It's an old story, buy my friend just dug it up, and it really gave me a lot to think about on a number of levels. (Not to mention the fact that the story is far more interesting than a lot of the stuff that Hollywood has cranked out lately.) Yes, it is a bit long - stick with it, trust me.

Yeah, took me a few minutes to figure out what the hell that noise was. I kept looking around, and checking to see what other program on my TiBook it would be causing that noise. (I had scrolled down enough that I never got a good look at the banner.)Quote:

While reading this, I kept thinking of Clive Barker's urban myth story (I think it was called "The Madonna") that was made into the film Candyman.
I knew a law school professor who was sort of an expert on La Llorona, a very interesting Mexican myth.

Did no one else use to do this? When I was in second or third grade in '79 or '80 we used to go in the school restroom and turn off the lights and try to conjure Bloody Mary up in the mirror. Yep, she killed her kid and vowed to kill all children. So it was a dare to try to summon her. I lived. We even used to say that 'if she sees your face, she'll know you forever and she'll keep coming after you until she gets you' thing. The thing was you were supposed to try to see her and not get killed, by turning the light on before she got you, if I remember correctly.Quote:
