Anyone ever make a LiveJournal a true journal?

So I've been contemplating making a LiveJournal for the past few days (actually for quite a while now), and I really like the idea. However, the one part about the whole online journaling thing is that they aren't true journals. Nobody names names, nobody speaks out, nobody gives their true opinion, and in my opinion that’s key to a journal. All they do is spew crap about how their day went and how much they hate stupid crap that doesn't really matter. No so and so is being a bitch, or so and so has given me yet another reason why I hate girls, etc.

So, I'm wondering, has anyone here actually started an online journal that their friends could see and such and actually make it like a real journal? I am just worried that everyone would just end up hating me, but even that isn't that bad of a deal because all my true friends are back home anyway :)

So discuss. Maybe my idea is retarded.

i just keep a word document that i use as a journal, i dont really fancy the idea of a live journal to be honest.

Have a LiveJournal if you want people like Bahn looking at all the dumb stuff you do during the day. :p

If it's a journal you want then keep a book or something. If you want people to read it, then use the LiveJournal.

Having a journal on line is not that big a deal. And if it becomes a big deal just get rid of it .

I actually did at one point, don't really need to anymore. But yeah, no one knew about it and the entries were private, just a place to collect some thoughts for myself.

It was very therapuetic and personally I reccomend it.

You can set it so only friends can see certain entries.

Just putting all your personal shit on the internet is, to put it bluntly, kinda stupid. Might as well go on Springer with that shit.

They have live journal communities which are the more "journal" thing your looking for.

I run one catering to violent manga/anime and anything else that does something different than tired ass anime/manga cliche's. With NO hentai or Yaoi...like most of the other anime/manga communities turn into.

a friend of mine has a live journal account. he puts up some stuff there that i would never put up just because it's a kind of a public thing for anyone and everyone to read through, but i don't think he's ever had any real problems with it.

Mine was in the early days.

I didn't privatize or make anything friends only.

But honestly it starts to cause a lot of problems with your friends when you start naming people who may or may not have done shit, and point fingers in anger. If your smart you don't have anyone on your friends list who you know in real life, or you keep a seperate one that they dont' know about and you only allow people you meet online to see it.

I said something about someone in one that I was certainly justified in saying. As a result, he got angry, and he wanted to fight. I didn't want to fight him. The next time I saw him was in a Barnes and Noble, where he proceeded to hit me in the face. Still didn't want to fight, but it pissed me off. Yeah, some people can't handle anything unfavorable being said about them, and thus, friends only is a good idea.

Sometimes you need to write something down or vent about something and you wouldn't mind if some people see it, but not everybody. That's what friends only is for. Some things need to be said, to some people, but not to the whole world.

I'm going to start posting the stupidest thing I hear each day in my LJ. I think it's a creative use for it.

well, okay, maybe i put that wrong. Cause see, with me, I mean.......it would be vaguely stupid to write my personal feelings online about everything and everyone...after I know that I have all kinds of random kiddies from who knows where posting whatever on my journal. If I want to vent, I definately don't do it on LJ, unless its about a video game or something.

Sure, if i wanted to write everytime my boyfriend and I got in a fight, or everytime I was bored, or everytime I bought a new shirt (oh wait.....doh)
well, it would be a pretty boring, angsty journal.
So I write whatever I feel like, not quite fact, not quite fiction! wooo~

I guess I'm going to put it this way-
If your real life friends read your LJ, and theres stuff about them in it, I can understand friends only. But if your LJ is basically meant for people you know on the interweb, then it is really stupid to update them with what is happening in your real life...and then get pissed when people post dumb things and make it friends only.

Actually, i have that a lot with some furries I troll, these kids think it's just a gas to post every little detail about their menial lives, then I go stir em up for a few days, and bingo, friends only. Isn't that kinda lame? Especially when my posts are as lame as "hahahaha, you're a furry and you're ugly." I don't even try, and these kids still flip out and are like OMG TROLL!

bottom line- The internet is not something that should be taken personally. LJ is the internet. Don't take LJs personally.

I got introduced years ago to lj by a guy I used to hang out with. Such drama. originally I had a public one and a private one, but I scratched the public one... now a days when i do update I really dont give a fuck what I say.

I do like telling people about my lj (parents, random assholes) and having it friends only. ahhh the power! i like controlling who reads it. like for instance, I'm about to take a couple people off my list right now. mostly cus thier jerks.

I used to send messages to people, ex friends ex bf's that were "Hey, You! *insert name here*! You bastard! how could you do that..." etc

i hate lj tests, but I am very guilty of posting them too.

I don't know... if there's been a topic I really wanted to talk about, I've always spoke my mind about it without really holding back. I haven't always used real names, but typically that was because I didn't know the people well enough, and they wouldn't be reading anyhow so there really was no point to use a real name.

I've also never been one to agree with hiding behind the "Friends only" tag. The only time I've ever posted that way was when I was posting up photos of friends.

I think if you're going to have a LJ, be honest on it, and say what needs to be say. If you have one and then water it down, or worry about the controversy that it might cause, you shouldn't be making one in the first place.

It seems like every other blog ring I looked at last night had AzNpRiDE!!!!!! in the title.

That otakukin page was funny/freaky. I post a few things on my sexykula webpage, but it's mostly not of interest to anyone unless they are a part of my family/friends.

I know a few people that use LJ's, and it seems like they put every thought that comes into their mind down on it. Like.."It's 4:30 pm and I'm bored, think I'll go home..." What's the point in that? Who actually wants to even read that? I can see if you want to put down a little story, or something that seems interesting to you, but things like that are interesting to no one. I promise.

Pretty much. I have a Xanga and a Livejournal, I left the LJ because all my friends were on Xanga.

I have a lot of Asian friends.

A lot of the people who post on Xanga are truly braindead.

You know, reading over that "Otherkin" community, I come away with this thought.

You want to say that you aren't a human, and that actually you're an elf, a vampire, a werewolf, a demon, an anthropormorphic tiger, a stuffed cat, a robot from the planet Zordon, whatever, hey, great, good for you.

Just prove it to me. None of this "well I must be an elf because I love to be in the woods and wear green and prance around" or other BS like that. Grow some damn elf ears, grab a longbow, and go bag yourself a troll. At that point, I'll be more than happy to start calling you an elf.

Edit: Plus, why are people always the CUTE or COOL things? Why is it always, "yeah, I'm really a silver dragon" or "I'm actually half cat" or shit like that? You never hear, "Yeah, I'm stuck in this human body, but at heart I'm actually a 300 pound anamorphic pig" or "In my previous live, I was a dung beetle, and I really wish I could be one again."

I was thinking about getting an LJ, until I read about that whole needing a code thing. My Xanga journal does the job quite nicely for my weekly two-line updates.

Well at one point i started doing that, It was cool for me, but you voice your opinions online to the public and probably the people you dont want to hear them it creates a problem. You see, when you have negitive thoughts or some shit towards someone, and decide to post that, when they see it it just causes more problems.. ite better to keep that in you head and to yourself, rather then putting it up on the web..
Its a cool idea, but i'm pretty sure you would have to put only positive things on it of your going to name names.. or else you could easy lose friends.

I mainly use mine to talk to friends when we're not around, tell them whats going on with me (80% of my friends live outside of this town...at always 40 minutes away) and so forth. I could care less who reads it though. Plus now theres phone posts! Those rock!

I would get one, but that would require some bit of effort on my part, and why would I do that? Besides who wants to read "got up, went to school, came home, slept, got up, did homeworked/surfed the net untill ungoldy hours and did not do my homework, every day? Anything intersting I have to say would end freindships, as the drama in my life is usally someone else fault.

But I do read the LJ of board members. Even though most people don't realize it, people tend to act different on their LJ than they do in chat or on boards. Like someone may be a complete troll here, but you can read about how they are in real life on their LJ. It helps get a better idea of who people are.

Sadl I've read so many, that some people here blur wiht other people so I can get facts confused. It makes for some weird misunderstandings

i have one, but i made it just to register my name. although im considering using it (and making it private) just so i can have a log of my dreams. i have shitty penmenship, and my hard drive is about to crash, so having it online would work out quite well i think.

Hmm.... *thinks a LOT*... before I wasted time on the TNL boards, I wasted time in the PlanetGameCube chatroom. I knew one of the guys from a LONG time ago on Undernet, back during the N64hq.com days. So when he started working on PGC I chatted there. I eventually stop going because people got tired of my "trolling". As if.

Probably cause of all the flack mp3 files seem to be taking these days.

Does I-Tunes support Ogg Vorbis? I was pretty surprised when good old WinAmp jumped out at me. I forgot I even had it.

Winamp is the only "commercial" software that supports Ogg, and only in Winamp 3 or Winamp 5.

It's mostly loved by Slashdot nerds frothing at the mouth for open source software.
