The idea of the Bahamut being the final dungeon was really kind of exciting, lots of possibilities, multiple bosses, secret weapons etc. But it's only 5-10 minutes long! Lots of wasted potential there.

I didn't realize I was in the "final" dungeon until I was already almost done with it (I just thought it was a really long, boring dungeon). I seriously thought I was only halfway through the game or something, not a few fights away from finishing. That was a shock; everyone went on about how long the game was.
After I finished the dungeon, I checked online to see what more I could do. Pointlessly do all the optional stuff (since it's not like there's a better ending for doing it, and you'd just be overpowered as hell for the actual battle), or just finish it right there knowing there was a bunch left in the game I'd be missing.
So I just quit and sold it. My opinion remains untarnished, and sweet, sweet Fran will live on in my memories forever. At this point, Fran was 50 and the others (except Vann) somewhere in they're 40s. I'd never lost a boss battle, but almost all of them where pretty tough, which I thought was the perfect balance. I never got some of the final spells (Hasteaga, etc) and just store-bought and Bazaar equipment. My brother thinks I'm crazy to not just finish it, but I had the feeling I should just quit while I was ahead before the game annoyed me.
I don't particularly feel compelled to get all the secret stuff either, and getting a bunch of loot from rarely spawned monsters to get the best weapons at the bazaar just seems annoying as hell. Chances are, I'll do all the hunts, but as for Ultima or that other hidden boss, I might just not bother.
Wow. You think this way even after FFX?
I'm just throwing this out there due to major curiosity, but who here is playing under Wait and those with Active? I think it'd be interesting to see who is taking the extra risk and who isn't.
But I did Wait on my first two plays in Japanese last Spring and an Active for the English version.
I started the game on Active, and about 20 hours in, I think at the Stilshrine of Miriam, I switched to Wait. I was still not totally familiar with the game, I couldn't decide if I wanted the menu interface at reset or memory, and basically I was tired of getting my ass pounded when I went to cast cura.
I haven't changed it since, I personally believe it helps you add that little bit of strategy when the rest of the game plays out like an MMO.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about.
Some gay shit.
Definitely Wait.
