually are face-to-face to whatever creature attacked you while you were sleeping.

Not actually true. There was an NPC that I was supposed to recruit or kill, but I was pretty weak from the journey there, so I rested in his bed while he was standing right there and then tried attacking him, but he kicked my ass anyway. x_x

Didn't get to play much today. Still have to play on a friend's PC as I wait and wait for my upgrade to be completed. Should have just done it myself. Oh well.

With a fire ball spell and some luck, I can kill a scamp, but my luck was gone during that particular encounter. Another problem with my character is he's way too specialized. Basically, the only weapon he can use worth a damn is an axe. I have magic weapons with me (short sword, longbow, and another I forget) but I can't hit anything worth a damn with them.

I'll be starting another character when my new computer is finally finished though, so it doesn't really bother me much. In fact, I'm learning from my mistakes now so my second character will be all the better.

Almost forgot, I decided my most favorite thing about this game is how if you leave something someplace, it stays there. It's pretty simple, but I just find it really cool to walk into a merchant's place that I stuck a fishing pole on his desk and still finding it there when I visit them again. I want to rearrange the items on his shelf too, but I'd probably get arrested for it. :p

Heh. I just love a lot of things about the game. Like the woman whose obsessed with pillows. I want to steal every other pillow in the game and give them to her as an expression of my undying love. :p

I think the guy's bed I slept in was just such an arrogant bastard that he probably refused to acknowledge me in any way, unless I tried stealing some of his magical items, that is.

Lol...Is there such a thing as 'courtship' in Morrowind? Can you actually woo some girl (with pillows or without?). That would be hilarious!

Not in the game as it stands, but with the editor you can add this very easily. I've been considering doing just that very thing and its actually pretty simple to do. Some people have already made add-ons that work something like this.

All I have to do is script it so she's looking for pillows and I talk to her and she notices I have pillows, an option will be available to give it to her, which would improve my rating with her. Then another script that when my rating hits a certain level, she starts getting all amorous with me. Probably take me all of ten minutes to script. :p

Still playing on a friend's computer though and don't want to start any projects until I get my own back.

cool, i hope you achieve it and pass on the script once you get it down. But...isn't that messing with essential game components? Is it actually possible to alter something in such a way? I'm not totally up on programming knowledge so I wouldn't know for sure.

Nope. In fact, Morrowind was built around the concept that you can mess around as much as you want and you won't change the main game a hair. The way this works is any changes you make are saved in a plugin and not the main file, so if you don't want to use those changes anymore, all you have to do is not load that plugin. This allows you to experiment as much as you want and not have to worry about the results. Which is pretty darn cool. :)

Anything I do worth other people using I'll post somewhere. Some will be personal changes to the world that are unlikely to interest other people. Some of the changes are easy as clicking and dragging things around, while others require at least some basic programming understanding, but neither are overly complex. It might seem overwhelming at first due to the huge amount of stuff you can do.

I suppose being creative would be something cool to experiment with in Morrowind...it'd be cool if you could do stuff like steal the shopkeepers merchandise and then sell it back to him later!

I did that once...but the shopkeeper knew it was their on merchandise... He didn't think kindly of it :D

Does anyone know where I could get a copy of Daggerfall (I believe this was the prequel to Morrowind) besides ebay? I hear it is very similar to Morrowind, and it would run a lot better on my Pentium 800...only thing is all the copys I see on ebay were getting shilled to raise the price...$50 for a used 6 year old PC game....i don't think so:mad: Has anyone played Daggerfall a lot, and is it very similar?

Station, my character is a level 6 Spell Sword :D Good stuff. I just bought that robe because it looks neat, no real defensive attributes.

And Salt, I hear that Daggerfall is hard to find, which is why people charge upwards to $50. I've never played it so I can't comment on it's gameplay.

Oh my, I just found a whore house complete with dancing strippers and narcotics.

Well, I finally decided to start having my character learn Destruction spells the other day, which has added a nice element to my attacking. As you can usually strike first without the enemy seeing you until you've hit them, I enjoy starting things with a fireball and then running in with my sword. Shame my Destruction level is so low that I get ten times more "You failed to cast that spell" then I do flying fireballs. :(

My current big problem is that I need to get back to a docked ship at the west coast, as most of my stuff is back there. Found a ship loaded with Raw Ebony, which is worth 200 each piece (I grabbed sixteen, and I think there's still more back there), and gots myself some cash along with all the vampire dust I got (worth 500 apiece). The hard part about that is finding people with enough cash to pay me, I usually end up selling one piece or so at a time, rotating between all the stores.

There is something freakish going on that I don't understand: the power level of some regular humans. I'll walk up to someone who's wearing nothing but regular clothes and armed with an axe, and it'll take them two-three hits to kill me (wearing a full set of Chitan armor as well as a 10 armor hat), but I'll smack them with a fireball and seven wings of my dai-katana, and yet can't kill them! The hell?

The strip club I found was in Suran. Pretty close to the silt rider port. Funny thing is all they sell there is drugs, but they act all high and mighty if you try and sell them drugs.

The dancing girls are just too funny to watch. :)

Haven't found actual whores yet. I've found a building that seemed all set up as a whore house, but it lacked the important element of whores. -_-

First, make sure you have set the screenshot option in the .ini file to 1, if you didn't know that already. Hold down the tab key and move the mouse around to get the proper angle. Then hit print screen.

I took some snaps of my new character, but forgot 'em at home.

Was it the bandit on the bridge near Ola? Because I just tried to kill the bastard myself, which a whole bucket of magic arrows, and he just kept coming. I was getting hits to make him fall to his knees, but it still wasn't enough. I plan to fire up the editor and see what's up with him.

I also have this problem taking on some roadside bandits here and there, but the ones in caves just seem exceptionally strong considering how pathetic the appear.

For clothes, I've always walked around with a robe over armor (currently I'm wearing the robe and hat from the wizard who fell out of the sky :lol: ), but one of my roomies doesn't, and apparently kept getting to referred to as having some hideous clothes from all sorts of people while wearing a bunch of Chitan armor! :lol: I also found walking around naked gets some great reactions.

I'm on my second character now and its like a totally different game, at least almost. My first was a tough orc fighter, but now I'm playing a lithe wood elf thief, who is easily killed with close quarters fighting, but is deadly with a bow.

Working through the various Magic Guild quests while mostly ignoring the main quest. Some are pretty darn tricky with a character that usually dies from 2-3 hits. Have to keep the enemy at bay as much as possible, though backpeddling in this game is kind of tricky. Too easy to run into obstructions and get smacked.

Already made my first plugin, though it's just a simple ring of speed because I was so tired of taking forever to walk someplace. The speed is so unbalanaced in the game as it is so it's not really a cheat. All the NPCs walk at twice your speed, even if your speed attrib is 50 and you're not carrying anything. That's just silly. And running all the time reduces all your skills and magic to the point they're not even usuable.

Heck, even with the speed ring the monsters and enemies are too fast. They shouldn't be able to keep pace with me anymore, but still do. Makes hit and run tactics really hard, and not really in a fun and challenging way either.

Still, I love the game a lot and will probably play though it to at least near the end before trying any of the other plugins I have planned, mainly because the game might already have it. Surprises around every corner. Game has a couple of minor problems though. Hope all will be fixed in upcoming patch.

Nearly forgot, Morrowind is only $35 at CompUSA this week (where I bought it a little over a week ago -_-), and it's really a steal at that price. Also, people have gotten it to run on 350MHZ machines, so most people will be able to run it.

Hmm, are you remembering to maintain your weapons. One time I was doing terrible damage and the problem was the bow I just bought was in terrible shape and needed to be repaired. Once that was done, I was kicking butt (usually).

I think I know the cave you mean, though I cleaned it out with my Orc without too much trouble. There might have been a wizard who caused me to reload a save once, but otherwise they were easy. Could be a different cave though. There seems to be ones with slave pens scattered all over.

Armor doesn't seem to mean a whole lot in this game. Not as much as your level and stats anyway. Most likely the NPCs were just beefy stat-wise.

Nope, I keep all my weapons in top shape, and they get repaired at every single opportunity, no matter how low or high they might be. There was one time where I found a sword and starting using it right away, forgetting to check its condition. A few seconds later, it broke in my hands! D'oh!

I doubt that was the same cave, as there was no wizard in the one I was in. It started off with a male fighter, then female fighter, then another male fighter to the left, behind him was an armored orc (I ended beating him by luring him to falling underneath the platform he was on, and he got stuck trying to walk through the stairs and I just wailed on his back. Great AI there!), and back off to the right was a thief-looking guy armed with a short sword and a female archer. Aside from the archer, it was basically quick save, die, quickload, repeat fifteen times until he's dead, repeat for all of them. Some of the most quickloading I've done in a very long time.

How do you go about making your own plugins? Such as the increased speed plug in like Ammadeau was talking about creating? Do you have to just go inside some file and modify a line of code or increase a number somewhere? Or do you have to know programing?

The PC game comes with the developpers tool kit, go in and create anything you want. No programming skill needed, just logic.

Gotten a lot of quests done though, earned a huge pile of gold (I could buy me an estate if I wanted to), and found a whole lot of quirks in this game. Like sleeping in someone's bed. I've done this right in front of people with no problem, but once I was expelled from a great house for it! Just for taking a little nap, that's a bit harsh I think.

A bow is so much fun to use, especially since it takes practice and you actually feel skillful once you get down how to track your opponent and keep a bead on them even when running away. Wish there was a quick way to switch arrows though. I have four different types of arrows now and keep needing to pause and drag them over. Maybe if I used the quick keys...

Hide and levitation spells are a lot of fun too. Great ways to get away from enemies that can kill you with two or sometimes just one strike. Heck, all the spells are fun when you experiment with them. I want to make my own spells, but the casting costs are always more magicka than I have. Need to work on my destruction abilities too. Only 15 there, which gives me a zero percent chance with the really good spells. Of course, Mark and Recall are required spells for all characters, unless you really like walking all the time.

Dwarven ruins are my favorite places to go. With carefully laid out and unobstructed halls, they're perfect for an archer type character. My marksman skill is 59 now, which in game turns out to be hitting 2/3rds the time on average. They also have fairly decent loot, but tombs and ruins are even better for that.

Though it has some minor bugs here and there, this game is brilliant. Get it any way you can.

Nope, I've been focusing on completing quests and slowly raising my characters levels. Unfortunately, I keep getting distracted, so I'm not as high a level as I should be. And not Dermora's dead by my hand. Yet.

My character is currently in full Chitan armor, with a robe and tall wizard hat over it all. His main weapon is a Steel Daikatana (1-27 chop), with a backup of a long bow (1-30), and used to carry around a second long blade as well (a Nordic blade), but had to leave it in a crate when robbing a ship of Raw Ebony (that stuff's heavy!). I really need a better long-blade...

Once I get a better-looking robe and hat, I'll start doing some screen-shots of my kitty. :) He ain't too much to look at right now, though.

can someone do me a favor and post a list of Morrowind's reccommended running requirement specs that are on the actual game box?

Somewhere in the twenty pages of this thread I already posted the minimum and recommended requirements straight from the official site (www.elderscrolls.com). I doubt they'd be any different on the game box.

I've spent all of my free time for two days straight playing nothing but Morrowind. Too much playing to make too many comments. :)

It's really hard to just play the main quest through, because your 'boss' usually tells you to do other things between quests and it's incredibly easy to get sidetracked in this game. You're heading for one goal, then you stumble on a tomb, a ruin, a cave, etc. with enemies and lots of loot. Next thing you know, it's 3 hours later and you have to go back home because you have too many things to sell. This happens to me... most of the time. :p

There are also about a dozen factions who all have their own quests, and a lot of them too. I still haven't finished all the Magic Guild ones and I've been spending most of my time on them. There are also just random people who will ask you for help or do something for them. There's almost too much to do in this game.

I could recount some of my recent adventures, but you're better off just getting the game yourself and having your own adventures.

Right now I've just begun work on a sizable mod for the game that will turn a small town in the game to a happening place to be, just because I found a house there I wanted to make my lair. It's going to take a ton of work, but should be fun.

If you deal in weapons, pretty much hack and slash, at least early on. There is a bit of strategy depending on the weapons you choose (some can knock over opponents for extra hits), or if you choose to specialize in ranged weapons or magic, both of which can be used to simply augment your melee fighting, or you can just focus your abilities there completely.

Do you have a "home base" in the game? Or can you actually buy a home? I suppose if you're in a guild that the guild headquaters would be your home.

What website do you guys use to store pics?? Cause I would like to post a pic of my character..its not much to look at, but still ..I wanna get into the mix like Chux does with his pics.

You don't normally have a home, although you can store stuff in crates if you like. Someone has created a mod that will give you a house you can buy (or kill the seller and take), but you can also kill someone and take their house if you like.

You can buy a house. They dont come though and you be better off just making yourself a free house with the toolset.

I took over a house that already existed in the game, though no one actually lives there. It was one of the locked empty houses in Peligran. Only thing I did was add a guild guide to make it more convient to go to and from it. The house was already perfect for storing all my stuff, including a wine rack for my potions and a nice double bed for napping.

Another day of doing nothing but playing Morrowind has gone by and I smacked into my best side trek yet. I was looking for some magic item a cat girl told me about, but I kept stumbling onto bandit's hideouts (including the one Mechadeus was having problems with earlier), tombs, etc. Never did find what I was looking for so I said the hell with that and decided from now on I would focus solely on the main quest. Of course things didn't end up that way. :)

All I had to do was to find an Ashlander tribe that was already marked on the hard copy map. I knew exactly where I had to go and how to get there. I arrived in Kuul after a slitstrider taxi ride and pointed my little map arrow right at them. Then I started off, determined to let nothing stop me.

Then I saw a cave that I assumed was just another bandit hideout. Since the last one had been quick work, I decided to just pop in for a moment or two. Finding a dead scamp made me think otherwise, but it also made me curious. I pressed on to run into a wizard armed with a crossbow. She was a poor shot though and no match for my bow skills, though she dodged about half of my shots the way I dodged her occasional magic spell. The scamp that followed surrendered quickly to a barrage of silver arrows.

Now I had a crossbow to play with and two doors to choose from. Behind door number 2 was a very pissed off sorceress who killed me with repeated poison spells. Good thing I quicksave ever five seconds or so. Using the nearby stairs as an obstruction, I forced her to waste her magic and when she came at me with a knife, I carved her up like an apple.

In her room she had obviously been researching something. I took whatever valuables I could find, but then discovered her notes and also what lay beyond door number 1. A Daedric ruin that sounded impressively loot worthy. I found ruins before, but they were always guarded by some very tough customers. And I was looking for some raw ebony for a quest anyway. No harm in checking it out.

The route to the ruin was mostly underwater, but that was no problem at all with Vivec's kiss, though I was worried about attack fish since they always gave me problems. No fish were to be found though. That should have tipped me off that this wasn't going to be quite as easy as I thought.

Eventually I reached the ruin and emerged from the water with its battered remains all around me. There was an archway and beyond that a door which had to contain the loot I sought. The only problem is standing in the way of my treasure hunt was two Deadra Lords.

Kei is a sneak by nature, so with a hide spell in place, I figured I would just walk up to the door, click on it and it would load a new map, avoiding the menacing demons alltogether. Of course, when I reached the door, it was both trapped and locked. And of course this was when Hide spell wore off and the two lords killed me in about 3 seconds. Quick load to the rescue.

Now I knew I was way out of my league. Just one of their spells was enough to snuff my poor Kei like a candle. But damn, if two lords are guarding the place, I knew there had to be some kind of ulta special tasty loot within and I just couldn't resist. I would have to find a way to put them down.

It took a number of tries to get it all figured out, but I eventually stumbled on a method that worked. First, I used the corner trick to get them to exhaust their magic. Though unlike the sorceress before, I knew from experience that their melee attacks were a lot better than mine. What I discovered though was they were powerful but stupid. If I waded out into the water behind me, they would run along the shore trying and failing to reach me. This made them perfect arrow bait, though it cost me quite a few silver arrows to put them down.

With the door untrapped and unlocked, I thought all was left to do was collect my reward. Only when I opened the door there was a creature on the other side that I had never seen before. It rushed out at me with a cry and sliced me to pieces with its glass sword. Reload time again. Whatever it was, it fell for the same trick as the two lords and that's when I discovered I had just killed a Golden Saint. Thanks for the kick ass glass shield, shiny!

And then I beheld the loot, gleaming in the darkness. Daedric, ebony, and all sorts of high price goodness that would set me up for the life of the game. The only problem is the stuff is heavier than anything and I couldn't carry even have the goodies. With the use of Mark and a Divine Intervention amulet I carried for emergencies , I was able to steal to my heart's content. Took three trips though.

I did actually get back on track soon after this, arriving at the tents of people who hated my guts. I had to win them over so I asked about gifts and they pretty much said 'bribe me.' Being the newfound millionaress that I was, I slapped that bitch with a thousand gold. Now she's my best friend. It's always nice to make new friends. :)

And that was only part of one day. That's how good this game is.
