Final Fantasy XII Official Thread

No, the gil buttrape never ends. I never even got any of the black magicks above fire/thunder/blizzard because I was too busy screaming over needing armor. I'm at the final stretch of the game and I'm still going crazy over want of money. I have my armor at best readily available, same for weapons (largely) and all I really have left is to collect the hoards of magick I passed up throughout the game. I'm not going to mess with firaga et all because I don't use attack magic other than Holy (maybe Flare) so it's a waste to me, but I need the Dispelga, Hastega and company.

I just got the last grimoire open, it's a big magic pot thing that applies to all classes of monsters and makes them drop the Arcana substance which can be used for the awesome and repeatable bazaar goods) but it's 250,000 gil. I... don't think I'll ever be purchasing that one.

I barely buy equipments from shops. Forget trying to buy every good item there. It's not essential in going far in the game. I usually steal stuff from every enemy I see. By then, once I sell all that loot in the bazaar, I tend to get some really good equipment that's better (or the same) as what can be found at the shop for a lesser price. Just work on getting the Grimores beforehand, they will help tremendously in getting the stuff you want to buy there.

Only times I found a use for the accessory was for farming gil items. Kept me from overleveling and making the next dungeon/boss etc. ridiculously easy. Could also come in handy in keeping a prime numbered level against certain enemies that can use Lvl. 3 Disable and what not.

Wrong. One of the awesome things about FFXII is how that isn't true. The ONLY armor/weapons that are one-time only is the set of Genji armor. Everything else can be obtained in an alternate method of purchase in the bazaar or will show up in a second hidden location if you fail the requirements for the first.

Oh, so you sell Arcana? I'll have to pawn the 3 pieces I have.

I've been super OCD/Anal Retentive and just spent easily 12+ hours farming in the tomb. Other than that top armor set, I have the best and available everything except Techniks which I've ignored. The AOE elemental spells gambited + Haste gambited + -30% spell cost + elemental staff = awesome for your average battle.

Probably going to tele back over to the shrine and milk that for a few runs. :\

I've read the FAQs on the Zodiac Spear. It's either obtainable through the 'do not open chests' method, or a dig in the Henne Mines dig game which is supposedly bullshit and can possibly waste a lot of your time (or not). It 100% does not appear for purchase in the bazaar or otherwise. The Genji equipment, yeah, you steal from that hardass during a Hunt a few times, so I'm told. I haven't attempted it since someone said he'll kick my ass at my sub-50 levels.

It's not like the rare equipment is by any means necessary to finish the game with ease. I'm not even on the best stuff available and I absolutely trashed everything in the Pharos.

Right. Which means it's not obtainable just through the first method and is not a one-time-only occurance.

Hence the second part of what I said.

I'm not saying it's easy to get a lot of that stuff or even worth the time and effort but what you said there was only one way to get that item (which isn't true) and that there are a lot of one-time-only items (which isn't true). Granted, the way they mess with you by layering treasure on top of Excalibur meant I almost missed it even when it spawned, but even if I had it still would've respawned there eventually. And really, none of that is on par with something like getting Steiner's ultimate weapon, which is a bunch of bullshit.

I never played FFIX, so I wouldn't know. And the digging mini-game sounded like bullshit and a total afterthought as how to get the Zodiac Spear, I don't consider it the intended method (but yeah, it isn't a strict one-time-only thing in that sense).

Theres a digging mini-game in the Henne Mines...? Thought the 2nd location for the Zodiac Spear was a rare chest in there.

Recorded all of the esper limit breaks if anyone is interested. You can grab the rar here.

If anyone was interested in the damage, it ranged from shitty (112-3000) to 9999 (the damage cap for most attacks) which really sucks because the espers that do 9999 are the ones who take your whole MP bar. Rank 2 espers fell somewhere inbetween. The only one worth using out of all of them is Zodiark, who isn't limited by the 9999 cap, doing 50,000 for one persons full MP bar. Triggering him to do his limit break is also very easy (cast Petrify on yourself) as opposed to others who either need you or the esper to be in critical HP, summon time almost depleted, etc.
