much questions in this post!!!
Well, I'm just about to start a new character and play the game seriously (I was just wanting to jump in with my first character). One of the things I noticed was my near automatic inclination to play the game like a standard RPG (you know, "oh Balmora - okay, the game wil progress when I go there!")....HOWEVER, I know all too well that this is no normal RPG.
So my question is this: What did you guys do the first time you started playing, did you try and follow the quest and eventually decided to do something else? Or did you just do whatever you wanted to do and ignored the main quest right off the bat.
I figure I'll go for the former - I think I need to take that transportation animal thing to Balmora because I'm pretty much too weak and too poor to go walking about in those goddamn creepy woods!
And another thing I've noticed - this game really freaks you out. When I was checking out the outskirts of the town in those woods areas, I was constantly flipping around to make sure I was not being followed or anything like that - especially at nighttime - but daytime is a bit like that as well.

My first two characters played it straight at least in the beginning, at least far enough to meet the guy in Belmora, but my new character Sauron just totally ignored the main quest and has been building up a reputation in various factions instead. It is sort of strange to play a game that doesn't force you to follow the main plotline, especially one where you can play for weeks and never even start on it, but that's part of the fun.
And I agree with Stibbons, the tombs are damn spooky. I found the sewers, shrines, and drawven ruins spooky at times too. I think it's a testament to how much this game is able to draw you in.
Only played a little today. Made a sword called Mr Frosty that does 50 points of frost damage, which I thought would be too cheap until I ran into a place filled with enemies with perfect magic resistance. Surprisingly hard fight for my 40 level character, but I got a full set of glass armor out of the deal. Not really great protection wise, but it looks really cool. :)

So, if this armour is made out of glass, as you alledge, then can you see your character's frank and beans? Assuming you play a male. And if you play a fenale, can you see her jubblies? :p

The armor is made of an opaque green glass, so you can't see through it. Even so, my character (who is female BTW) wears clothes under her armor, and even a skirt over the lower portion, you you'll have to get your kicks someplace else. :p
All the reports of the Xbox version have been great so far. I wouldn't mind some reduced graphics so kind of makes me wish I waited and saved a little money. Oh well.
