Well recently I've been on a kick of strategy games, and I wanted something different than AW/FFT. So I downloaded the Civ 3 demo out on a whim and it's pretty enjoyable. Although it's very complicated compared to the SRPG's I'm used to.
Any links/websites that could provide with general tips on how to get started?

But yeah, I can tell already that this is a quality game. Look at the size of the tech tree, for god's sake!
Civilization II is the best one.

That's just not the case. I was hooked on Civilization II like Rush Limbaugh on OxyCoton. I just could not get into Civ 3 like I did Civ 2. I may try again soon but it was just not the same. Something about it didn't gel properly. It's still a great game but for pure form and essence Civilization II is simply unmatched.Quote:

I didn't like the stupid "colorful" and cartoonish graphics and that is pretty much why I didn't like the game. It made moving over the map seem ten times more tedious, now if Civ III improvements were given to the CivII engine I would be happy...
Bah! I haven't touched Civ 2 since I picked up Civ 3 and I don't play on doing it anytime soon. Sure I could nitpick and find a couple of things 2 did better but the improvements to the actual gameplay more than make up for any cosmetic change. I didn't have any problem with, I honestly don't see the "cartoonish" vibe you're talking about.
Btw, anyone else have the play the world expansion? I haven't been able to connect to a game for some reason.
What I'm basically saying is that the graphics just completely turn me off. When I move across the world map I never feel like I'm making any progress just because of the way everything looks. The old style was much simpler and appropiate for the genre.
