I'll go online with XB if the XBLive service is cheap enough.
While I enjoy online games, for the most part I would much rather have the latest crop of online games to be OFFLINE.
PSO is cool (and I can't wait for the GC version), but I can't help but think that a new single player PS would've been more enjoyable for me.
FF11 is the same deal. While the online game might be good, I would be just as happy (more so actually) with a new OFFLINE FF.
These are just a couple of examples, I guess ideally my favorite type of online games are playable both single player/offline, and online.
A perfect example would be Diablo II. You can play it either offline or online, and you for the most part can get the same amount of enjoyment out of it. The online aspect is just one facet of the game, but the experience isn't dependent upon being online.
*gets off soap-box*
Just a little rant *phew*, I think I feel better now... :)
I will definetly go online. I got a cable BB service just for them. Now I just have to wait till some systems go online. I'll play some PC games for now. I LOVE online gaming. Thanks to the Dreamcast anyways. I think I liked every online DC game they made.
I REALLY want the Xbox to go online soon. The voice chat thing is awesome. Alien Front used voice chat pretty well with 56k. So I cant wait to see how it runs with BB.
Sony's SOCOM sounds great too. I can't wait to get my hands on that.
All in all I'm really excited for online gameing. And no, it wont kill the 1 player games. Theres room in gaming for on and off line games.
The future for gaming is bright.
Personally I love online games, but only on consoles. So Ive been waiting for awhile for some of these other companies to get something done with their plans since Seganet fell through.
xbox so far sounds like it has things moving in the right direction with voice chat and the ability to find and chat with people on other games is a key feature. But no 56k will leave some people out in the dark.
as for games, the game that absolutely NEEDS to be online is Super Monkey Ball.
I'm currently enjoying Alien Front Online, and Daytona USA, as they are still free online games.
I look forward to PSO in the Cube, with the 56K modem. I enjoyed PSO on the DC and have Version 2, but never took advantage on playing onlie with it. Maybe the Cube version will change that.
I'm also interested in seeing what the PS2 has in store. I'm looking forward to some of the Dial Up games, as Broadband is still too expensive.
There is a feature in the June 2002 EGM on this, it also speaks about the first Playstation 2 online game, SOCOM:U.S. Navy Seals.
I for one don't see Online Games as the future of games, not till every house has BB, or has the ability to get it. I can't get BB, or DSL where I live. Its the future of Multiplayer games yes, but thats only a part of video games. I think to many companys are trying to jump into this market, and I think they might be a little burned by it. Especialy Square, America is not ready for a strictly online FF game if you ask me. I have a lot of freinds who LOVE FF and think FF11 being Online this soon is Squares worst idea since The Spirits Within.
Every game that is multiplayer should be online. I should NOT have to get a friend over to my house in order to be able to enjoy a multiplayer game.
Simple as that.
I want to play Capcom vs SNK 2 online like they do in japan
